The JBSP publishes papers on phenomenology and existential
philosophy as well as contributions from other fields of philosophy engaging
with topics in the tradition of Phenomenology. Papers from researchers
in the humanities and the human sciences interested in the philosophy of their
subject will be welcome too. Space will be given to research in progress, to
interdisciplinary discussion, and to book reviews.
In each annual volume we aim to publish one Special Issue covering themes of
contemporary significance. Proposals for such issues should be submitted to the
editor, around two years before planned publication. The person proposing the
Special Issue will usually serve as Guest Editor for that issue.
Peer review statement
All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor,
and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by two
independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double blind.
The Journal of the History of the Neurosciences assists the formation of a basis of historical background knowledge complementary to current understanding of the neurosciences. Contributions to the history of development in neurology over recent decades will be of assistance to neurologists working in the field. The Journal will cover all aspects of modern neurology as well as roots of the neurosciences in the more distant past. Where they contain original information or novel comment, historical and biographical accounts of individuals and institutions in the neurosciences will be accepted for publication. The history of ideas, the evolution of society and medicine, and the connection between neurosciences and the discipline of philosophy will also be open for discussion in the Journal. The Journal on the Use of Force and International Law (JUFIL) is a new peer reviewed journal covering all aspects of the law governing the use of force (jus ad bellum), as distinct from other areas of international law relating to security issues, such as International Humanitarian Law or International Criminal Law. Language Awareness encourages and disseminates work which explores the following: the role of explicit knowledge about language in the process of language learning; the role that such explicit knowledge about language plays in language teaching and how such knowledge can best be mediated by teachers; the role of explicit knowledge about language in language use: e.g. sensitivity to bias in language, manipulative aspects of language, literary use of language. Language & Intercultural Communication promotes an interdisciplinary understanding of the interplay between language and intercultural communication. It therefore welcomes research into intercultural communication, particularly where it explores the importance of linguistic aspects; and research into language, especially the learning of foreign languages, where it explores the importance of intercultural perspectives. The journal is alert to the implications for education, especially higher education, and for language learning and teaching. It is also receptive to research on the frontiers between languages and cultures, and on the implications of linguistic and intercultural issues for the world of work. The journal seeks to advance a perception of the intercultural dimension of language within a complex and pluralist view of the world. Language, Culture and Curriculum provides a forum for the discussion of the many factors, social, cultural, cognitive and organisational, which are relevant to the formulation and implementation of language curricula. Second languages, minority and heritage languages are a special concern. First-language and foreign language studies are also welcomed when they have implications for multiculturalism.Language Culture and Curriculum welcomes articles on language teaching programmes of all kinds that are designed to promote multiculturalism, with a special concern for weaker and threatened languages. Studies of first language learning are not excluded, nor are studies of English and other major languages, whether as first or as foreign and second languages, provided the topics of cultural content and learner motivation are prominent. Priority is given to articles dealing with language teaching, but historical, sociological and theoretical articles are welcomed if they deal with cultural and attitudinal aspects of language relevant to teaching practice.
Laterality: Asymmetries of Body, Brain and Cognition publishes high quality research on all aspects of lateralisation in humans and non-human species. Laterality's principal interest is in the psychological, behavioural and neurological correlates of lateralisation. The editors will also consider accessible papers from any discipline which can illuminate the general problems of the evolution of biological and neural asymmetry, papers on the cultural, linguistic, artistic and social consequences of lateral asymmetry, and papers on its historical origins and development. The interests of workers in laterality are typically broad. Submission of inter-disciplinary work, either empirical or theoretical, or concerned with problems of measurement or statistical analysis, is therefore also encouraged. The journal publishes special issues on particular topics. The first issue was published in March 1996, and six issues are now published every year.The editors encourage the submission of dissenting opinions and comments that directly relate to papers that have been published in Laterality. Law and Literature, published tri-annually and edited by faculty of the Cardozo School of Law and a board of international scholars, is one of only two journals in the country entirely focused on the interdisciplinary movement known as Law and Literature. The movement, which extols law-related literature and the literary value of legal documents, provides a unique perspective on how law and literature are mutually enlightening. Law and Humanities is a peer-reviewed journal, providing a forum for scholarly discourse within the arts and humanities around the subject of law. For this purpose, the arts and humanities disciplines are taken to include literature, history (including history of art), philosophy, theology, classics and the whole spectrum of performance and representational arts. The remit of the journal does not extend to consideration of the laws that regulate practical aspects of the arts and humanities (such as the law of intellectual property). Law and Humanities is principally concerned to engage with those aspects of human experience which are not empirically quantifiable or scientifically predictable. Each issue will carry four or five major articles of between 8,000 and 12,000 words each. The journal will also carry shorter papers (up to 4,000 words) sharing good practice in law and humanities education; reports of conferences; reviews of books, exhibitions, plays, concerts and other artistic publications.

Life Writing, one of the leading journals in the field of biography and autobiography, has the unique and unusual policy of carrying both scholarly articles and critically informed personal narrative. Luxury: History, Culture, Consumption is the first truly interdisciplinary, academic journal devoted to luxury, and satisfies the demand for scholarly, unbiased and penetrating thinking on the subject. Marriage & Family Review publishes a mix of open submission articles as well as thematic issues that bring together the most current research, practice, advances in theory development, and applications of knowledge on a particular topic in the field. Marriage & Family Review has historically welcomed open submissions from numerous international scholars and will continue to do so. The journal will continue to welcome manuscripts that concern family strengths and premarital relationship development. Another continued emphasis will be research-based manuscripts concerning controversial issues. Marriage & Family Review is also interested in manuscripts that present evidence for the reliability and validity of new measurement instruments in family studies or review such evidence for older measures. Also of interest would be scholarly manuscripts that discuss newer, high risk methodologies that may be applicable to family theory testing and data analysis. A new aim of Marriage & Family Review will be the publication of reviews of the literature of an intermediate level. For example, Journal of Marriage and Family regularly publishes "Decade in Review" articles that summarize the previous decade's research in a major area of research (e.g., marital interaction). Marriage & Family Review wishes to complement such reviews by focusing on reviews that concern the previous five to twenty years of research in a more concentrated area of study (e.g., marital interaction among military couples). At least one issue a year will be dedicated to such reviews. Doctoral candidates in particular may wish to consider Marriage & Family Review as a professional outlet for their literature review work. A new focus for Marriage & Family Review also will be brief commentaries on previously published articles, with priority given to articles previously published in Marriage & Family Review, then articles published in other major family journals that do not accept such commentaries or feedback, and lastly, commentaries that, although being theoretically and methodologically sound, have been rejected by major family journals. Rebuttals to any such comments will also be welcomed enthusiastically. Family scholars are invited to suggest particular thematic special issues for the journal's consideration, including guest editors for those special issues. Media Psychology is an interdisciplinary journal devoted to publishing theoretically-oriented empirical research that is at the intersection of psychology and media communication. These topics include media uses, processes, and effects. Such research is already well represented in mainstream journals in psychology and communication, but its publication is dispersed across many sources. Therefore, scholars working on common issues and problems in various disciplines often cannot fully utilize the contributions of kindred spirits in cognate disciplines. By providing a high-quality, common publication outlet for psychologists, communication researchers, human developmental specialists, and other scholars who are interested in the psychological consequences of the broad spectrum of communication media, potentially fertile cross-disciplinary work can flourish. Medieval Mystical Theology, published as the Eckhart Review since 1992, is the new name of the peer-reviewed journal of The Eckhart Society. The journal’s change of title reflects a broadening of its editorial remit.
Medieval Mystical Theology welcomes the submission of scholarly papers embracing all factors contributing to the understanding of medieval mystical theology. This includes not only the study of individual writers, but also movements, themes, developments, and ideas within the context of mystical theology in the Middle Ages. The journal embraces the influence of Neo-Platonism, Aristotelianism, Patristics, Judaism and Islam on Christian medieval mystical theology, as well as interpretations of the tradition for today. Comparisons between medieval mystical theology and other traditions, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and Confucianism, are also within the compass of the journal. As the journal of The Eckhart Society, it especially welcomes scholarly studies of the life, work, and reception of Meister Eckhart.

Mediterranean Politics is the only refereed academic journal to focus on the politics, international relations and political economy of the entire Mediterranean area - 'Mediterranean' here being understood to refer to all those countries whose borders are defined partially or wholly by the Mediterranean Sea. This focus involves consideration not only of the region itself, but also the significance of developments there for other parts of the world. The journal analyses the central issues that concern Mediterranean countries and assesses both local and international responses to them. While its prime concern is with political developments, the focus of Mediterranean Politics extends to all the factors and dimensions affecting political life. These include social movements and issues, regional and domestic conflicts, the political economy of the Mediterranean, migration, political reform processes and issues of cultural identity. The journal does not accept articles on historical subjects that lack direct contemporary linkage, or general economics articles with a Mediterranean context. Since its inception, the journal has given extensive attention to the expanding relationships between Europe and its southern neighbours, including the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, European Neighbourhood Policy and Union for the Mediterranean. Equally, we welcome contributions on interactions between the Mediterranean and other parts of the world. The articles are based on original research, some focused on individual states, others on relationships between them, the role of multilateral organizations in the area or issues that are relevant to the area or sub-areas as a whole or to several countries studied comparatively. Besides research articles, the journal publishes a regular Profile section devoted to briefer analysis of recent events or developments, and a substantial book review section, usually containing a review article. The Middle East Development Journal aims to deepen understanding of development in the Middle East and North Africa and strengthen the social science research community in the region. NORA especially promotes: * Nordic differences: debate among Nordic and non-Nordic feminist researchers on the situated, linked and diverse nature of Nordic feminisms in changing political, historical and cultural contexts. * Intra- and intersectionality studies: creative and critical feminist dialogues and methodological advances across multiple axes of differentiation and signification, such as religion, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, cultural capital, age, mother tongue, dis/ability, to mention only a few. * Engagements with 'the ontological turn' of feminist thought: human and non-human embodiment, posthumanities, biopolitics, animal studies and material feminisms, the environment and the natural sciences. * Power in practice: changing power relations and subjectivities - debates on equality, policy directives and regulations in state and organisation, research politics and social change, gouvernmentality. NORA welcomes submissions that partake in, or reflect, Nordic discussions and research interests within the interdisciplinary field of feminist and gender research. Empirical and thematic, theoretical or more conceptual articles are all welcomed, as are open letters, position papers, book reviews and review articles which set several recent books within the context of past or ongoing debates. Submitted manuscripts must be written in an academic English of international standard in order to be considered for review. British spelling is to be used except in the case of words where 'z' has generally replaced the 's', as in the case of 'organize'. The preferred length of a scientific article is 7-8000 words including notes and references. All articles submitted should be accompanied by an abstract of 150-200 words, and up to 5 key words. For the double blind peer review process to work, the name, or names, of the author(s), must only appear on a separate title page. The separate title page should also include a short biography of the author(s) and indicate the name of the corresponding author for the submitted manuscript.

National Identities explores the formation and expression of national identity from antiquity to the present day. It examines the role in forging identity of cultural (language, architecture, music, gender, religion, the media, sport, encounters with 8216;the other' etc.) and political (state forms, wars, boundaries) factors, by examining how these have been shaped and changed over time. The historical significance of 8216;nation'in political and cultural terms is considered in relationship to other important and in some cases countervailing forms of identity such as religion, region, tribe or class. The focus is on identity, rather than on contingent political forms that may express it. The journal is not prescriptive or proscriptive in its approach. Instead, it acts as a forum within which the growing number of scholars working in this field can explore this important subject. Nationalism & Ethnic Politics explores the varied political aspects of nationalism and ethnicity in order to develop more constructive inter-group relations. The journal publishes case studies and comparative and theoretical analyses. It deals with pluralism, ethno-nationalism, irredentism, separatism, and related phenomena, and examines processes and theories of ethnic identity formation, mobilization, conflict and accommodation in the context of political development and 'nation-building'. The journal compares and contrasts state and community claims, and deal with such factors as citizenship, race, religion, economic development, immigration, language, and the international environment. Neurocase is a rapid response journal of both adult and child case studies in neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry and behavioral neurology. Four types of manuscript are considered for publication: single case investigations that bear directly on issues of relevance to theoretical issues or brain-behavior relationships; group studies of subjects with brain dysfunction that address issues relevant to the understanding of human cognition; reviews of important topics in the domains of neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry and behavioral neurology; and brief reports (up to 2500 words) that replicate previous reports dealing with issues of considerable significance. Neuropsychological Rehabilitation publishes human experimental and clinical research related to rehabilitation, recovery of function, and brain plasticity. Information networking is an enabling technology with the potential to integrate and transform information provision, communication and learning. The New Review of Information Networking, published biannually, provides an expert source on the needs and behaviour of the network user; the role of networks in teaching, learning, research and scholarly communication; the implications of networks for library and information services; the development of campus and other information strategies; the role of information publishers on the networks; policies for funding and charging for network and information services; and standards and protocols for network applications. Nordic Social Work Research aims to promote and disseminate high quality research on social work in the Nordic countries by publishing peer reviewed original articles, with social work understood in a broad sense, including practices as well as conditions and policy.
Nordic Social Work Research promotes critical and pluralistic perspectives from an interdisciplinary standpoint and welcomes contributions from researchers in different social science disciplines. A variety of methodological approaches are represented and contributions include both empirically based and theoretical articles. Studies with a comparative perspective on Nordic countries are of interest. Articles that present studies of Nordic social work or help mediate between Nordic and international scholarly discussions are especially encouraged.

Northern History was the first regional historical journal. Produced since 1966 under the auspices of the School of History, University of Leeds, its purpose is to publish scholarly work on the history of the seven historic Northern counties of England: Cheshire, Cumberland, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland, Westmorland and Yorkshire. Since it was launched it has always been a refereed journal, attracting articles on Northern subjects from historians in many parts of the world. It aims to stimulate and encourage serious research, professional and amateur alike, on the history of all parts of the North, including the Borders, from Roman times to the twentieth century. Archaeological reports are not accepted, but papers which use archaeological evidence and articles based on all kinds of historical sources and methods of research are welcome. The journal includes articles on topics treated regionally, and on the history of particular localities set in a wider context; it seeks to publish contributions which examine historical topics in different parts of the North, or which draw comparisons between different areas and explain the historical distinctiveness of particular districts. Northern History also includes papers which discuss general Northern subjects or which compare the history of the North with that of other parts of the country.
Norwegian Archaeological Review published since 1968, aims to be an interface between archaeological research in the Nordic countries and global archaeological trends, a meeting ground for current discussion of theoretical and methodical problems on an international scientific level. The main focus is on the European area, but discussions based upon results from other parts of the world are also welcomed. The comments of specialists, along with the author’s reply, are given as an addendum to selected articles. The Journal is also receptive to uninvited opinions and comments on a wider scope of archaeological themes, e.g. articles in Norwegian Archaeological Review or other journals, monographies, conferences. The journal will also present review articles and book reviews to enhance the international visibility of current research in the Nordic countries. All articles are peer-reviewed.

Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift-Norwegian Journal of Geography, published since 1926, is a continuation of Norsk Geografisk Aarbog (1889-1921) and is associated with the Norwegian Geographical Society. The editors are: * Michael Jones (editor-in-chief) - special responsibility for human geography. * Ivar Berthling - special responsibility for physical geography. * Anders Lundberg - special responsibility for environmental geography. * Ragnhild Lund - Department of Geography, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway The journal reflects the many facets of geography and tries to take an all-round geographical view, both regionally and thematically, by striking an equal balance between physical and human geographical material. The journal aims at presenting geographical research directed towards problems and areas of interest to Norwegian researchers. Themes related to the geography of Norway, the Nordic countries and adjacent regions, including polar environments, are of special interest, but relevant topics dealing with other parts of the world are included. In addition, research notes, short articles, including some of special interest for teachers of geography, reviews of Norwegian doctoral theses in geography, and other book reviews are published in a separate section of the journal. All articles are refereed by two independent reviewers.

Oxford German Studies is a fully refereed journal, and publishes in English and German, aiming to present contributions from all countries and to represent as wide a range of topics and approaches throughout German studies as can be achieved. The thematic coverage of the journal continues to be based on an inclusive conception of German studies, centred on the study of German literature from the Middle Ages to the present, but extending a warm welcome to interdisciplinary and comparative topics, and to contributions from neighbouring areas such as language study and linguistics, history, philosophy, sociology, music, and art history. The editors are literary scholars, but seek advice from specialists in other areas as appropriate. OGS was founded in 1965 by Ernest Stahl, Peter Ganz, Malcolm Pasley, and Jim Reed to promote the study of German language and literature from the Middle Ages to the present day. At least one issue per volume is a collection of articles on a range of diverse subjects in the familiar format, and one is usually a themed issue addressing a particular subject, author, or period. The third issue varies between general and themed issues from year to year. .

PaleoAmerica disseminates new research results and ideas about early human dispersal and migrations, with a particular focus on the Americas. It fosters an interdisciplinary dialog between archaeologists, geneticists and other scientists investigating the dispersal of modern humans during the late Pleistocene.
The journal has three goals: First and foremost, the journal is a vehicle for the presentation of new research results. Second, it includes editorials on special topics written by leaders in the field. Third, the journal solicits essays covering current debates in the field, the state of research in relevant disciplines, and summaries of new research findings in a particular region, for example Beringia, the Eastern Seaboard or the Southern Cone of South America. Although the journal’s focus is the peopling of the Americas, editorials and research essays also highlight the investigation of early human colonization of empty lands in other areas of the world. As techniques are developing so rapidly, work in other regions can be very relevant to the Americas, so the journal will publish research relating to other regions which has relevance to research on the Americas.
