Academy of Management Annals

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 1941-6520 | eISSN: 1941-6067Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

The mission of the Academy of Management Annals is to provide periodic, comprehensive examinations of recent advances in multiple management fields. Each yearly volume features critical reviews of the research, written by leading management scholars. Through these systematic analyses, the Annals summarize previously established studies and concepts, pinpoint potential problems (such as factual errors), and inspire new discussions and directions for further research activity.Suggestions for topics and authors are welcomed. They should be sent to the Senior Editor: Royston Greenwood at royston.greenwood@ualberta.ca .The Academy of Management is proud to announce the fifth volume of The Academy of Management Annals . This exciting series follows one guiding principle: the advancement of knowledge is possible only by conducting a thorough examination of what is known and unknown in a given field. Such assessments can be accomplished through comprehensive, critical reviews of the literature—crafted by informed scholars who determine both when a line of inquiry has gone astray, and how to steer the research back onto the proper path. The Academy of Management Annals provide just such essential reviews. Written by leading management scholars, the reviews are invaluable for ensuring the timeliness of advanced courses, for designing new investigative approaches, and for identifying faulty methodological or conceptual assumptions. The Academy of Management Annals strive each year to synthesize a vast array of primary research, recognizing past principal contributions while illuminating potential future avenues of inquiry.Academic scholars in management and allied fields (e.g., sociology of organizations and organizational psychology) will see The Academy of Management Annals as a valuable resource to turn to for comprehensive, up-to-date information—published in a single volume every year by the preeminent association for management research.Volume 5 of The Academy of Management Annals continues to review research literature across a variety of areas incorporating: technological innovation; negotiation and gender inequality; staffing practices; person-environment fit; turnover and retention research; organizational competition and cooperation; work-family initiatives; power and status in social hierarchies; behavioural decision research; systematic research synthesis in management; entrepreneurship and ethical decision making.'It’s an exceptional volume—and exceptionally timely to boot. I found myself trying to put this new Annals in perspective. I tried, in particular, to cast a rather hard and critical light on this volume: Just how essential is it for the time-starved and besieged scholar to have yet another thing to keep up with? Do we really need, in short, yet another annual volume? The answer I gave myself to this question was a resounding, ‘‘Yes!’’'Review in International Public Management Journal (2008)DisclaimerTaylor & Francis makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the “Content”) contained in its publications. Acta Biomaterialia Odontologica Scandinavica is a new Open Access, online only journal. The journal provides rapid publication of high-quality dental research in the areas of oral biomaterials science. The editorial policy of Acta Biomaterialia Odontologica Scandinavica ’s is to welcome international submissions from researchers throughout the world. The scope of the journal includes basic and clinical aspects of oral biomaterials science in dentistry.

Original research papers, review articles and short communications, will be considered for publication. In general, analytical studies are preferred to descriptive studies. Articles reporting novel research showing cause and effect relationships for experimental studies and explanatory / associative relationships for those of an observational nature are favored. Hypothesis driven research is encouraged since simple descriptive reports tend to have relatively low scientific priority for publication.

Short communications should not be longer than two pages, and should contain new and important information. Short communications should follow the usual division into Material and Methods, Results and Discussion. Case Reports will not be published.
By making Acta Biomaterialia Odontologica Scandinavica an open access journal, our ambition is to suit the needs of both the academic community and as well practitioners by offering an open space for all to share experiences and ideas.

Acta Linguistica Hafniensia: International Journal of Linguistics

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 0374-0463Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

Acta Linguistica Hafniensia evolved as the voice of the Linguistic Circle of Copenhagen. Our aim today is both to carry forward that tradition, emphasizing areas such as functional linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and sociolinguistics, but also phonology and formal linguistics, in all of which vigorous research is being carried out by Danish linguists, while at the same time expanding the international scope of the journal as a broad journal of General Linguistics. One of the ways in which we seek to pursue this dual aim is to alternate regular issues of the journal with thematic issues based on workshops organized by the Linguistic Circle in which articles by both Danish and international participants are presented on related subjects.

Action Learning: Research and Practice

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 1476-7333 | eISSN: 1476-7341Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

Action Learning : Research & Practice will publish articles which advance knowledge and assist the development of practice through the processes of action learning. Articles should aim to create theory, grounded in empirical observation of data and experience, that widens understanding of action learning and research in professional and organisational settings. Papers should encourage practitioners to gain new insights into their work and help them improve their effectiveness and contribution to their clients and the wider community. Action learning is grounded in the approach pioneered by Reg Revans which holds that there can be no learning without action and no knowing without the effort to practise and implement what is claimed as knowledge. Because action learning promotes the creative integration of thinking & doing, theory & practice, academic & practitioner, contributors are asked to strive to hold these often diverse perspectives together. An important question in assessing papers will be: “Is this likely to help people in the further development of their practice in working with people, organisations and communities?” Articles which cross the conventional boundaries of professions, organisations and communities are particularly welcome. The editors will also welcome responses from readers to all these contributions, and publish alternative views in the spirit of debate and discussion.

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 2162-3945 | eISSN: 2162-397XSubject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView author guidelines

Aims & Scope: Adipocyte recognizes that the adipose tissue is the largest endocrine organ in the body, and explores the link between dysfunctional adipose tissue and the growing number of chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Historically, the primary function of the adipose tissue was limited to energy storage and thermoregulation. However, a plethora of research over the past 3 decades has recognized the dynamic role of the adipose tissue and its contribution to a variety of physiological processes including reproduction, angiogenesis, apoptosis, inflammation, blood pressure, coagulation, fibrinolysis, immunity and general metabolic homeostasis. The field of Adipose Tissue research has grown tremendously, and Adipocyte is the first international peer-reviewed journal of its kind providing a multi-disciplinary forum for research focusing exclusively on all aspects of adipose tissue physiology and pathophysiology. Adipocyte accepts high-profile submissions in basic, translational and clinical research.
Adipocyte focuses on the following topics:
• Adipose tissue structure and development
• Adipogenesis, adipose stem cells
• Adipose inflammation, immune cells
• Insulin resistance and diabetes
• Metabolism and energy balance
• Mitochondrial dysfunction
• Adipose hypoxia, apoptosis
• Adipokines
• Angiogenesis
• Cardiovascular disease and vascular homeostasis
• Hypertension
• Lipids, fatty acids
• Brown/beige fat
• Reproduction
• Obesity and cancer
• Pharmacology
Currently, we publish quarterly, increasing the frequency in increments to 12 issues over several years. Each issue appears in print and online. Submissions and peer-review are rapid and handled online. We encourage direct submission of manuscripts rejected elsewhere with reviewer's comments included for quick assessment and potential rapid acceptance. Authors may submit to the journal online at http://adipocyte.msubmit.net/cgi-bin/main.plex

Adoption Quarterly

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 1092-6755Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

Adoption Quarterly is an unparalleled forum for examining the issues of child care, of adoption as viewed from a lifespan perspective, and of the psychological and social meanings of the word "family." This international, multidisciplinary journal features conceptual and empirical work, commentaries, and book reviews from the fields of the social sciences, humanities, biological sciences, law, and social policy. In addition to examining ethical, biological, financial, social and psychological adoption issues, Adoption Quarterly addresses continuity in adoption issues that are important to both practitioners and researchers, such as: negotiation of birth and adoptive family contact; identity formation in the context of adoption; adoption as a premier paradigm for studying the interactions of nature, nurture, and the lifelong development of the adoptee; adoptee adjustment (now viewed in a life-span perspective); adjustment issues for birth and adoptive parents. Despite the importance of adoption in family formation and its considerable value as a paradigm for scientific study, there is no other scholarly journal specializing in this field. By maintaining a consistently high standard of scholarship, Adoption Quarterly helps stimulate relevant research and develop more practice-based and empirically sound principles. Publication office: Taylor & Francis, Inc., 325 Chestnut Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Advanced Device Materials

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 2055-0308 | eISSN: 2055-0316Visit Publisher homepageView author guidelines

Advanced Device Materials focuses on materials and/or metamaterials for applications in photonics, communications, micro- and nanoelectronics, imaging, sensing and acoustics. A particular focus is the formation or integration of these materials into functional and multifunctional structures and devices with enhanced and unusual properties. New materials, (nano)structures, microarrays and components can be designed and fabricated to create discrete electronic/photonic components that are integrated into circuits. An important aspect of these applications is based on the confinement and manipulation of light using advanced materials, for example, giving rise to sub-wavelength phenomena that can be integrated into next-generation devices such as bio- and other sensors. Artificially structured electromagnetic materials - metamaterials - can also be used to contrive novel manipulations across the electromagnetic spectrum.

The journal will publish papers in these areas and so span research into the theory, design and fabrication of metamaterials, microwave, photonic or plasmonic materials, the investigations of their properties and the successful integration of these materials into devices for applications such as photodetectors, sensors and biosensors, solar cells, photovoltaics, etc.

Particular emphasis will be given to those papers which exemplify both materials developments and their integration into functioning structures or devices, including novel manufacturing approaches.

The aims of Advances in Physics: X are to demonstrate:

  1. the connectivity of Physics, by which we mean the intellectual relationships between one branch of Physics and another, and
  2. the pervasiveness of Physics, that is, the influence of Physics across (hence the “X”) the boundaries into other disciplines, including chemistry, materials science, engineering, biology and medicine.

Thus the journal will promote the centrality of Physics and physical measurement to modern science and technology, defending the discipline and revealing both its richness and its impact.

The aims of “APX” will be achieved by the Open Access, electronic publication of concise review articles, commissioned from leading experts and made available freely throughout the world.

Advances in Physics: X draws upon the rich heritage of Advances in Physics, founded by Sir Nevill Mott in 1952 as a spin-off from the Philosophical Magazine, which was itself established in 1798 and has been published by Taylor & Francis since 1822.

To cover the cost of Open Access publishing, Advances in Physics: X charges an article publishing charge for all accepted articles. The article publishing charge for Advances in Physics: X is $950.

Africa Education Review has been in existence since 1972 under the name Educare. For many years it served as the in-house publication vehicle for members of staff in the Faculty of Education at the University of South Africa (Unisa). A decision was taken in 2003 that the journal should change in status from being an in-house journal to one that is housed in the Faculty of Education. The Journal has now become a publication outlet for academics nationally and internationally and has its home at the University of South Africa, South Africa. The Journal has been published biannually but will be published triennially as from 2011. Aims and ScopeAfrica Education Review is a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal that seeks the submission of unpublished articles on current educational issues. It encourages debate on theory, policy and practice on a wide range of topics that represent a variety of disciplines, interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary and transdisciplinary interests on international and global scale. The journal therefore welcomes contributions from associated disciplines including sociology, psychology and economics.

Africa Journal of Management

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 2332-2373 | eISSN: 2332-2381Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView author guidelines

The beginning of the Twenty First Century has witnessed Africa’s rise and progress as one of the fastest growing and most promising regions of the world. At the same time, serious challenges remain. To sustain and speed up momentum, avoid reversal, and deal effectively with emerging challenges and opportunities, Africa needs better management scholarship, education and practice. The purpose of the Africa Journal of Management (AJOM) is to advance management theory, research, education, practice and service in Africa by promoting the production and dissemination of high quality and relevant manuscripts. AJOM is committed to publishing original, rigorous, scholarly empirical and theoretical research papers, which demonstrate clear understanding of the management literature and draw on Africa’s local indigenous knowledge, wisdom and current realities. As the first scholarly journal of the Africa Academy of Management (AFAM), AJOM gives voice to all those who are committed to advancing management scholarship, education and practice in or about Africa, for the benefit of all of Africa.

AJOM welcomes manuscripts that develop, test, replicate or validate management theories, tools and methods with Africa as the starting point. The journal is open to a wide range of quality, evidence-based methodological approaches and methods that “link” “Western” management theories with Africa’s indigenous knowledge systems, methods and practice. We are particularly interested in manuscripts which address Africa’s most important development needs, challenges and opportunities as well as the big management questions of the day. We are interested in research papers which address issues of ethical conduct in different African settings.

Manuscripts should include data or viewpoints from more than one country or at the very least demonstrate relevancy for the wider African context. Of particular interest are manuscripts which focus on Africa’s productive enterprises, including locally owned businesses, the informal sector, start-ups, scale-ups, state owned enterprises, foreign (e.g. multinational corporations) businesses, non-government organizations, or combinations thereof (e.g. public-private partnerships, international joint ventures, intergovernmental agencies), organizational and human capital development, and current development management topics. AJOM is not only about geography, but also shared experiences and common heritage: we seek contributions globally.

AJOM operates an international double blind peer-review process and publishes four times a year both in print and online. The journal also publishes research notes, book reviews and insights, and comments and debates from readers on published papers or important management questions of the day. It serves as a medium for recognizing excellence and exceptional service for advancing management scholarship, widely defined, and education and practice in Africa and between Africa and the rest of the world.

African Historical Review

The African Historical Review is the successor to Kleio: A Journal of Historical Studies from Africa, which was published by the Department of History at the University of South Africa (Unisa) for more than thirty-five years. It therefore has a long and distinguished history. Originally conceived as a research and teaching forum for histories taught in the Department and to promote the work of students and staff, the journal has more recently been transformed into a publication in which high quality articles on a wide variety of historical subjects have appeared. The outstanding level of professional research and writing displayed in the journal has been recognised internationally, and from 2004 it became an accredited academic journal in South Africa, earning subsidy from the Department of Education. It is being relaunched as the African Historical Review in order to attract both a broader readership and contributor base and to showcase scholarship beyond southern Africa thus emphasising its intention to articulate southern African studies with continental African scholarship. The African Historical Review is independent of any professional society or association. Its mission, as befits its base in Africa and its new name, is to be transdisciplinary, responsive to theoretical developments in research relating to the continent of Africa and within fields closely linked to historical and heritage studies (including teaching) more generally. We welcome contributions from both established and younger scholars on themes from or in Africa, and would like to encourage innovative writing and research on a variety of topics and with an array of theoretical frameworks. This journal is accredited with the South African Department of Education.Routledge HistoryPromote Your Page Too.

African Identities

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 1472-5843 | eISSN: 1472-5851Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

African Identities provides a critical forum for the examination of African and diasporic expressions, representations and identities. The aim of this journal is to open up various horizons in the field: to encourage the development of theory and practice in a wider spread of disciplinary approaches; to promote conceptual innovation and to provide a venue for the entry of new perspectives. The journal focuses on the myriad of ways in which cultural production creates zones of profound expressive possibilities by continually generating texts and contexts of reflexive import. With an emphasis on gender, class, nation, marginalisation, "otherness" and difference, the journal explores how African identities, either by force of expediency or contingency, create layered terrains of (ex)change, decentre dominant meanings, paradigms and certainties. Important questions about the meanings of Africanness, "post-coloniality" and syncreticisms, for example, provide conceptual frameworks within which to situate the critical analysis of African cultural production and the axis of engagement with popular culture.Order an African Studies Journals Catalogue Peer Review Policy:All research articles published in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees. African Journalism Studies ( AJS) aims to contribute to the ongoing extension of the theories, methodologies and empirical data to under-researched areas of knowledge production, through its emphasis on African journalism studies within a broader, comparative perspective of the Global South. AJS strives for theoretical diversity and methodological inclusivity, by developing theoretical approaches and making critical interventions in global scholarly debates. The journal's comparative and interdisciplinary approach is informed by the related fields of cultural and media studies, communication studies, African studies, politics, and sociology.

The field of journalism studies is understood broadly, as including the practices, norms, value systems, frameworks of representation, audiences, platforms, industries, theories and power relations that relate to the production, consumption and study of journalism. A wide definition of journalism is used, which extends beyond news and current affairs to include digital and social media, documentary film and narrative non-fiction.

Manuscripts dealing with the intersections between journalism, politics, culture and society as these pertain to Africa and comparable regions in the Global South are especially invited. Areas of focus may include, but are not limited to: the political economy of journalism; global flows and contraflows of journalistic content and capital; journalism and social change; journalism and cultural identity; freedom of the press; journalism ethics; theories of journalism; journalism education and research; changing journalistic practices and norms. The role of journalism in mediating the emerging geopolitical relations between Africa and other regions of the Global South is of particular interest.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double-blind and submission is online via

African Security

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 1939-2206 | eISSN: 1939-2214Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

African Security is a new journal dedicated to the exploration of fresh approaches to understanding Africa,s conflicts and security concerns. Publishing three issues per annum, African Security investigates competing analytical approaches to understanding security while engaging in discussions of real world security issues in Africa. In particular, the journal seeks to investigate the myriad issues relating to conflict and security within and between African nations, not only from the more traditional approaches to security studies but also from more novel and innovative perspectives. The issues that define African security are hardly unique; they may, nonetheless, be more pronounced there than anywhere else. In order to truly understand conflict in Africa, existing paradigms in national and international security must be challenged. African security cannot be understood by applying only traditional theories and approaches to the study of international security, and to this end African Security seeks to push the envelope of traditional security studies, but in a way very much grounded in the extant security issues facing Africa. While the journal is based in the disciplines of political science, international relations, and international security, it welcomes theoretical challenges to how we understand conflict and security drawn from the perspectives of other disciplines, such as anthropology, development studies, environmental studies, and economics.Publication office: Taylor & Francis, Inc., 325 Chestnut Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Now listed in the Journal Citation Reports174; with a 2009 Impact Factor of 0.135Ranking: 40/44 (Area Studies)169; 2010 Thomson Reuters, 2009 Journal Citation Reports174; Vilakazi Prize 2011 AnnouncementRooted in a long tradition of scholarship, African Studies provides an inter-disciplinary forum for conceptual and empirical writing relevant to Africa, and that contributes to international dialogue and debate. The journal is edited from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, but draws on the expertise of an active editorial board, as well as a wide range of referees both within and beyond Southern Africa. The journal is particularly keen to consolidate and extend its commitment to support the publication of especially younger scholars of Africa. The end of the academic boycott has facilitated South Africa's re-entry into the field of international scholarship, which has made for a vibrant exchange of ideas between local academics and those from abroad or from other parts of Africa. While mirroring the character of local debate, the journal also aims to contribute to a broader and more international dialogue. To this end, it draws not only on the commitment and expertise of its working editorial board, which is based at the University of the Witwatersrand, but also on a wide range of referees both within and beyond southern Africa.First published as Bantu Studies in 1921, the journal included among its early editors and contributors many pioneering scholars in anthropology and linguistics: Schapera, Gluckman, Marwick, Mayer, Vilakazi, Rheinallt Jones, Doke, Cole, and Hammond-Tooke. Building on this legacy, the journal now casts its net more broadly and includes history, sociology, politics, geography, and literary and cultural studiesOrder an African Studies Journals CataloguePeer Review StatementAll research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous double-blind refereeing by two referees. American Communist History

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 1474-3892 | eISSN: 1417-3906Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

American Communist History is a non-partisan, objective journal for scholarship about the history of the Communist Party in the United States and its social, political, economic and cultural impact on its members, on its opponents, and the public at large. The journal deals with the American party and with the various outside influences which have dealt with its representation, with the controversial folklore that has been engendered about it, and with the many differing views about its antecedents, and its diverse opponents on the Left and Right. While rooted in the United States, the journal welcomes contributions which are transnational or international in scope. Despite the end of the Cold War, there is still enormous controversy about the range of Communist influence on all aspects of American life. This peer-reviewed journal of the Historians of American Communism makes available scholarship on the role of American Communism and Communists since the Party’s founding at the end of the First World War. Seeking the broadest possible perspective the journal seeks submissions not only from academic historians but from other scholars, journalists, and activists who can objectively contribute to a complex, intriguing, and important history. Research articles, notes and documents, interpretive essays, and short memoirs are welcome. The journal is committed to media reviews. We stress both the domestic sphere and the global one. American Communist History deals in detail with the various interpretations defining the role of the Communist Party, its front groups, its opponents, and Soviet agents in the United States within and on the Left and the Right. What the journal publishes is limited only by the curiosity of potential contributors and the need for quality. We wish to enhance the knowledge of issue-laden, often partisan, developments in a useful, professional, and intelligent way. American Communist History deals not only with Communism in the U.S., but with all aspects of its influence and the forces that influenced it.

Angelaki: Journal of Theoretical Humanities

Publisher: Taylor & Francis | ISSN: 0969-725X | eISSN: 1469-2899Subject areas: Visit Publisher homepageVisit journal homepageView aims and scope

Angelaki: journal of the theoretical humanities was established in September 1993 to provide an international forum for vanguard work in the theoretical humanities. In itself a contentious category, 'theoretical humanities' represents the productive nexus of work in the disciplinary fields of literary criticism and theory, philosophy, and cultural studies. The journal is dedicated to the refreshing of intellectual coordinates, and to the challenging and vivifying process of re-thinking.Angelaki: journal of the theoretical humanities encourages a critical engagement with theory in terms of disciplinary development and intellectual and political usefulness, the inquiry into and articulation of culture, and the complex determination of change and its relation to history. The journal is committed to fostering the theory of minor movements, recognising their significant impact on and dynamic relation to the development of cultures, political spaces and academic disciplines, and emphasising their formative power rather than their oppositional entrenchment. The journal promotes inquiry into questions of existential and political definition and agency, on the personal, collective and institutional levels, and encourages the work of spirited and experimental theoretical writing in all areas of value production.Angelaki: journal of the theoretical humanities publishes four issues per volume/year: two/three themed (Special) issues and one/two non-themed (General) issues. Articles for consideration for General issues are accepted throughout the year.Peer Review Policy:All research articles published in General Issues of the journal have undergone peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees. Articles published in Special Issues of the journal are normally on invitation. Where a call for papers is issued for Special Issues, submissions passed for review by the Issue Editor are subject to the same review process as submissions to General Issues.Disclaimer for scientific, technical and social science publications:Taylor & Francis makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the 8220;Content8221;) contained in its publications.
