In the Middle Ages it found its wayback to Europe and became the chief navigational instrument until theinvention of the sextant in the 18th century.

Insectes Sociaux (IS) is the journal of the International Union for the Study of Social Insects (IUSSI). It covers the various aspects of the biology and evolution of social insects and other presocial arthropods; these include ecology, ethology, morphology, population genetics, reproduction, communication, sociobiology, caste differentiation and social parasitism. The journal publishes original research papers and reviews, as well as short communications. An international editorial board of 21 eminent specialists attests to the high quality of Insectes Sociaux, a forum for all scientists and readers interested in the study of social insects.

The International Journal of Biodiversity Science, Ecosystem Services & Management (IJBESM) aims to improve our understanding of the role of biodiversity in providing ecosystem services and the associated management systems needed to maintain biodiversity and use ecosystem services in a sustainable mannerIJBESM focuses on the interaction between biodiversity at all levels (ecosystems, species, genes) and papers published in the Journal should address at least one of the following themes:(a) the link between biodiversity and ecosystem services; i.e. what is the role of biodiversity in providing ecosystem services ? (b) the link between ecosystem services and management; i.e. how can ecosystem services be (sustainably) managed and what are the trade-offs in service provision, and values, between different management states ?(c) the link between biodiversity and management; i.e. what is the influence of management alternatives on biodiversity conservation ?Articles may address these topics from different perspectives, including basic research, integrated assessment approaches (participatory or model-oriented) or policy-oriented. They may be inter-disciplinary or draw from more specialized fields such as biology, (landscape) ecology, genetics, land use and conservation science, and socio-cultural or economic studies. Systems addressed may range from natural and semi-natural ecosystems to cultivated systems and urban areas.IJBESM accepts Original Research Papers, Research Letters and Review Articles.Preparation of manuscripts should be in accordance with the Instructions for Authors.

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene is a peer-reviewed journal published monthly by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and consists of two complete, sequentially numbered volumes each calendar year.

International Journal of Odonatology (IJO) is aimed at providing a publication outlet for the growing number of students of Odonata. Reviews will be by invitation, but authors who plan to write a review on a subject of interest to the journal are encouraged to contact the editor.

The algae are heterogeneous assemblage of phytosynthetic organisms, one of the most vast and diverse groups of ancient photoautotrophic pro- and eukaryotic organisms (about 30 000 known species). They are micro- and macroscopic, unicellular, colonial, or multicellular, mobile and immobile, attached and free-living. Algae are widespread in water and soil habitats, at different geographic latitudes, and on all continents. They occur in waters with different degrees of salinity, trophicity, organic matter, and hydrogen ions, and at various temperatures. They include planktonic, periphytonic and benthic organisms. Algae are unique model organisms in evolutionary biology and also are used in various genetic, physiological, biochemical, cytological, and other investigations. Algae have practical significance as edible or poisonous plants, as indicator organisms in the monitoring of ecological systems, as agents of self-purification of polluted waters and in the purification of sewage, as the primary producers in the trophic chains of hydrobionts in marine and freshwater, and also as organisms for biotechnology. The quarterly International Journal on Algae (IJA) publishes selected papers translated from the first Russian language phycological journal, Algologia, founded in 1991 in the former Soviet Union. The aim of Algologia is to present recent advances in algology. The journal covers both fundamental and applied aspects in algology, including papers based on the results of wide range of field and experimental studies, as well as reviews and surveys and procedure papers. The journal is intended for specialists in theoretical, experimental, and applied algology, hydrobiology, microbiology, all scientists using algae as a model organisms for research, and all those interested in general problems of biology. Invertebrate Systematics (formerly Invertebrate Taxonomy) publishes original and significant contributions on the systematics and phylogeny of invertebrates worldwide. Papers provide comprehensive or revisionary treatments of clearly defined taxonomic groups and contain information on the phylogeny, biogeography and/or other aspects of biodiversity and general biology of the group. Contributions on the systematics of selected species that are of conservation, economic, medical or veterinary importance may also be considered, if these aspects are substantially highlighted in the work. Short, general papers, pertinent to invertebrate systematic biology are encouraged on: methodology, theoretical systematics, cladistics, phylogeny, molecular biology and biogeography. Pivotal reviews of general invertebrate systematics, containing innovative data or overviews of current theories, are also actively sought.
