Zebrafish

ISSN: 1545-8547eISSN: 1557-8542

The only peer-reviewed journal to focus on the zebrafish, which has many valuable features as a model organism for study of vertebrate development. Due to its prolific reproduction and the external development of the transparent embryo, the zebrafish is a prime model for genetic and developmental studies, as well as research in toxicology and genomics. While genetically more distant from humans, the vertebrate zebrafish nevertheless has comparable organs and tissues, such as heart, kidney, pancreas, bones, and cartilage.Demand for zebrafish at National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been fast growing as word spreads that the tiny, black-striped creature makes an excellent supplement and, in some cases, alternative to lab mice for research. Zebrafish also includes research with other aquarium species such as medaka, Fugu, and Xiphophorus.

Journal of Drug Assessment

ISSN: 2155-6660eISSN: 2155-6660
DOAJ Logo

The mission of The Journal of Drug Assessment is to provide ethical, unbiased and rapid publication of quality content that is validated by rigorous peer review. The journal’s aim is to serve the information needs of the clinical medicine/research community and of the public to help facilitate improvements in patient health by facilitating a collaborative and honest approach to publication.

The Journal of Drug Assessment is an open-access, online-only, peer-reviewed journal that publishes a variety of study types from a range of therapeutic areas. We welcome smaller and lesser impact studies, results from trials that have not met their end-points, and studies with confirmatory findings from Phase I–Phase IV trials. The journal’s scope — combined with the transparent and rigorous peer review process — will make certain that papers are accepted based on their scientific merit (i.e., technically sound, well-written, comprehensive reports), not on the novelty or impact of the results. In addition, the rapid publication timeline allows for online publication with 5-7 weeks of submission, whilst always ensuring total transparency of the peer-review process and disclosure of financial and other relevant relationships for all submitted manuscripts.
The Journal of Drug Assessment publishes:
  • Smaller and lesser-impact studies
  • Early trial data
  • Incomplete/inconclusive or controversial trial results
  • Confirmatory studies
  • Updates to previous research
  • Full-length “Original Articles” and meta-analyses reporting the results of Phase I–IV studies on pharmaceutical products and medical devices in all drug classes, therapeutic areas and disease states (including approved and unapproved products, therapeutic diagnostic (theranostic) products, and over-the-counter medicines)
  • “Brief Research Reports” that meet the above criteria and have the same elements as a full-length paper, but are shorter, and provide more concise information in each element, and fewer illustrations
  • Reviews on new and existing drugs, novel study designs, research and pharmacoeconomic outcomes
  • Case studies in clinical practice, involving new and existing drugs
  • Editorials commenting on new developments in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs, new policies, health outcomes and drug manufacturing, and controversial clinical and preclinical findings
  • Letters to the Editor – correspondence to the Editor on previously published work are welcome
The journal will offer a rapid publication timeline (submission to online publication in 5-7 weeks), choice between full-length and abbreviated article formats, total transparency of the peer-review process, and disclosure of financial and other relevant relationships.

Journal of Ethnopharmacology

ISSN: 0378-8741eISSN: 1872-7573

The Journal of Ethnopharmacology is dedicated to the exchange of information and understandings about people's use of plants, fungi, animals, microorganisms and minerals and their biological and pharmacological effects based on the principles established through international conventions. Early people confronted with illness and disease, discovered a wealth of useful therapeutic agents in the plant and animal kingdoms. The empirical knowledge of these medicinal substances and their toxic potential was passed on by oral tradition and sometimes recorded in herbals and other texts on materia medica. Many valuable drugs of today (e.g., atropine, ephedrine, tubocurarine, digoxin, reserpine) came into use through the study of indigenous remedies. Chemists continue to use plant-derived drugs (e.g., morphine, taxol, physostigmine, quinidine, emetine) as prototypes in their attempts to develop more effective and less toxic medicinals. In recent years the preservation of local knowledge, the promotion of indigenous medical systems in primary health care, and the conservation of biodiversity have become even more of a concern to all scientists working at the interface of social and natural sciences but especially to ethnopharmacologists. Recognizing the sovereign rights of States over their natural resources, ethnopharmacologists are particularly concerned with local people's rights to further use and develop their autochthonous resources.Accordingly, today's ethnopharmacological research embraces the multidisciplinary effort in the:• documentation of indigenous medical knowledge,• scientific study of indigenous medicines in order to contribute in the long-run to improved health care in the regions of study, as well as• search for pharmacologically unique principles from existing indigenous remedies. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology publishes original articles concerned with the observation and experimental investigation of the biological activities of plant and animal substances used in the traditional medicine of past and present cultures. The journal will particularly welcome interdisciplinary papers with an ethnopharmacological, an ethnobotanical or an ethnochemical approach to the study of indigenous drugs. Reports of anthropological and ethnobotanical field studies fall within the journal's scope. Studies involving pharmacological and toxicological mechanisms of action are especially welcome. Clinical studies on efficacy will be considered if contributing to the understanding of specific ethnopharmacological problems. The journal welcomes review articles in the above mentioned fields especially those highlighting the multi-disciplinary nature of ethnopharmacology. Commentaries are by invitation only.
