Globalizations

ISSN: 1474-7731eISSN: 1474-774X

An Introduction to Globalizations the JournalIntroduction TranscriptA Message from Professor Barry K. Gills - Editor of GlobalizationsGlobalizations publishes work which explores new meanings of globalization, brings fresh ideas to the concept, broadens its scope and contributes to shaping debates of the future. Globalizations is dedicated to opening the widest possible space for discussion of alternatives to a narrow economic understanding of globalization. The move from the singular to the plural is deliberate and implies scepticism of the idea that there can ever be a single theory or interpretation of the term. Rather, the journal encourages the exploration and discussion of multiple interpretations and multiple processes that may constitute many possible globalizations, many possible alternatives. The journal is open to all fields of knowledge, including the natural, environmental, medical, and public health sciences, as well as the social sciences and humanities. Globalizations encourages multidisciplinary research and publishes contributions from all regions of the world.Themes of the journal include: Global Political Economy: stability and change; inequality poverty and global justice Global Environmental: crises versus sustainability Global Public Health: pandemics and remedies Global Gender Relations: exploitation versus empowerment Global Human Security: conflict, peace and collective responsibilities Global Culture: singularity versus multiplicity Global Governance: institutions, organizations, movements and global civil society Global Ethics: values, dialogue and praxis Peer ReviewAll research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by two anonymous referees.

International Planning Studies

ISSN: 1356-3475eISSN: 1469-9265

Planning, at urban, regional, national and international levels, faces new challenges, notably those related to the growth of globalisation as both an objective socio-economic process and a shift in policy-maker perceptions and modes of analysis. International Planning Studies (IPS) addresses these issues by publishing quality research in a variety of specific fields and from a range of theoretical and normative perspectives, which helps improve understanding of the actual and potential role of planning and planners in this context. Specific policy areas covered include: * urban design * economic development * environmental policy * spatial planning * housing * transport * social inclusion. IPS fills a gap between the more specialist theoretical and empirical journals in planning and urban-regional studies. In so doing it throws new light on the influences on, and effects of, the evolution of planning around the world. The editor particularly welcomes contributions addressing the relationships between the ideas informing planning theory, practice and process, and the outcomes of planning, past and present Contributors are invited to submit articles based on original empirical or theoretical work, or assessments or critiques of existing studies, that offer new perspectives, critical insights, or new data to stimulate and inform debate over the future development of planning. Journal of Business Finance & Accounting

ISSN: 0306-686XeISSN: 1468-5957

The Journal of Business Finance and Accounting exists to publish high quality research papers in accounting, finance and their interface. The interface is especially apparent in the areas of corporate governance, financial reporting and communication, financial performance measurement and managerial reward and control structures. A feature of the Journal is that it recognises that informational problems are pervasive in financial markets and business organisations, and that accounting plays an important role in resolving such problems. The Journal welcomes both theoretical and empirical contributions. Nonetheless, theoretical papers should yield novel testable implications, and empirical papers should be theoretically well-motivated. The Editors view accounting and finance as being closely related to economics and, as a consequence, papers submitted will often have theoretical motivations that are grounded in economics. The Journal, however, also seeks papers that complement economics-based theorising with theoretical developments originating in other social science disciplines or traditions. While many papers in the Journal use econometric or related empirical methods, the Editors also welcome contributions that use other empirical research methods.Although the scope of the Journal is broad, the Journal is not a suitable outlet for highly abstract mathematical papers, or empirical papers with inadequate theoretical motivation. Also, papers that study asset pricing, or the operations of financial markets, should have direct implications for one or more of preparers, regulators, users of financial statements, and corporate financial decision-makers, or at least should have implications for the development of future research relevant to such users. All article submissions should be made online - see the author guidlines for further information.

Physics of Life Reviews is an international journal appearing quarterly, that publishes review articles on physics of living systems, complex phenomena in biological systems, and related fields of artificial life, robotics, mathematical bio-semiotics, and artificial intelligent systems. This journal is a unifying force, going across the barriers between disciplines, addressing all living systems from molecules to populations and from genetics to mind and artificial systems modeling these phenomena. The journal invites reviews from actively working researchers, which are broad in scope, critical, accessible to our wide readership and addresses sometimes controversial accounts of recent progress and problems.Physics of Life Reviews intends to keep the active researcher abreast of developments on a wide range of topics by publishing timely reviews, which are more than mere literature surveys but normally less than a full monograph. Although most of the reviews will be of a specialist nature, each review should contain enough introductory material to make the main points intelligible to a non-specialist and to inspire and facilitate interdisiplinary research. The reviews should address in a clear way the most important conceptual issues in a field, review existing theories and methods with their achievements and drawbacks or difficulties versus the issues, unsolved problems addressed by a new theory, method, or approach, and why a significant progress is achieved or expected. Future research directions, remaining unsolved problems, and experimental confirmations or controversies should also be addressed.
