DOAJ Logo

Environmental DNA is a fully double-blinded peer reviewed open access journal. The journal publishes papers that pertain to the analyses of environmental DNA (eDNA) (including ancient DNA, non-invasive sampling, diet analyses, metabarcoding, metagenomics, microbial ecology and pathogens) and address questions of both basic and applied relevance. Research areas (and non-exclusive examples of applications) of interest to Environmental DNA include but are not limited to:

  • Experimental eDNA work: Testing the impact of physico-chemical factors (e.g. natural biogeochemistry and PCR pollutants) on eDNA, degradation, transport, shedding and detection rate, comparing detectionand abundance estimate with conventional methods.
  • Trophic and community ecology: Ecosystem dynamics, functional diversity, predator-prey interactions (e.g. diet analysis), host-associated microbiota.
  • Palaeo-environments: Past species and community diversity and abundance measurements, inference in space and time.
  • Biomonitoring, conservation biology: Single- and multi-species detection, comprehensive biodiversity at different scales, abundance estimates, detection of rare, cryptic and endangered species, non-invasive sampling, management (e.g. fisheries), occurrence and detection estimates.
  • Invasion biology: Early species detection at low abundance, passive surveillance, impacts on ecosystems, vectors and pathways of dispersal.
  • Environmental assessment: Impacts of pollutants and other environmental disturbance on species and communities, microbial source tracking (fecal bacteria or pathogens).
  • Physical eDNA properties: Uptake and transformation based on geochemistry, particles, organic chemistry or microbial community.
  • Techniques and methods: Engineering development, developing, testing and evaluating eDNA biotechnology and biostatistical approaches.
  • Applications in citizen science and biodiversity education

Environmental Development

ISSN: 2211-4645eISSN: 2211-4653

Environmental Development is a transdisciplinary journal for the publication and discussion of peer reviewed, original research on emerging issues and solutions for environmental and ecological problems, and the development of policies for environmental management within the framework of sustainable growth.Environmental Development places special emphasis on the practice and policy implications of research in relation to natural resource management, environmental feedbacks and global change. It also creates a forum for transnational communication, discussion and global action. Environmental Development is devoted to promoting the interaction between natural, social and behavioral sciences, to stimulate comparative, transnational and transboundary research and to close the gap between fundamental research and the knowledge and applications in innovative management and policy practices.Environmental Development particularly encourages young researchers and scientists from developing countries to submit their original research, reviews, communications and commentaries. The journal is open to Thematic Issues addressing exciting topics, as long as these consist of very coherent and high-quality contributions. Please contact the editor-in-chief for further information regarding Thematic Issues: t.a.m.beckers@tilburguniversity.edu.

Environmental Economics and Policy Studies

ISSN: 1432-847XeISSN: 1867-383X

As the official journal of the Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies and the official journal of the East Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics, it provides an international forum for debates among diverse disciplines such as environmental economics, environmental policy studies, and related fields. The main purpose of the journal is twofold: to encourage (1) integration of theoretical studies and policy studies on environmental issues and (2) interdisciplinary works of environmental economics, environmental policy studies, and related fields on environmental issues. The journal also welcomes contributions from any discipline as long as they are consistent with the above stated aims and purposes, and encourages interaction beyond the traditional schools of thought.

Environmental Education Research is an international refereed journal which publishes papers and reports on all aspects of environmental education. The purpose of the journal is to help advance understanding of environmental and sustainability education through a focus on papers reporting research and development activities. The journal also carries more diverse papers including, for example, conference reviews, retrospective analyses of activities in a particular field, critical commentaries on policy issues and comparative aspects of an environmental education issue. The criteria for acceptance of papers are that they are analytical and critical; that the ideas being discussed are transferable to other educational systems and cultures; and that they are accessible to an international audience.
In addition, there will be a review section reinforcing the international nature of the journal by focusing on books, reports and publications in other media which deal with international environmental issues.

Environmental Education Research is also now accepting three new types of articles: Scholarly reviews (extended essays and surveys, of 10-15,000 words), Review essays (on key questions, breakthroughs, developments, events, publications and trends, 3-5,000 words), Review symposia (a group of review essays), and research degree synopses (200-300 words).

Peer Review Policy:
All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous double-blind peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees.

Environmental Evidence

Environmental Evidence facilitates rapid publication of systematic reviews and evidence syntheses on the effectiveness of environmental management interventions and on the impact of human activities on the environment.Environmental management is now a mainstream political activity with major resources being committed to growing challenges related to climate change, natural resources, ecosystem services and human wellbeing. Despite the large and rapidly increasing amounts of primary environmental research, the potential of the data to address questions of concern to policy makers and managers has not been fully realised. The Collaboration for Environmental Evidence (CEE) promotes and facilitates the conduct of systematic reviews and synthesis of evidence, and seeks to make this information more accessible to all.Environmental Evidence facilitates rapid publication of systematic reviews and evidence syntheses on the effectiveness of environmental management interventions and on the impact of human activities on the environment. Objective use of science to inform policy is a major aim and to that end we also publish policy briefs based on systematic reviews and systematic mapping of evidence. We also wish to encourage improvements in evidence synthesis methodology and encourage submissions that promise advances in this field. Our scope covers all forms of environmental management and environmental impacts and therefore spans the natural and social sciences.
