Palynology is an international journal, and covers all aspects of the science. We accept papers on both pre-Quaternary and Quaternary palynology and palaeobotany. Contributions on novel uses of palynology, review articles, book reviews, taxonomic studies and papers on methodology are all actively encouraged. Fresh pollen from anthers were processed using acetolysis 2. infiltrated with 2,2'-thiodiethanol (TDE), a mounting medium for high-resolution microscopy 3. A 3-D image stack was acquired using an Olympus FV1000 laser scanning confocal microscope with a 100x/1.4 oil immersion objective (Excitation 488 nm, emission 500-600nm) 4. Imported the entire confocal stack into Osiri X 3D medical imaging software running on an iMac with 4GB of RAM. 5. Selected every fifth slice in the stack for rendering, in order to fit the stacks into the 4GB memory limit addressable by a 32-bit operating system 6. Perform 3D rendering using a color map optimized for bones and soft tissue 7. Adjusted the color map and transparency, in order to show both the exterior surface textures and the interior wall structures Work for this image was performed by Vaughn M. Papers from the Institute of Archaeology (PIA) is a peer reviewed, open access journal that publishes research on all aspects of archaeology, museum studies, cultural heritage and conservation. We publish research papers and short reports. We also welcome reviews of conferences, exhibitions and books. We accept online submissions via the journal website. Run by doctoral students at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, the aim of PIA is to provide authors with experience in publishing articles early in their careers. We therefore place extra emphasis on the provision of peer review feedback and editorial assistance. We publish online as soon as articles are ready, so there is no delay in research being released and submissions can be sent throughout the year.

The journal is fully indexed, blind peer-reviewed and fully open access. The PIA would like to thank all of our peer reviewers and copy editors for their time and invaluable expertise.

Pattern Recognition is the official journal of the Pattern Recognition Society. The Society was formed to fill a need for information exchange among research workers in the pattern recognition field. Up to now, we ''pattern-recognitionophiles'' have been tagging along in computer science, information theory, optical processing techniques, and other miscellaneous fields. Because this work in pattern recognition presently appears in widely spread articles and as isolated lectures in conferences in many diverse areas, the purpose of the journal Pattern Recognition is to give all of us an opportunity to get together in one place to publish our work. The journal will thereby expedite communication among research scientists interested in pattern recognition.We consider pattern recognition in the broad sense, and we assume that the journal will be read by people with a common interest in pattern recognition but from many diverse backgrounds. These include biometrics, target recognition, biological taxonomy, meteorology, space science, classification methods, character recognition, image processing, industrial applications, neural computing, and many others.The publication policy is to publish (1) new original articles that have been appropriately reviewed by competent scientific people, (2) reviews of developments in the field, and (3) pedagogical papers covering specific areas of interest in pattern recognition. Permafrost and Periglacial Processes is an international journal dedicated to the rapid publication of scientific and technical papers concerned with earth surface cryogenic processes, landforms and sediments present in a variety of (Sub) Arctic, Antarctic and High Mountain environments. It provides an efficient vehicle of communication amongst those with an interest in the cold, non-glacial geosciences. The focus is on (1) original research based on geomorphological, hydrological, sedimentological, geotechnical and engineering aspects of these areas and (2) original research carried out upon relict features where the objective has been to reconstruct the nature of the processes and/or palaeoenvironments which gave rise to these features, as opposed to purely stratigraphical considerations. The journal also publishes short communications, reviews, discussions and book reviews. The high scientific standard, interdisciplinary character and worldwide representation of PPP are maintained by regional editorial support and a rigorous refereeing system. Perspectives in Plant Ecology, Evolution and Systematics (PPEES) publishes outstanding and thought-provoking articles of general interest to an international readership in the fields of plant ecology, evolution and systematics. Of particular interest are longer, in-depth articles that provide a broad understanding of key topics in the field. Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology publishes original manuscripts, full-length/mini reviews, thematic issues, rapid technical notes and commentaries that provide insights into the synthesis, characterisation and pharmaceutical (or diagnostic) application of materials at the nanoscale. The nanoscale is defined as a size range of below 1 µm. Scientific findings related to micro and macro systems with functionality residing within features defined at the nanoscale are also within the scope of the journal. Manuscripts detailing the synthesis, exhaustive characterisation, biological evaluation, clinical testing and/or toxicological assessment of nanomaterials are of particular interest to the journal’s readership. Articles should be self contained, centred around a well founded hypothesis and should aim to showcase the pharmaceutical/diagnostic implications of the nanotechnology approach. Manuscripts should aim, wherever possible, to demonstrate the in vivo impact of any nanotechnological intervention. As reducing a material to the nanoscale is capable of fundamentally altering the material’s properties, the journal’s readership is particularly interested in new characterisation techniques and the advanced properties that originate from this size reduction. Both bottom up and top down approaches to the realisation of nanomaterials lie within the scope of the journal.

Pharmacological Research provides a rapid information exchange medium for specialists within the discipline of pharmacology. In particular, Pharmacol Research does not publish papers that describe• Single dose studies with very few animals, no dose-response studies.• In-vitro assays with single dose or very high dose, measuring only one endpoint.• Repetition of a simple bioassay for yet another extract or plant.

Physica C (Superconductivity and its Applications) publishes peer-reviewed papers on novel developments in the field of superconductivity. Topics include discovery of new superconducting materials and elucidation of their mechanisms, physics of vortex matter, enhancement of critical properties of superconductors, identification of novel properties and processing methods that improve their performance and promote new routes to applications of superconductivity.The main goal of the journal is to publish:1. Papers that substantially increase the understanding of the fundamental aspects and mechanisms of superconductivity and vortex matter through theoretical and experimental methods.2. Policy and Society is a leading international journal that publishes original and innovative research addressing policy theory and practice at the local, national and international level. It seeks to explore the policy contexts that shape policy processes, the intersection between policy and politics, and the political, social, and economic manifestation of these on policy and society.The Journal welcomes submissions that deal with policy processes and contexts from a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective.The journal publishes themed issues, not individual papers.
