Journal Guide

The Journal of Comparative Psychology® publishes original empirical and theoretical research from a comparative perspective on the behavior, cognition, perception, and social relationships of diverse species. The submission of articles containing data on multiple species and multiple tasks is especially encouraged. Studies can be descriptive or experimental and can be conducted in the field or in captivity.Papers in the following areas are especially welcome: * behavior genetics * behavioral rhythms * communication * cognition * behavioral biology of conservation and animal welfare * animal models in robotics * experimental economics * development * endocrine–behavior interactions * evolutionary psychology * methodology * phylogenetic comparisons * orientation and navigation * sensory and perceptual processes * social behavior * social cognition * personality and temperament.

The Current Opinion journals were developed out of the recognition that it is increasingly difficult for specialists to keep up to date with the expanding volume of information published in their subject. In Current Opinion in Psychology, we help the reader by providing in a systematic manner:

1. The views of experts on current advances in psychology in a clear and readable form.
2. Evaluations of the most interesting papers, annotated by experts, from the great wealth of original publications.

Division of the subject into sections

The subject of psychology is divided into themed sections, some of which may be reviewed on an annual basis if appropriate. The amount of space devoted to each section is related to its importance.

Selection of topics to be reviewed

Section Editors, who are major authorities in the field, are appointed by the Editors of the journal. They divide their section into a number of topics, ensuring that the field is comprehensively covered and that all issues of current importance are emphasised. Section Editors commission reviews from authorities on each topic that they have selected.

Reviews

Authors write short review articles in which they present recent developments in their subject, emphasising the aspects that, in their opinion, are most important. In addition, they provide short annotations to the papers that they consider to be most interesting from all those published in their topic over the previous year.

Review articles in Current Opinion in Psychology are by invitation only.

Editorial Overview

Section Editors write a short overview at the beginning of the section to introduce the reviews and to draw the reader's attention to any particularly interesting developments.

Social work as an academic discipline was reintroduced to universities in the Chinese mainland in the 1980s. The number of universities offering social work programs has increased drastically in the past two decades. Social services provided by government organizations and NGOs have also proliferated as a response to rising social problems and needs. China Journal of Social Work (CJSW) is the first academic English journal jointly edited from Hong Kong and mainland China, to focus on social work development taking place in China. CJSW is an international peer-reviewed journal published by the Taylor and Francis Group, in collaboration with Peking University - The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China Social Work Research Centre. The journal endeavours to provide a platform for scholars within and outside mainland China to share research, teaching and practice experiences and to facilitate critical dialogue between Chinese social workers and their international peers.The journal welcomes submissions from all areas of social work theory and practice, social work education, social development, and social policy in the Chinese context. While the journal will primarily focus on the Chinese mainland, it welcomes contributions from other countries and regions, which have broad implications for social work internationally.CJSW aims to:Document updated social policy trends and initiatives in social work and social development in different Chinese societies.Encourage international dialogue and debates on issues related to social work theory and practice, social work education, social development, and social policy in the Chinese context.Promote indigenization of social work theory and practice in the Chinese context.Serve as a catalyst to promote positive social development and to enhance social betterment in Chinese societies. CJSW is published three times a year (in April, July, and November). The journal strikes a balance between qualitative and quantitative research. All articles are published in English, but quality academic papers written in Chinese are welcomed for peer review. Psychology, Public Policy, and Law® provides a forum to critically evaluate the contributions of psychology and related disciplines (hereinafter psychology) to public policy and legal issues, and vice versa. It is intended to appeal to law professors, legal professionals, judges, and public policy analysts, as well as psychology researchers and practitioners working at the interface of the three fields. The journal publishes theoretical and empirical articles that critically evaluate the contributions and potential contributions of psychology to public policy and legal issues; assess the desirability of different public policy and legal alternatives in light of the scientific knowledge base in psychology; articulate research needs that address public policy and legal issues for which there is currently insufficient theoretical and empirical knowledge; present empirical work that makes a significant contribution to the application of psychological knowledge to public policy or the law; and examine public policy and legal issues relating to the conduct of psychology and related disciplines (e.g., human subjects, protection policies; informed consent procedures). Although some of these issues may be addressed in articles currently being submitted to traditional law reviews, this publication uniquely provides peer review, scientific and legal input, and editorial guidance from psychologists and lawyers. Through publication in a single forum, it will also focus attention of scholarly, public policy, and legal audiences on such work.

International Social Work is a scholarly peer reviewed journal designed to extend knowledge and promote communication in the fields of social development, social welfare and human services. Social Science Information (SSI) is a major international forum for the analysis and debate of trends and approaches in social science research and teaching. Philosophy, Psychiatry, & Psychology (PPP) focuses on the area of overlap among philosophy, psychiatry, and abnormal psychology. The International Journal of Psychoanalysis is a fully peer reviewed journal published six times a year (February, April, June, August, October and December) since its merger with The International Review of Psycho-Analysis in 1994. It is the only psychoanalytic journal regularly publishing extensive contributions by authors throughout the world - facilitated by a system of international editorial boards and the policy of allowing submission and review in all main European languages, followed by translation of accepted papers at the Journal's expense. The Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology is a peer-reviewed journal that reports research findings regarding the theory, practice and application of psychological issues in the criminal justice context, namely law enforcement, courts, and corrections. The Journal encourages submissions focusing on Police Psychology including personnel assessment, therapeutic methods, training, ethics and effective organizational operation. The Journal also welcomes articles that focus on criminal behavior and the application of psychology to effective correctional practices and facilitating recovery among victims of crime. School Psychology Quarterly® publishes empirical studies and literature reviews of the psychology of education and services for children in school settings, encompassing a full range of methodologies and orientations, including educational, cognitive, social, cognitive behavioral, preventive, cross-cultural, and developmental perspectives.Focusing primarily on children, youth, and the adults who serve them, School Psychology Quarterly publishes research pertaining to the education of populations across the life span.We welcome manuscripts from scholars throughout the world, including research from multi-site international projects and work that has the potential to be adapted to and implemented around the globe to address the needs of diverse populations, cultures, and communities.Papers linking innovative empirical research with practice and public policy in the USA and elsewhere will also be considered.

Small Group Research (SGR), peer-reviewed and published bi-monthly, is an international and interdisciplinary journal presenting research, theoretical advancements, and empirically supported applications with respect to all types of small groups.
