Since 1997, the journal has treated complexity as the defining feature of modernity, and has focused on the effects of complexity on mass democracy. Critical Review is now the leading forum for considering whether voters and other political decision makers can make good choices in the face of pervasive ignorance about the social problems they are trying to solve. By exploring the informational and cognitive failures to which human decision makers are prone, Critical Review brings a large dose of realism to normative comparisons among political institutions and economic systems, seeking to ensure that such comparisons adequately take account of the modern world's complexity. Communication Education invites original, social science research on communication in instructional contexts. These should be methodologically rigorous studies that advance practice and theory in instruction generally, and in communication education specifically. I encourage submissions from well-designed, systematic and programmatic research, theoretically-grounded projects, rigorous literature reviews and meta-analyses. Importantly, these studies must be data-based and have a substantive impact on educational processes. Sound studies that examine constructs that are important to teaching/learning processes will be emphasized; e.g., teacher/student interaction, classroom management, information processing, mediated or technology education, educational communication constructs, development and assessment, and learning outcomes will be considered. Both new and experienced scholars are encouraged to submit their works, and will receive feedback that is both expedient and helpful. Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety (CRFSFS) is one of the peer-reviewed on-line journals of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). It has been published quarterly since 2002 (www.ift.org). Review papers provide in-depth coverage of a narrowly defined topic on any food science or food safety aspect, including nutrition, engineering, microbiology, sensory evaluation, physiology, genetics, economics, regulations, and history. A typical review embodies careful assessment of all pertinent studies (weaknesses, strengths, discrepancies in findings) so that insightful, integrative interpretations, summaries, and conclusions are presented. For either an unsolicited or an invited manuscript authors should submit to the Scientific Editor a suitable title, a brief outline, and a short statement describing the importance of the topic and how the presentation will advance food science and food technology.
