Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict (DAC) is a pioneering interdisciplinary journal that publishes original papers and reviews that contribute to understanding and ameliorating conflicts between states and non-state challengers. These conflicts too often lead to violence, sometimes to the extremes of terrorism or genocide. Understanding the trajectory to violence requires examination of conflicts that do not escalate to violence as well as those that do. This means studying individuals, groups, and movements who challenge the state without violence, as well as those who turn to radicalism and terrorism. Similarly, it is necessary to study state agents, agencies, and policy makers who respond to challenge without violence, as well as those who turn to torture, ethnic cleansing and genocide.It follows from this multi-level and dynamic perspective that every social science is welcome in the journal. Scholars from anthropology, communications, criminology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology and sociology are invited to join in a new subculture that includes policy makers, analysts, and officers of police, military and intelligence services, as well as officers of non-governmental organizations and foundations interested in peace and conflict. DAC aims to support an academic-practitioner community that will learn how to prevent and ameliorate violence between states and non-state challengers.The form of contributions is open, and may include interview reports, case histories, survey research, experiments, text analyses, formal modelling, empirical or theoretical reviews, notes identifying new directions of research needed or in progress, and media reviews.Contributions may be between 1,000-5,000 words; acceptance will be based on value per page such that longer contributions must make larger contributions.Special IssuesThe editors will occasionally invite related papers on a special topic, with the aim of publishing these papers as a special issue of the journal. Early Modern French Studies (formerly Seventeenth-Century French Studies) publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed, original articles in English and French on a broad range of literary, cultural, methodological, and theoretical topics relating to the study of early modern France. The journal has expanded its historical scope and now covers work on the sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries. Educational Studies aims to provide a forum for original investigations and theoretical studies in education. The journal publishes fully refereed papers which cover applied and theoretical approaches to the study of education and its closely related disciplines. Environmental Archaeology: The Journal of Human Palaeoecology aims to publish contributions on all aspects of environmental archaeology, from methodology to synthesis and theory. Environmental Archaeology is an international peer-reviewed periodical which welcomes contributions that consider the interaction between humans and their environment in the archaeological and historical past. This broad scope embraces papers covering a range of environmental specialisms within archaeology, such as archaeobotany, archaeozoology (both vertebrate and invertebrate), palynology, geoarchaeology, biological anthropology, as well as more synthetic and theoretical approaches to the past human environment. Assemblage and site reports are not encouraged unless these can demonstrate significant new insights in environmental archaeology. Epigenetics is a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research and review articles covering the latest findings about epigenetic mechanisms and their role in diverse biological processes.Our goal is to establish Epigenetics as the lead journal in the field by providing a forum where epigenetic approaches to a variety of medical and biological issues can be discussed and the common basic principles of epigenetics spanning different systems can be revealed and shared.The field of epigenetics studies the changes in gene expression that are caused by mechanisms other than the modification of the DNA sequence. Epigenetics covers many different levels of biological control and relates to diverse biological systems, diseases and disciplines. Although in recent years cancer has been the main focus of epigenetic studies, recent data suggests that epigenetics also plays critical roles in psychology and psychopathology. It is being realized that normal behaviors, such as maternal care, and pathologies, such as Schizophrenia and Alzheimer disease, might have an epigenetic basis. It is also becoming clear that nutrition and life experiences have consequences that are mediated by epigenetic mechanisms. The increasing awareness of the potential role of epigenetic deregulation in disease has spawned the development of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches using epigenetics. Although the questions asked are diverse, the unifying hypothesis is that epigenetics is involved. Europe-Asia Studies is the principal academic journal in the world focusing on the history and current political, social and economic affairs of the countries of the former 'communist bloc' of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and Asia. At the same time, the journal explores the economic, political and social transformation of these countries and the changing character of their relationships with the rest of Europe and Asia. From its first publication in 1949, until January 1993, the title of Europe-Asia Studies was Soviet Studies. The Editors' decision to change the title to Europe-Asia Studies followed the collapse of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991. It reflected the belief that countries of the former 'Soviet bloc' would gradually become more closely linked with both Europe and Asia, while continuing to present distinctive topics for research as a consequence of their specific experience. In 2007 the Editors took a further decision to extend the journal's scope to include China and other Asian countries that are or were under communist rule. The European Early Childhood Education Research Journal (EECERJ) is the publication of the European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA), an international organisation dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of research in Early Childhood Education throughout Europe and beyond. CREC is the UK base for the European Early Childhood Research Association. EECERA welcomes and encourages membership and contributions from across the world to share and participate in its European perspective. The most important function of a sport sociological journal like the European Journal for Sport and Society (EJSS) is to enable an international discussion about current issues and to foster collaboration between researchers from all social scientific sub-disciplines.
The EJSS is therefore a platform for multi-thematic sociological reflections on a broad variety of themes, theoretical approaches and empirical methods in sport sociological research. The study of culture is the fastest growing area in both European and North American sociology. Political sociology is also re-establishing itself as a central plank of the discipline. The European Journal of Cultural and Political Sociology aims to be a forum not so much for these fields of study considered separately, as for any work seeking to explore the relationship between culture and politics through a sociological lens. It welcomes, thus, both considerations of cultural phenomena in relation to political context, work that situates political phenomena within a cultural framework, and all points between these poles. In so doing it seeks both to address matters of immediate concern and to recover the broad sociological sensibility that was once a staple of the classical tradition.

ERR Prize for Best Article 2010 Announced The European Romantic Review publishes innovative scholarship on the literature and culture of Europe, Great Britain and the Americas during the period 1760-1840. Topics range from the scientific and psychological interests of German and English authors through the political and social reverberations of the French Revolution to the philosophical and ecological implications of Anglo-American nature writing. Selected papers from the annual conference of the North American Society for the Study of Romanticism appear in one of the six issues published each year. Essays published in ERR will be considered for an annual award co-sponsored by ERR and NASSR. Book reviews are commissioned for two of the six annual issues represent a cross section of concerns in Romantic Era studies and call attention to important new titles and editions from major university and academic presses. The first issue of Exemplaria, with an article by Jacques Le Goff, was published in 1989. Fashion Theory takes as its starting point a definition of ‘fashion’ as the cultural construction of the embodied identity. Forum for Development Studies was established in 1974, and soon became the leading Norwegian journal for development research. While this position has been consolidated, Forum has gradually become an international journal, with its main constituency in the Nordic countries. The journal is owned by the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and the Norwegian Association for Development Research.Forum aims to be a platform for development research broadly defined 8211; including the social sciences, economics, history and law. Its focus is deliberately broad and multi-disciplinary and its first aim is to make the best scholarship on crime available to specialists and non-specialists alike. Global Food History is a peer-reviewed, academic journal with an international scope, presenting new research in food history from the foremost scholars in the field. The journal welcomes original articles covering any period from prehistory to the present and any geographical area, including transnational and world histories of food. Submissions on subjects relating to and from contributors outside of Europe and North America are particularly welcomed. In addition to original research, the journal welcomes articles on teaching food history, archival notes, translations, and other essays that help to build the field by encouraging and disseminating documentation; it will also contain book reviews.
Global Food History aims to encourage a wider recognition of food as not only an important means for studying such traditional scholarly concerns as politics, class, gender, race, and ethnicity, but also an important field in its own right, exploring a vital element of the human experience. As history offers an ideal forum for conversations across the social sciences and humanities, the journal also invites submissions from scholars in allied disciplines who share historians’ concerns with change over time, causation, and periodization. The journal will be of interest to those engaged in the study of the cultural, social and economic history of food.
How can we define intellectual history? At present scholars who call themselves intellectual historians, or who express an interest in intellectual history, can be found working on a variety of topics, such as the history of identity, time and space, empire and race, sex and gender, natural and popular science, the body and its functions, the movements of peoples and the tranmission of ideas, the history of publishing and the history of objects, art history and the history of the book, in addition to the subjects traditionally associated with intellectual history, political theory, political economy and international relations. While Intellectual historians are at the forefront of the current global, transnational, comparative, spatial, visual, and international turns in the historical profession, its definition remains contested. John Burrow, the first person to hold a professorship in the subject in Britain, provided a notable definition of intellectual history as the process of recovering ‘what people in the past meant by the things they said and what these things ‘meant’ to them.’ Burrow warned that it is often the case that ‘academic labels are better thought of as flags of convenience than as names of essences’; but his definition is probably the best we have, as are the metaphors that he employed of the intellectual historian as an eavesdropper upon the conversations of the past, as a translator between the cultures identifiable today and those of the past, and of an explorer studying worlds full of assumptions and beliefs alien to our own.
The fluid identity of intellectual history may explain its success Intellectual history is stronger than ever before at the time of writing. Intellectual historians can be found working in every academy and in every country across a large number of arts faculties. This has led to discussion of the practice of intellectual history in a global age and more particularly to the relationship between intellectual history and global history. David Armitage, for example, has argued that intellectual history is very well placed to deal with the most wide-ranging ideas over long spans of time and across cultures, coining the term ‘a history in ideas’ to describe such labour. Armitage makes the point that the assumption that intellectual historians deal only with specific ideological episodes in narrow and precise contexts is mistaken, as intellectual historians have always been interested in long-term change. At the same time, and as Moyn’s and Sartori’s edited collection Global Intellectual History underlines, intellectual historians can help in tracking the movement of ideas and their dissemination, and the transformation of ideas across borders and cultures. The result must not be a return to the study of those figures alone who have a global reputation, which is to focus on the peaks of the mountain while neglecting the foothills. The historian who has avoided these sins and has written what might be said to be a model for intellectual historians interested in global ideas is John Pocock. His Barbarism and Religion books cover the transmission of ideas across the Roman Empire and their history after the break-up of this empire, entailing the translation of arguments across the gigantic Eurasian land mass and their involvement across the Atlantic world and all the lands encompassing the British Empire at the end of the eighteenth century. Pocock has traversed traditional disciplinary boundaries, recovering lost arguments that crossed nations and continents, seeking to explain what they meant to new generations of people who have been schooled in national or narrower forms of history. It is this broader sense of intellectual history that inspires this new journal.
Intellectual history as a subject has thrived because it gives people the skills to understand an alien persona, the product of cultures and beliefs that are likely to have been altogether at odds with their own. Intellectual historians can learn to appreciate the different values held by societies whose modes of living may clash with our own, and realise that the rationales of such values are explicable. Above all, intellectual history teaches prudence, a sense of the alternative futures articulated by historical actors, the transmission mechanisms they developed to realise those futures, and the limits upon their capacity to improve and sometimes to protect their worlds. Given the lack of disciplinary or geographical boundaries to the subject of intellectual history as traditionally practised, it is right to create a journal that encourages exactly these virtues on a global scale.
This journal encourages submissions that cross disciplinary boundaries, that are comparative and transnational, that are concerned with long-term ideological movements and significant turning points in the history of ideas, with the relationship between nations and cultures and continents, and from ancient to modern times.

Global Society covers the new agenda in global and international relations and encourages innovative approaches to the study of global and international issues from a range of disciplines. It promotes the analysis of transactions at multiple levels, and in particular, the way in which these transactions blur the distinction between the sub-national, national, transnational, international and global levels. An ever integrating global society raises a number of issues for global and international relations which do not fit comfortably within established 8216;Paradigms'. Among these are the international and global consequences of nationalism and struggles for identity, migration, racism, religious fundamentalism, terrorism and criminal activities, famines, genocides, the spread of contagious disease and pestilence, and environmental degradation. It is now widely perceived that the formerly dominant ahistorical perspectives within anthropology severely restricted interpretation and analysis. Much recent work has therefore been concerned with social change and colonial history and the traditional problems such as symbolism, have been rethought in historical terms. History and Anthropology publishes articles which develop these concerns, and is particularly interested in linking new substantive analyses with critical perspectives on anthropological discourse. The journal publishes studies of: economic, religious and linguistic change; European and non-European colonial systems; transformations of art and material culture; gender in history and culture; encounters with and images of 'others'; the influences of anthropological representations upon indigenous consciousness and culture; the various contributions of anthropology to colonial practice; and the development of ethnological and anthropological ideals and investigative techniques. The editor therefore welcomes regional and thematic studies oriented towards wider analytic or critical issues. In the modern era, it becomes central to our understanding of the making and transformation of societies and cultures, on a local or transnational scale. History of European Ideas is devoted to the intellectual history of Europe from the Renaissance onwards. It is interdisciplinary in that it aims to publish papers on the history of ideas in a number of different fields: political and economic thought, philosophy, natural philosophy and science, theology and literature. Treatments of the history of ideas which cut across these categories or which trace connections between them in different European countries are particularly welcome. Proposals for special issues devoted to historical themes or to proceedings of conferences are also encouraged.
