Journal Guide

It is impossible to give a comprehensive list of topics which are considered acceptable and the following list is intended for guidance only:

• Fire chemistry and physics
• Fire dynamics (including gas explosions)
• Active fire protection systems, including detection and suppression
• Passive fire protection methods
• People/fire interactions (physical, physiological and psychological)
• Fire safety management
• Assessment and quantification of fire risk (including acceptability of risk)
• Fire investigation
• Fire safety design (including consumer items, industrial plant, transportation, buildings)
• Fire safety legislation
• Fire safety education.

Original contributions relating to any of the above topics are invited, particularly if they incorporate a quantitative approach to the subject in question.

The interdisciplinary journal Fire Technology spans a range of fire safety science and engineering problems in industrial, operational, cultural, and environmental applications. Topics include materials testing, fire modeling, detection and suppression, performance standards, human behavior, and fire risk analysis. Coverage extends to fire safety science, fire protection engineering, fire research, fire risk analysis, fire investigation, municipal fire protection, wildland fires, loss statistics, and related subjects. Fire and Materials is an international journal for scientific and technological communications directed at the fire properties of materials and the products into which they are made. This covers all aspects of the polymer field and the end uses where polymers find application; the important developments in the fields of natural products - wood and cellulosics; non-polymeric materials - metals and ceramics; as well as the chemistry and industrial applications of fire retardant chemicals. Contributions will be particularly welcomed on heat release; properties of combustion products - smoke opacity, toxicity and corrosivity; modelling and testing.

First Amendment Studies (formerly Free Speech Yearbook) is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original essays, which make a significant contribution to theory and/or policy, on all aspects of free speech.

While the journal has changed its name, its mission remains the same. We continue to accept historical and contemporary essays addressing areas such as, but not limited to, doctrinal analysis of international and national free speech law and legislation, the rhetorical analysis of cases and judicial rhetoric, theoretical and cultural issues related to free speech, and the role of free speech in a wide variety of contexts (e.g., organizations, popular culture, from traditional to new media, etc.)

First Language is an international peer reviewed journal that publishes the highest quality original research in child language acquisition. Child language research is multidisciplinary and this is reflected in the contents of the journal: research from diverse theoretical and methodological traditions is welcome. Authors from a wide range of disciplines - including psychology, linguistics, anthropology, cognitive science, neuroscience, communication, sociology and education - are regularly represented in our pages.

First World War Studies is a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal that seeks to publish articles that explore comparative, trans-national, and multi-disciplinary strengths evident in the International Society for First World War Studies and pursue as its guiding principles the same intellectual assets. As the Society draws its strengths from graduate students to more experienced scholars, the journal is equally committed to a collegial academic forum open to any scholar irrespective of degree, academic seniority, or disciplinary affiliation. The journal approaches the subject of the First World War without chronological, geographic, or topical constraints. It embraces not merely the period associated with the years between 1914 and 1918, but seeks to include the diplomatic, political, social, cultural, and military complexities evident before, during, and most certainly after the cessation of hostilities. The journal will contribute significantly to the ongoing debates concerning the origins and causes, conduct, and implications of the First World War. First World War Studies is the only scholarly journal devoted to this extraordinary and controversial conflict and maintains an Editorial Board that consists of many internationally recognized scholars.
