The official journal of the American Orthopsychiatric Association, the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry is dedicated to informing public policy and professional practice and to the expansion of knowledge relating to mental health and human development from a multidisciplinary and interprofessional perspective. American Psychologist® is the official journal of the American Psychological Association. As such, the journal contains archival documents and articles covering current issues in psychology, the science and practice of psychology, and psychology's contribution to public policy.Archival and Association documents include, but are not limited to the Annual Report of the Association Council minutes the Presidential Address editorials other reports of the Association ethics information surveys of the membership employment data obituaries calendars of events announcements selected award addresses.

The primary mission of Behavioral Neuroscience® is to publish original papers in the broad field of the biological bases of behavior. Research articles cover all aspects of behavioral neuroscience, including * learning * memory * motivation * homeostasis * sleep and circadian rhythms * reproduction * cognitionExperimental subjects include human and non-human animals; studies using non-traditional species (including invertebrates) and employing comparative analyses are welcome.In addition to behavior, it is expected that some aspect of nervous system function will be manipulated or observed, ranging across molecular, anatomical, endocrinological, pharmacological, and physiological levels of analysis.Studies employing brain imaging techniques in normal and pathological human populations are also published.In addition to full-length research papers, the journal also publishes Brief Communications, which must not exceed 3,250 words of text and contain no more than two figures and/or tables. When appropriate, Commentaries on research papers are invited by the editors. Finally, the journal publishes Reviews and Minireviews on any theoretical, empirical, or historical topic related to the role of the nervous system in the production of behavior.

Cultural Diversity & Ethnic Minority Psychology seeks to publish theoretical, conceptual, research, and case study articles that promote the development of knowledge and understanding, application of psychological principles, and scholarly analysis of social–political forces affecting racial and ethnic minorities.Especially welcome are articles that *advance the contributions of psychology in the understanding of issues related to people of color through research, including the development of appropriate research paradigms; *promote the education and training of psychologists in matters regarding people of color, including the special issues relevant to the delivery of services to minority populations; and *advance the accumulation of knowledge related to diversity and multiculturalism, with particular attention to the wider society and the formation of public policy.

Developmental Psychology® publishes articles that advance knowledge and theory about development across the life span. The journal includes significant empirical contributions as well as scholarly reviews and theoretical or methodological articles. Studies of any aspect of psychological development are appropriate, as are studies of the biological, social, and cultural factors that affect development. The journal welcomes not only laboratory-based experimental studies but studies employing other rigorous methodologies, such as ethnographies, field research, and secondary analyses of large data sets. We especially seek submissions in new areas of inquiry and submissions that will address contradictory findings or controversies in the field as well as the generalizability of extant findings in new populations. Although most articles in this journal address human development, studies of other species are appropriate if they have important implications for human development. Submissions can consist of single manuscripts, proposed sections, or short reports.

Emotion® publishes significant contributions to the study of emotion from a wide range of theoretical traditions and research domains. The journal includes articles that advance knowledge and theory about all aspects of emotional processes, including reports of substantial empirical studies, scholarly reviews, and major theoretical articles.Submissions from all domains of emotion research are encouraged, including studies focusing on cultural, social, temperament and personality, cognitive, developmental, health, or biological variables that affect or are affected by emotional functioning. Both laboratory and field studies are appropriate for the journal, as are neuroimaging studies of emotional processes. Studies of psychopathology contributing to the understanding of the role of emotional processes in affective and behavioral disorders are also welcome. Reports of work at the animal and molecular levels will be considered if they help to elucidate fundamental mechanisms of emotion.Most of the articles published in Emotion will be reports of original research, but other types of articles are acceptable.* Case studies from either a clinical setting or a laboratory will be considered if they raise or illustrate important questions that go beyond the single case and have heuristic value.*Articles that present or discuss theoretical formulations of emotion and related affective phenomena, or that evaluate competing theoretical perspectives on the basis of published data, may also be accepted.*Comprehensive reviews of the empirical literature in an area of study are acceptable if they contain a meta-analysis and/or present novel theoretical or methodological perspectives.*Comments on articles published in the journal will be considered.

Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology publishes advances in translational and interdisciplinary research on psychopharmacology and drug abuse. The scope of research in these areas continues to expand and to benefit from collaborations across a broad range of disciplines, including behavioral science, brain imaging, genetics, neuroendocrinology, neuroscience, and pharmacology.One goal of the journal is to encourage increased attention to biologic factors that may influence both the pharmacodynamic and the pharmacokinetic effects of drugs. Recent research has shown the importance of examining the effects of sex and menstrual/estrous cycle phase on the effects of abused drugs, as well as responses to medications for the treatment of drug abuse and the alleviation of pain.The journal publishes original reports on the development and evaluation of new pharmacotherapies, the influence of genetics and hormones on responses to abused drugs and treatment medications, the pharmacological management of pain, and brain imaging studies of the neural correlates of drug effects.The journal will focus on clinical laboratory studies and controlled clinical medication trials as well as basic preclinical experiments on psychopharmacology and drug abuse.The journal also will include comprehensive and integrative reviews of advances in research on psychopharmacology. These reviews should provide a broad perspective on a particular area of research or trace the development of critical concepts and experimental approaches.Each year, the journal will recognize young investigators who are recipients of the Young Psychopharmacologist Award or the Best Dissertation Award, as well as midcareer and senior scientists who receive the Brady–Schuster Award from APA Division 28, Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse. Awardees will be invited to submit a review paper based on their award-winning research.The journal may occasionally publish innovations in psychopharmacology that report a novel method, measure, or result. Commentary on the nature and implications of the innovation may be invited.The overall goal is to provide a forum for innovative clinical and preclinical research that advances our understanding of the behavioral and biological determinants of the effects of drugs.

Health Psychology is a scholarly journal devoted to understanding the scientific relations among psychological factors, behavior and physical health and illness. The readership is broad with respect to discipline, background, interests, and specializations.The main emphasis of the journal is on original research, including integrative theoretical review papers, meta-analyses, treatment outcome trials, and brief scientific reports. Scholarly case studies, commentaries, and letters to the editor will also be considered.Papers should have significant theoretical or practical importance for understanding relations among behavior, psychosocial factors, and physical health, as well as their application. History of Psychology® features refereed articles addressing all aspects of psychology's past and of its interrelationship with the many contexts within which it has emerged and has been practiced.It also publishes scholarly work in closely related areas, such as historical psychology (the history of consciousness and behavior), psychohistory, theory in psychology as it pertains to history, historiography, biography and autobiography, the teaching of the history of psychology, and data mining regarding the history of psychology.

The Journal of Abnormal Psychology® publishes articles on basic research and theory in the broad field of abnormal behavior, its determinants, and its correlates. The following general topics fall within its area of major focus: psychopathology—its etiology, development, symptomatology, and course; normal processes in abnormal individuals; pathological or atypical features of the behavior of normal persons; experimental studies, with human or animal subjects, relating to disordered emotional behavior or pathology; sociocultural effects on pathological processes, including the influence of gender and ethnicity; and tests of hypotheses from psychological theories that relate to abnormal behavior. Theoretical papers of scholarly substance on abnormality may be appropriate if they advance understanding of a specific issue directly relevant to abnormal psychology and fall within the length restrictions of a regular (not extended) article. The priority is empirical papers. Each article should represent an addition to knowledge and understanding of abnormal behavior in its etiology, description, or change. In order to improve the use of journal resources, it has been agreed that the Journal of Abnormal Psychology will not consider articles dealing with the diagnosis or treatment of abnormal behavior, and the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology will not consider articles dealing with the etiology or descriptive pathology of abnormal behavior. Therefore, a study that focuses primarily on treatment efficacy should be submitted to the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. However, a longitudinal study focusing on developmental influences or origins of abnormal behavior should be submitted to the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.

The Journal of Applied Psychology® emphasizes the publication of original investigations that contribute new knowledge and understanding to fields of applied psychology (other than clinical and applied experimental or human factors, which are more appropriate for other American Psychological Association journals). The journal primarily considers empirical and theoretical investigations that enhance understanding of cognitive, motivational, affective, and behavioral psychological phenomena.

The Journal of Comparative Psychology® publishes original empirical and theoretical research from a comparative perspective on the behavior, cognition, perception, and social relationships of diverse species. The submission of articles containing data on multiple species and multiple tasks is especially encouraged. Studies can be descriptive or experimental and can be conducted in the field or in captivity.Papers in the following areas are especially welcome: * behavior genetics * behavioral rhythms * communication * cognition * behavioral biology of conservation and animal welfare * animal models in robotics * experimental economics * development * endocrine–behavior interactions * evolutionary psychology * methodology * phylogenetic comparisons * orientation and navigation * sensory and perceptual processes * social behavior * social cognition * personality and temperament.

APA and the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) have joined together to publish the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education®.Multidisciplinary in perspective, this quarterly journal offers research findings, theory, and promising practices to help guide the efforts of institutions of higher education in the pursuit of inclusive excellence.Journal of Diversity in Higher Education publishes empirical research, literature reviews, and evaluations of promising practices and policies that support efforts to transform institutions, inspire colleagues, engage campus, governmental, and private sector leaders, and articulate culturally competent outcomes.

The main purpose of the Journal of Educational Psychology® is to publish original, primary psychological research pertaining to education across all ages and educational levels. A secondary purpose of the Journal is the occasional publication of exceptionally important theoretical and review articles that are pertinent to educational psychology.

The mission of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied® is to publish original empirical investigations in experimental psychology that bridge practically oriented problems and psychological theory. The journal also publishes research aimed at developing and testing of models of cognitive processing or behavior in applied situations, including laboratory and field settings. Occasionally, review articles are considered for publication if they contribute significantly to important topics within applied experimental psychology. Areas of interest include applications of perception, attention, memory, decision making, reasoning, information processing, problem solving, learning, and skill acquisition. Settings may be industrial (such as human–computer interface design), academic (such as intelligent computer-aided instruction), forensic (such as eyewitness memory), or consumer oriented (such as product instructions).

The Journal of Experimental Psychology: General® publishes articles describing empirical work that bridges the traditional interests of two or more communities of psychology.The work may touch on issues dealt with in JEP: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, JEP: Human Perception and Performance, JEP: Animal Behavior Processes, or JEP: Applied, but may also concern issues in other subdisciplines of psychology, including social processes, developmental processes, psychopathology, neuroscience, or computational modeling.Articles in JEP: General may be longer than the usual journal publication if necessary.Brief reports will also be accepted (up to 3,000 words, excluding title, references, author affiliations, acknowledgments, figures and figure legends, but including the abstract). Brief reports will be rejected without review by editors at a higher rate than longer articles and the Journal will only accept the most innovative and significant empirical and theoretical contributions, with a preference for work that impacts more than one area of psychology.

The Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance® publishes studies on perception, control of action, perceptual aspects of language processing, and related cognitive processes. All sensory modalities and motor systems are within its purview.The journal also encourages studies with a neuroscientific perspective that contribute to the functional understanding of perception and performance.There are three types of articles: * Observations facilitate the rapid communication of ground-breaking research of general interest to readers of the journal. Observations are limited to 2,000 words in the main body of the text. A cover letter should explain why the research is appropriate to present as an Observation. * Reports consist of empirical studies that increase theoretical understanding of human perception and performance. Studies will typically include human data, although machine and animal studies that reflect on human capabilities may also be published. Should an author submit a full Report following an Observation, the relationship between the two manuscripts must be acknowledged in an author footnote. * Commentary may occasionally be published consisting of nonempirical reports, theoretical notes, or criticism on topics pertinent to the journal's concerns.

The Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition® publishes original experimental studies on basic processes of cognition, learning, memory, imagery, concept formation, problem solving, decision making, thinking, reading, and language processing.The journal emphasizes empirical reports, which may be either multi-experiment, integrative articles, or research reports. Research reports are limited to 3,000 to 5,000 words in length (including references, but excluding abstract and footnotes).The journal also publishes specialized reviews and other non-empirical reports, called observations, which are theoretical notes, commentary, or criticism on topics appropriate to the journal's content area. The journal will only consider commentaries on articles that were published in the journal. Observations are limited to a maximum of twenty pages of text all-inclusive. Commentaries on articles should be at maximum half the length of the target article.

The Journal of Occupational Health Psychology® publishes research, theory, and public policy articles in occupational health psychology, an interdisciplinary field representing a broad range of backgrounds, interests, and specializations. Occupational health psychology concerns the application of psychology to improving the quality of work life and to protecting and promoting the safety, health, and well-being of workers. The Journal has a threefold focus on the work environment, the individual, and the work–family interface. The Journal seeks scholarly articles, from both researchers and practitioners, concerning psychological factors in relationship to all aspects of occupational health and safety. Included in this broad domain of interest are articles in which work-related psychological factors play a role in the etiology of health problems articles examining the psychological and associated health consequences of work articles concerned with the use of psychological approaches to prevent or mitigate occupational health problems Special attention is given to articles with a prevention emphasis. Authors should consider the financial costs of identified problems and/or economic benefits of interventions they evaluate. Manuscripts dealing with issues of contemporary relevance to the workplace, especially with regard to minority, cultural, or occupationally underrepresented groups, or topics at the interface of the family and the workplace, are encouraged.

The journal welcomes excellent empirical and theoretical contributions to basic and applied research in personnel psychology and related methodology. Reviews are also welcome. Articles deal with all fields in personnel psychology, including selection, performance measurement, motivation, leadership, organizational commitment, personnel development and training, new test developments, and job analysis. As many topics in personnel psychology are closely related to issues in other branches of psychology or, more generally, the social sciences and human resource management, the journal is open to contributions of an interdisciplinary nature. There are three categories of submission: original articles (with a maximum length of 6,000 words, including references but excluding tables and figures), research notes (with a maximum length of 2,500 words, including references but excluding tables and figures), and review articles (with a maximum length of 8,000 words, including references but excluding tables and figures).

Journal closed. Law and Human Behavior, the official journal of the American Psychology-Law Society/Division 41 of the American Psychological Association, is a multidisciplinary forum for the publication of articles and discussions of issues arising out of the relationships between human behavior and the law, our legal system, and the legal process. This journal publishes original research, reviews of past research, and theoretical studies from professionals in criminal justice, law, psychology, sociology, psychiatry, political science, education, communication, and other areas germane to the field.

Content: Military Psychology is the quarterly journal of Division 19 (Society for Military Psychology) of the American Psychological Association. The journal seeks to facilitate the scientific development of military psychology by encouraging communication between researchers and practitioners. The domain of military psychology is the conduct of research or practice of psychological principles within a military environment. The journal publishes behavioral science research articles having military applications in the areas of clinical and health psychology, training and human factors, manpower and personnel, social and organizational systems, and testing and measurement. Topics of major concern to military psychology will be covered in special journal issues. Military Psychology is international in scope, and the editors encourage submission of articles that address research being carried out in a variety of national settings. Contributions will be considered for publication in the following categories: Research Articles: Reports of empirical research. Notes: Brief articles describing work that is largely confirmatory, advances in knowledge arising as by-products of broader studies, or new research techniques and methodologies. Neuropsychology publishes primarily original, empirical research on the relation between brain and human cognitive, emotional, and behavioral function. Sought are submissions of experimental, cognitive, behavioral, and neuroimaging research with implications for neuropsychological theory, research, and practice.Articles that increase understanding of neuropsychological functions in both normal and disordered states and across the lifespan are encouraged. Neuropsychology focuses on basic research as well as on applied, clinical research that will stimulate systematic experimental, cognitive, and behavioral investigations as well as improve the effectiveness, range, and depth of clinical practice. Theoretical reviews, meta-analyses, and case reports with heuristic value are also published.

Aims and Scope: Peace and Conflict: Journal of Peace Psychology welcomes scholarly manuscripts concerning peace, conflict, and their interaction at all levels of analysis, from interpersonal to community, regional, and international issues. The journal publishes empirical, theoretical, clinical, historical work, and book reviews on enduring and emerging issues that speak to the interests of researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and educators. Professional Psychology: Research and Practice® publishes articles on the application of psychology, including the scientific underpinnings of the profession of psychology. Articles that present assessment, treatment, and practice implications are encouraged. Both data-based and theoretical articles on techniques and practices used in the application of psychology are acceptable. Specifically, this journal is an appropriate outlet for articles on state-of-the-art literature reviews of clinical research on specific high-incidence disorders specifically written so as to draw out the implications for assessment and/or treatment research and theory on public policy as it affects the practice of psychology current advances in applications from such fields as health psychology, community psychology, psychology of women, clinical neuropsychology, family psychology, psychology of ethnicity and culture, forensic psychology, and other areas standards of professional practice and delivery of services in a variety of contexts—industries, institutions, and other organizations research and theory as they concern the interests of those in the practice of psychology The journal also publishes brief reports on research or practice in professional psychology.

The mission of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Journal is to promote the development of new knowledge related to psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery of persons with serious mental illnesses.The journal publishes peer reviewed articles and reports describing innovative programs and practice in rehabilitation and recovery and is intended for those readers with a professional and personal interest in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation.The journal encourages submissions related to feasibility testing and preliminary studies such as interventions and manual development, testing of measures and preliminary testing of interventions that can meet the challenge of developing evidence-based practices in psychiatric rehabilitation. We encourage potential authors to submit articles about measurement of constructs of importance to the field of psychiatric rehabilitation and studies examining the effectiveness of services and interventions which use quasi-experimental and experimental designs.

Psychological Assessment publishes mainly empirical articles concerning clinical assessment. Papers that fall within the domain of the journal include research on the development, validation, application, and evaluation of psychological assessment instruments. Diverse modalities (e.g., cognitive, physiologic, and motoric) and methods of assessment (e.g., questionnaires, interviews, natural environment and analog environment observation, self-monitoring, participant observation, physiological measurement, instrument-assisted and computer-assisted assessment) are within the domain of the journal, especially as they relate to clinical assessment. Also included are topics on clinical judgment and decision making (including diagnostic assessment), methods of measurement of treatment process and outcome, and dimensions of individual differences (e.g., race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, economic status) as they relate to clinical assessment. Case studies will be considered if they make unique contributions to clinical assessment. Highly focused reviews of assessment instruments or methods of assessment with particular behavior disorders, theoretical papers related to assessment, and papers bridging basic and applied dimensions of assessment will be considered. Papers on measurement theory and methods will be considered if they are specifically addressed to clinical assessment.

Psychological Bulletin® publishes evaluative and integrative research reviews and interpretations of issues in scientific psychology. Both qualitative (narrative) and quantitative (meta-analytic) reviews will be considered, depending on the nature of the database under consideration for review.Integrative reviews or research syntheses focus on empirical studies and seek to summarize past research by drawing overall conclusions from many separate investigations that address related or identical hypotheses. A research synthesis typically presents the authors' assessments of * the state of knowledge concerning the relations of interest; * critical assessments of the strengths and weaknesses in past research; and * important issues that research has left unresolved, thereby directing future research so it can yield a maximum amount of new information.Both cumulative and historical approaches (i.e., ones that organize a research literature by highlighting temporally unfolding developments in a field) can be used. Integrative research reviews that develop connections between areas of research are particularly valuable.Manuscripts dealing with topics at the interface of psychological sciences and society are welcome, as are evaluations of applied psychological therapies, programs, and interventions. Expository articles may be published if they are deemed accurate, broad, clear, and pertinent.Methodological articles that previously were submitted to Psychological Bulletin should now be submitted to Psychological Methods. Original theoretical articles should be submitted to Psychological Review, even when they include summaries of research. Research syntheses should be submitted to Psychological Bulletin even when they develop integrated theoretical statements.

Psychological Methods® is devoted to the development and dissemination of methods for collecting, analyzing, understanding, and interpreting psychological data. Its purpose is the dissemination of innovations in research design, measurement, methodology, and quantitative and qualitative analysis to the psychological community; its further purpose is to promote effective communication about related substantive and methodological issues.The audience is expected to be diverse and to include those who develop new procedures, those who are responsible for undergraduate and graduate training in design, measurement, and statistics, as well as those who employ those procedures in research.The journal solicits original theoretical, quantitative, empirical, and methodological articles; reviews of important methodological issues; tutorials; articles illustrating innovative applications of new procedures to psychological problems; articles on the teaching of quantitative methods; and reviews of statistical software.Submissions will be judged on their relevance to understanding psychological data, methodological correctness, and accessibility to a wide audience. Where appropriate, submissions should illustrate through concrete example how the procedures described or developed can enhance the quality of psychological research.The journal welcomes submissions that show the relevance to psychology of procedures developed in other fields. Empirical and theoretical articles on specific tests or test construction should have a broad thrust; otherwise, they may be more appropriate for Psychological Assessment. The experiences should hold general appeal to the readership and should clearly communicate the learning that came from the experience.Research Tools for the Psychologist-Manager: Original empirical research relevant to the practicing psychologist-manager. Studies of applications of management to psychology or psychology to management are welcome, provided they have clear and direct implications for the psychologist-manager. Generally, qualitative work, case studies, essays, interviews, biographical profiles, and literature reviews are discouraged.

Psychology of Men & Masculinity® is devoted to the dissemination of research, theory, and clinical scholarship that advances the psychology of men and masculinity. This discipline is defined broadly as the study of how boys' and men's psychology is influenced and shaped by both gender and sex, and encompasses the study of the social construction of gender, sex differences and similarities, and biological processes. We are interested in work that arises from applied specialties (clinical, counseling, school, and I/O psychology), foundational areas (social, developmental, cognition, emotion, and biopsychology), and integrative fields (neuroscience, behavioral medicine, and behavioral neuroendocrinology). We welcome research using diverse methodologies, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Scholarship advancing our understanding of men's psychology across the life span; across racial, ethnic, sexual orientation and gender identity groups; across national boundaries; and across historical time is welcome.

Psychology of Popular Media Culture ^® is a scholarly journal dedicated to publishing empirical research and papers on how popular culture and general media influence individual, group, and system behavior.

The journal publishes rigorous research studies, as well as data-driven theoretical papers on constructs, consequences, program evaluations, and trends related to popular culture and various media sources. Although the journal welcomes and encourages submissions from a wide variety of disciplines, topics should be linked to psychological theory and research.

Psychology of Religion and Spirituality® publishes peer-reviewed, original articles related to the psychological aspects of religion and spirituality.The journal publishes articles employing experimental and correlational methods, qualitative analyses, and critical reviews of the literature. Papers evaluating clinically relevant issues surrounding training, professional development, and practice are also considered.

Psychology, Public Policy, and Law® provides a forum to critically evaluate the contributions of psychology and related disciplines (hereinafter psychology) to public policy and legal issues, and vice versa. It is intended to appeal to law professors, legal professionals, judges, and public policy analysts, as well as psychology researchers and practitioners working at the interface of the three fields. The journal publishes theoretical and empirical articles that critically evaluate the contributions and potential contributions of psychology to public policy and legal issues; assess the desirability of different public policy and legal alternatives in light of the scientific knowledge base in psychology; articulate research needs that address public policy and legal issues for which there is currently insufficient theoretical and empirical knowledge; present empirical work that makes a significant contribution to the application of psychological knowledge to public policy or the law; and examine public policy and legal issues relating to the conduct of psychology and related disciplines (e.g., human subjects, protection policies; informed consent procedures). Although some of these issues may be addressed in articles currently being submitted to traditional law reviews, this publication uniquely provides peer review, scientific and legal input, and editorial guidance from psychologists and lawyers. Through publication in a single forum, it will also focus attention of scholarly, public policy, and legal audiences on such work.

Review of General Psychology seeks to publish innovative theoretical, conceptual, or methodological articles that cross-cut the traditional subdisciplines of psychology.The journal contains articles that advance theory, evaluate and integrate research literatures, provide a new historical analysis, or discuss new methodological developments in psychology as a whole.Review of General Psychology is especially interested in articles that bridge gaps between subdisciplines in psychology as well as related fields or that focus on topics that transcend traditional subdisciplinary boundaries. Authors are encouraged to write their manuscripts from the perspective of more than one subdiscipline and to review literature that spans at least two subdisciplines.Manuscripts are of particular interest to Review of General Psychology when they provide a provocative challenge to customary or prevailing views; intellectual risk-taking is encouraged. Articles devoted primarily to reporting new empirical findings are generally not appropriate for the journal.
