Gerontology

ISSN: 0304-324XeISSN: 1423-0003

Understanding the mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases has become an urgent matter given the growing proportion of older adults in the population. Gerontology, the oldest journal in the field, is the only journal with contributions from multiple disciplines. Its papers support the fundamental goals of extending active life and enhancing its quality. In the Clinical Section, the etiology, pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment of age-related diseases are discussed from a gerontological rather than a geriatric viewpoint. The Experimental Section contains up-to-date contributions from basic gerontological research. Papers dealing with behavioral development and related topics are published in the Behavioral Science Section. Basic aspects of regeneration in different experimental biological systems as well as in the context of medical applications are dealt with in the Regenerative Section whereas the Technological Section contains important information on major technological adva

Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology

ISSN: 1759-5045eISSN: 1759-5053

The ultimate aim of cancer research is to eliminate this common and devastating disease from the human population. To develop more effective prevention methods we need to understand what triggers carcinogenesis. To diagnose precancerous lesions and early-stage cancers quickly and accurately we need to detect the earliest molecular changes leading to each type of cancer. To determine a patient's prognosis we need to appreciate which molecular changes affect tumour growth rate and invasiveness. And to tailor therapies to individual tumours we need to understand the fundamental differences, not only between a cancer cell and a 'normal' cell, but also between one cancer cell and another. All of these goals depend on a combination of basic and applied research. Nature Reviews Cancer will be a gateway from which cancer researchers — from those investigating the molecular basis of cancer to those involved in translational research — access the information that they need to further the ability to diagnose, treat and ultimately prevent cancer.

This important publication covers the dual areas of neuroethics: the ethics of neuroscience and the neuroscience of ethics. It offers comprehensive bibliographies, reviews of significant literature, information on activities including partial proceedings of selected meetings, and an opinions section for reader commentaries.

IEEE Systems Journal

ISSN: 1932-8184eISSN: 1937-9234

This publication provides a systems-level, focused forum for application-oriented manuscripts that address complex systems and system-of-systems of national and global significance. It intends to encourage and facilitate cooperation and interaction among IEEE Societies with systems-level and systems engineering interest, and to attract non-IEEE contributors and readers from around the globe. Our IEEE Systems Council job is to address issues in new ways that are not solvable in the domains of the existing IEEE or other societies or global organizations. These problems do not fit within traditional hierarchical boundaries. For example, disaster response such as that triggered by Hurricane Katrina, tsunamis, or current volcanic eruptions is not solvable by pure engineering solutions. We need to think about changing and enlarging the paradigm to include systems issues.
