The importance of VAT/GST in all the leading developing nations cannot be overestimated. The volume of case law and legislation pertaining to VAT has grown enormously in recent years, with a corresponding increase in interest in VAT among practising lawyers, policy-makers and academic commentators. It is therefore all the more surprising that hitherto VAT has not been the subject of the sustained attention that a Journal is able to provide. It is with this in mind that an international team of experts assembled to provide a forum for the systematic analysis of current developments in VAT law. The Journal is intended to become the primary source of informed comment and analysis among European practitioners and scholars, and a vital source of information and discussion at the international level.  It will become an essential resource for leading accountancy and law firms, scholars of VAT and tax law in Europe and worldwide, European institutions, national tax courts, and practising lawyers specialising in this area.

Journal of Arrhythmia, the official journal of the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society and the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society, aims to provide a scientific platform on which to promote excellence and advancement in the study and care of patients with cardiac rhythm disorders. The Journal of Cell Biology is an international peer-reviewed journal owned by The Rockefeller University and published by The Rockefeller University Press.In the early 1950s, a small group of biologists began to explore intracellular anatomy using the emerging technology of electron microscopy. Many of these researchers were at The Rockefeller Institute of Medicine, the predecessor of The Rockefeller University. As their work progressed to publication, they were disappointed with the limited quality of halftone image reproduction in the printed journals of the time, and they were frustrated by the narrow editorial policies of existing journals regarding their image-based results. In 1954, the director of The Rockefeller Institute, Detlev Bronk, convened a luncheon to discuss the creation of a new journal as a venue for publication of this type of work (Porter and Bennett, 1981).

Landscape is often described as a typical European theme, which is increasingly studied on a European level. However, there is no journal that focuses on the international dimensions of landscape and heritage. The Journal of European Landscapes fills this gap by stimulating and promoting both empirical research and reflexive thinking on the history and heritage of the landscapes of Europe.

It is important to understand landscapes on this international scale, as policies on landscape and heritage are increasingly influenced by economic interdependence, political integration and the politics of the European Union. Heritage, defined as present uses of the past, connects historical research with the practice of landscape planning and management.
