Nursing Philosophy

ISSN: 1466-7681eISSN: 1466-769X

Nursing Philosophy provides a forum for discussion of philosophical issues in nursing. These focus on questions relating to the nature of nursing and to the phenomena of key relevance to it. For example, any understanding of what nursing is presupposes some conception of just what nurses are trying to do when they nurse. But what are the ends of nursing? Are they to promote health, prevent disease, promote well-being, enhance autonomy, relieve suffering, or some combination of these? How are these ends are to be met? What kind of knowledge is needed in order to nurse? Practical, theoretical, aesthetic, moral, political, 'intuitive' or some other? Papers that explore other aspects of philosophical enquiry and analysis of relevance to nursing (and any other healthcare or social care activity) are also welcome and might include, but not be limited to, critical discussions of the work of nurse theorists who have advanced philosophical claims (e.g., Benner, Benner and Wrubel, Carper, Schrok, Watson, Parse and so on) as well as critical engagement with philosophers (e.g., Heidegger, Husserl, Kuhn, Polanyi, Taylor, MacIntyre and so on) whose work informs health care in general and nursing in particular.

Each issue contains Pediatric Transplant Grand Rounds which comprise reports from institutions worldwide aimed at sharing pertinent clinical information with those caring for pediatric transplant recipients. The publication of a journal devoted to transplantation in infants, children and adolescents is extremely important because of the increasing clinical use of tissue and organ transplantation to resolve catastrophic circumstances not amenable to other therapeutic approaches. The journal serves the needs of pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, transplant surgeons, pediatric urologists, pediatric nephrologists, pediatric gastroenterologists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric pulmonologists and pediatric haematologists/oncologists, all of whom will find great advantage in the timely updated information offered by the journal.

Permafrost and Periglacial Processes is an international journal dedicated to the rapid publication of scientific and technical papers concerned with earth surface cryogenic processes, landforms and sediments present in a variety of (Sub) Arctic, Antarctic and High Mountain environments. It provides an efficient vehicle of communication amongst those with an interest in the cold, non-glacial geosciences. The focus is on (1) original research based on geomorphological, hydrological, sedimentological, geotechnical and engineering aspects of these areas and (2) original research carried out upon relict features where the objective has been to reconstruct the nature of the processes and/or palaeoenvironments which gave rise to these features, as opposed to purely stratigraphical considerations. The journal also publishes short communications, reviews, discussions and book reviews. The high scientific standard, interdisciplinary character and worldwide representation of PPP are maintained by regional editorial support and a rigorous refereeing system. THE SUBJECT MATTER GEOCRYOLOGY, PAST AND PRESENT: the study of frozen ground (seasonally frozen ground as well as permafrost), excluding glacier ice; active and inactive processes and forms; cold-climate or (Sub) Arctic, Antarctic and High Mountain environments. Perspectives in Psychiatric Care

ISSN: 0031-5990eISSN: 1744-6163

As the official journal of the Adult and Geropsychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (AGPN), a division of the International Society for Psychiatric Nurses (ISPN), Perspectives in Psychiatric Care (PPC) is recognized and respected as THE journal for advanced practice psychiatric nurses. The journal provides advanced practice nurses with current research, clinical application, and knowledge about psychiatric nursing, prescriptive treatment, and education. It publishes peer-reviewed papers that reflect clinical practice issues, psychobiological information, and integrative perspectives that are evidence-based. Perspectives in Psychiatric Care includes regular columns on the biology of mental illness and pharmacology, the art of prescribing, integrative perspectives, and private practice issues. Devoted readers pore through this journal for: Meaningful dialogue about clinical practice, conceptual thinking, and research in psychiatric nursing Current information regarding prescribing – the neurobiology and the art of making valid decisions about drug therapy Discussions on private practice issues and shared experiences How complimentary alternative care can be integrated with traditional Western medicine as a valid approach to patient careThe journal recognizes the importance of ‘the decade of the brain’ and the need to synthesize this changing paradigm of mental health with the historical ‘relational’ approach to patient care. The editorial team carefully tracks the trends in mental health that affect nursing practice, to help readers stay current, relevant, and effective in advanced practice nursing. The scope of the journal is to support the practice of advance psychiatric nursing by offering the latest in research, education, and application to clinical practice. You’ll want to read PPC for the unique perspectives related to outpatient care in psychiatric nursing, as this content is hard to find in other nursing journals. Topics are clinically oriented, and cover “hot” areas such as prevention and aftermath of violence in adult populations.
