The Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs began in 1940 as the Quarterly Journal of Studies on Alcohol. It was founded by Howard W. Haggard, M.D., director of Yale University’s Laboratory of Applied Physiology. Dr. Haggard was a physiologist studying the effects of alcohol on the body, and he started the Journal as a way to publish the increasing amount of research on alcohol use, abuse, and treatment that emerged from Yale and other institutions in the years following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. In addition to original research, the Journal also published abstracts summarizing other published documents dealing with alcohol. At Yale, Dr. Haggard built a large team of alcohol researchers within the Laboratory of Applied Physiology—including E.M. Jellinek, who became managing editor of the Journal in 1941. In 1943, to bring together the various alcohol research projects conducted by the Laboratory, Dr. Haggard formed the Section of Studies on Alcohol, which also became home to the Journal and its editorial staff. In 1950, the Section was renamed the Center of Alcohol Studies.

The Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment (JSAT) features original research, systematic reviews and reports on meta-analyses and, with editorial approval, special articles on the assessment and treatment of substance use and addictive disorders, including alcohol, illicit and prescription drugs, and nicotine. JSAT values high quality empirical research that is relevant for translation by treatment practitioners from all disciplines and across any setting where persons with substance use problems are encountered. The editors emphasize that JSAT articles should address assessment techniques and treatment approaches that have clear relevance for routine practice. Accordingly, the scope of JSAT includes health services research, including the design, organization, delivery mechanisms and workforce characteristics of treatments in routine settings.It is the policy of JSAT that treatment research for individuals with substance use disorders meet the same scientific evaluative standards as treatments for those with any other health-related condition or illness. Thus, research articles submitted for publication in JSAT are expected to achieve the same empirical standards of reliability, validity, and empiricism. Theoretical models, clinical experience, and case vignettes are recognized as important supplements to, but not as substitutes for, research-based evidence.It is recognized that research-based evidence may take many forms, such as randomized controlled trials; case-controlled field evaluations; or time series evaluations. In early stages of research development, qualitative study or small trials may be appropriate and necessary first steps. Regardless of the specific type of study, authors of research articles should aim to: (1) Use one or more reasonable comparison or control conditions in the design and analysis of collected data, (2) Use data collection methods and measures that have been previously validated in the subject population, and (3) Analyze data (qualitative or quantitative) with the use of appropriate statistical methods.Authors must insure that the research as reported was conducted ethically, and that all protections to human subject participants were afforded. This insurance must be verified by the appropriate institutional review board or committee for the protection of human subjects. In addition, the editors of JSAT will not consider articles that use pejorative and stereotypical expressions when discussing individuals who suffer from substance use disorders.In drawing conclusions, authors are expected to use a parsimonious, cautious and conservative approach in the interpretation of findings. Hyperbole and overgeneralization beyond the data are considered irresponsible.

Journal of Substance Use is a bimonthly international journal, publishing peer-reviewed, up-to-the-minute articles on a wide spectrum of issues relating to the use of legal and illegal substances. The Journal aims to educate, inform, update and act as a forum for standard setting for health and social care professionals working with individuals and families with substance use problems. The Journal of Sulfur Chemistry is an international journal for the dissemination of scientific results in the rapidly expanding realm of sulfur chemistry. The journal publishes high quality reviews, full papers and communications in the following areas: organic and inorganic chemistry, industrial chemistry, materials and polymer chemistry, biological chemistry and interdisciplinary studies directly related to sulfur science.Papers outlining theoretical, physical, mechanistic or synthetic studies pertaining to sulfur chemistry are welcome. Hence the target audience is made up of academic and industrial chemists with peripheral or focused interests in sulfur chemistry. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Journal of Supply Chain Management is to be THE journal of choice among supply chain management scholars across disciplines, by attracting high-quality, high-impact behavioral research focusing on theory building and empirical methodologies. To be suitable… * Extend or test existing theoretical bases in supply management or contribute to theory building in supply management; * Use rigorous methodologies and analyses which address the multiple dimensions of validity; and * Clarify and enhance understanding of the role of various aspects of supply management in the global competitiveness of organizations. CRITERIA FOR PUBLICATION An article published in the Journal of Supply Chain Management must make a strong contribution to supply chain management theory. This contribution can occur through an inductive, theory-building process or a deductive, theory-testing approach, both of which may occur in a variety of ways (for example, falsification of conventional understanding, theory-building through conceptual development or inductive or qualitative research, initial empirical testing of a theory, theoretically based meta analysis or constructive replication that clarifies the boundaries or range of a theory). Manuscripts should explicitly convey the theoretical contribution relative to the existing supply chain management literature and, where appropriate, the existing literature outside of supply chain management (for example, management theory, psychology, economics). Manuscripts published in JSCM must also make strong empirical contributions. While purely conceptual manuscripts are welcomed, these papers must significantly advance theory in the field of supply chain management and need to be strongly grounded in extant theory and relevant literature. For most empirical manuscripts, whether quantitative or qualitative, authors must adequately assess validity, the sine qua non of empirical research. Appropriate research techniques include: * Statistical analysis of survey research, including, but not limited to: * Structural equation modeling; * ANOVA and MANOVA; * Cluster analysis; * Regression analysis. * High-quality case study, structured interview or ethnographic research that is used to augment other empirical data from the same study or is used as the primary methodology to test hypotheses or build grounded theory; * Laboratory and field experiments; * Secondary data analysis, including archival studies, meta analysis and content analysis; * Conceptual theory-building; * Social network analysis; * Other techniques as appropriate. Finally, articles published in JSCM must also have practical relevance, although the editorial team recognizes that relevance to practice might be comparatively indirect for some manuscripts. However, manuscripts that are primarily practitioner-focused and that have managers as their primary audience should be submitted to a practitioner-oriented journal.

The Journal of Surface Investigation spans the field of surface physics, from the preparation of samples, through physical and chemical properties of surfaces, interfaces and nanostructures (including organic and biological materials), to data analysis and interpretation of results. The Journal focuses closely on novel experimental approaches to characterization of surfaces, interfaces and thin films by X-ray, synchrotron and neutron techniques, which are the most suited techniques for structural studies of nanosystems. The Journal publishes original experimental and theoretical articles and reviews on the most current problems of surface phenomena, surface structure, physical and chemical properties, treatment and investigations of surfaces, as well as thin films, interfaces, and more. The Journal also presents special issues and proceedings of Russian and international conferences.

Journal of Surfactants and Detergents, a journal of the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) publishes scientific contributions in the surfactants and detergents area. This includes the basic and applied science of petrochemical and oleochemical surfactants, the development and performance of surfactants in all applications, as well as the development and manufacture of detergent ingredients and their formulation into finished products. Manuscripts involving performance, test method development, analysis, and the environmental fate of surfactants and detergent ingredients are welcome.
