Digital Applications in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage

eISSN: 2212-0548

Digital Applications in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (DAACH) is an on-line, peer-reviewed journal in which scholars can publish 3D digital models of the world's cultural heritage sites, monuments, and palaeoanthropological remains accompanied by associated academic articles. The journal aims both to preserve digital cultural heritage models and to provide access to them for the scholarly community to facilitate the academic debate. DAACH offers scholars the opportunity of publishing their models online with full interactivity so that users can explore them at will. It is unique in that its focus is on the application of 3D modeling to cultural heritage. DAACH will provide full peer-review for all 3D models, not just the text, 2D renderings or video fly-throughs, and requires all models to be accompanied by metadata, documentation, and a related article, explaining the history of the subject and its state of preservation, as well as an account of the modeling project itself. The journal focuses on scholarship that either promotes the application of 3D technologies to the fields of archaeology, art and architectural history, and palaeoanthropology or uses 3D technology to make a significant contribution to the study of built structures, works of art or palaeoanthropological remains.Digital Applications in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage will also consider papers dealing with processing of digital data acquired by geophysical prospection in archaeological sites (eg applications of 3D or 2D mapping of buried monuments), digital signals from luminescence measurements, multispectral imaging techniques and processing of atomic force microscopic data applied to archaeomaterials. The provision of a 3D model is not compulsory for an article to be published in this journal.

While this may not amount to a formal 'code of conduct', these fundamental principles with respect to the authors' paper are that the paper should: i) be the authors' own original work, which has not been previously published elsewhere, ii) reflect the authors' own research and analysis and do so in a truthful and complete manner, iii) properly credit the meaningful contributions of co-authors and co-researchers, iv) not be submitted to more than one journal for consideration, and v) be appropriately placed in the context of prior and existing research. Of equal importance are ethical guidelines dealing with research methods and research funding, including issues dealing with informed consent, research subject privacy rights, conflicts of interest, and sources of funding. While it may not be possible to draft a 'code' that applies adequately to all instances and circumstances, we believe it useful to outline our expectations of authors and procedures that the Journal will employ in the event of questions concerning author conduct. With respect to conflicts of interest, the Publisher now requires authors to declare any conflicts of interest that relate to papers accepted for publication in this Journal. A conflict of interest may exist when an author or the author's institution has a financial or other relationship with other people or organizations that may inappropriately influence the author's work. A conflict can be actual or potential and full disclosure to the Journal is the safest course. All submissions to the Journal must include disclosure of all relationships that could be viewed as presenting a potential conflict of interest. The Journal may use such information as a basis for editorial decisions and may publish such disclosures if they are believed to be important to readers in judging the manuscript. A decision may be made by the Journal not to publish on the basis of the declared conflict. For more information, please refer to: http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/authorshome.authors/conflictsofinterestSubmission to Drug Discovery Today is by invitation only. Drug and Alcohol Dependence

ISSN: 0376-8716

Drug and Alcohol Dependence is an international journal devoted to publishing original research, scholarly reviews, commentaries, and policy analyses in the area of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and dependence. Articles range from studies of the chemistry of substances of abuse, their actions at molecular and cellular sites, in vitro and in vivo investigations of their biochemical, pharmacological and behavioural actions, laboratory-based and clinical research in humans, substance abuse treatment and prevention research, and studies employing methods from epidemiology, sociology, and economics. The rationale for this extensive coverage is the conviction that drug, alcohol and tobacco use/dependence cannot be understood in their entirety from a single perspective and that without an understanding of other areas of research, studies by individual investigators may be limited. The goal of the journal is to provide researchers, clinicians, and policy makers access to material from all perspectives in a single journal in a format that is understandable and which has received rigorous editorial review. The hope of its editors is to promote mutual understanding of the many facets of drug abuse to the benefit of all investigators involved in drug and alcohol research, and to facilitate the transfer of scientific findings to successful treatment and prevention practices. The accepted abbreviation for Drug and Alcohol Dependence for bibliographic citation is Drug Alcohol Depend.Drug and Alcohol Dependence is currently being distributed to all the members of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD), the oldest scientific organization in the United States concerned with research on problems of drug dependence. Members of the CPDD are provided with both the print version as well as access to the full text of the current issue and back issues dating back to Vol. 46, Issue no. 1 of the online version as a benefit of membership.

Dyes and Pigments

ISSN: 0143-7208eISSN: 1873-3743

Dyes and Pigments covers the scientific and technical aspects of the chemistry and physics of dyes, pigments and their intermediates. Emphasis is placed on the properties of the colouring matters themselves rather than on their applications or the system in which they may be applied. Thus the journal accepts research and review papers on the synthesis of dyes, pigments and intermediates, their physical or chemical properties, e.g. spectroscopic, surface, solution or solid state characteristics, the physical aspects of their preparation, e.g. precipitation, nucleation and growth, crystal formation, liquid crystalline characteristics, their photochemical, ecological or biological properties and the relationship between colour and chemical constitution. However, papers are considered which deal with the more fundamental aspects of colourant application and of the interactions of colourants with substrates or media. The journal will interest a wide variety of workers in a range of disciplines whose work involves dyes, pigments and their intermediates, and provides a platform for investigators with common interests but diverse fields of activity such as cosmetics, reprographics, dye and pigment synthesis, medical research, polymers, etc.Contact: Please feel free to contact us for any comments, questions or feedback. In addition, we are always interested in any publication proposals for books, electronic products, new journals and co-operation for existing journals.

Earth-Science Reviews

ISSN: 0012-8252eISSN: 1872-6828
Covering a much wider field than the usual specialist journals, Earth Science Reviews publishes review articles dealing with all aspects of Earth Sciences, and is an important vehicle for allowing readers to see their particular interest related to the Earth Sciences as a whole. Our readership is more diverse than that of specialist journals: as well as research scientists, also students, government agencies involved in programme support and management and in environmental assessment and control, private industries concerned with planetary resources, and the independent consultant. The journal's vision includes ensuring accessibility for all of these groups.

Every review article published will advance existing knowledge and highlight new directions being taken at the forefront of expanding subject areas by synthesis, evaluation and discussion of previously published literature. The value of such articles to the readership is increased with comment and opinion provided by the author from a specific context. Authors may further enhance their article with the addition of supplementary material such as videos, datasets and applications.

Articles may be extensive, providing comprehensive coverage of a relatively broad or cross-disciplinary subject area, or they may be much shorter providing an in-depth overview of a very specific topic, and authors may choose to include a proportion of their own primary research data to support their arguments. From time to time, 'Invited Earth-Science Reviews' will be published about topics of exceptional interest.

Other styles of 'review' article will be considered; these include critical reviews of methods used in the geosciences, case studies which illustrate and provide critical review of concepts of global significance, and articles that use previously published literature as a basis to develop aspects of industrial or social policy relevant to the earth sciences.

Submissions that simply aggregate previous literature and do not build on current awareness, or those that are structured like a primary research paper, are unlikely to be accepted for publication. Authors of primary research articles are encouraged to submit their work to a subject-appropriate journal, rather than to Earth-Science Reviews.

Earth Science Reviews offers authors the rare opportunity to explore a particular subject without any limitation on the number of words used. We encourage authors to adopt a writing style which balances conciseness with the need to do justice to their chosen subject. Therefore, authors of review articles in excess of around 20,000 words should first discuss their idea by email with one of the journal editors, copied to Tim Horscroft, the Review Papers Coordinator, (timothy.horscroft@elsevier.com), to ensure the project's suitability for potential publication.

Eating Behaviors

ISSN: 1471-0153eISSN: 1873-7358

Eating Behaviors is an international peer-reviewed scientific journal publishing human research on the etiology, prevention, and treatment of obesity, binge eating, and eating disorders in adults and children. Studies related to the promotion of healthy eating patterns to treat or prevent medical conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cancer) are also acceptable. Two types of manuscripts are encouraged: (1) Descriptive studies establishing functional relationships between eating behaviors and social, cognitive, environmental, attitudinal, emotional or biochemical factors; (2) Clinical outcome research evaluating the efficacy of prevention or treatment protocols. While theoretical orientations are diverse, the emphasis of the journal is primarily empirical. That is, sound experimental design combined with valid, reliable assessment and evaluation procedures are a requisite for acceptance. Uncontrolled clinical demonstrations and case studies are not accepted for publication. A limited number of reviews are published.

Ecohydrology & Hydrobiology is an international journal that aims to advance ecohydrology as the study of the interplay between ecological and hydrological processes from molecular to river basin scales, and to promote its implementation as an integrative management tool to harmonize societal needs with biosphere potential.Water is a major driver of biogeochemical evolution and hence of biodiversity and biological productivity (e.g., food production). In human-modified, degraded systems, therefore, regulation of ecohydrological processes is the most relevant way for achieving sustainability. An essential component of ecohydrology is a rigorous understanding of hydrobiology, from ecosystem properties, dynamics and functions to modelling of abiotic and biotic interactions in relation to their hydrological determinants at the basin scale. The journal will publish high-quality science aimed at increasing the understanding of water – biota interplay and exploring how this knowledge can be used to regulate hydrological and biogeochemical processes to enhance the carrying capacity, especially of anthropogenically modified ecosystems. Research addressing one or several of the following issues will be of prime interest to the journal if it:Leads to new insights into the interactions of water, nutrient and pollutant cycles with biotic components of ecosystems;Employs this understanding for developing ecosystem biotechnologies and system solutions;Identifies possibilities to integrate engineering infrastructure with ecohydrological biotechnologies into system solutions at the catchment scale;Translates transdisciplinary knowledge into decision-support tools;Targets biodiversity, quality and quantity of water resources, ecosystem processes and functioning (including environmental flows), ecosystem services and/or ecosystem resilience as necessary components for enhanced carrying capacity; Is policy-oriented and, within the scope of the journal, addresses the priorities and objectives of international initiatives such as the Millennium Development Goals and UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme.

Ecological Economics

ISSN: 0921-8009

The journal is concerned with extending and integrating the study and management of nature's household (ecology) and humankind's household (economics). This integration is necessary because conceptual and professional isolation have led to economic and environmental policies which are mutually destructive rather than reinforcing in the long term. The journal is transdisciplinary in spirit and methodologically open.Specific research areas covered include: valuation of natural resources, sustainable agriculture and development, ecologically integrated technology, integrated ecologic-economic modelling at scales from local to regional to global, implications of thermodynamics for economics and ecology, renewable resource management and conservation, critical assessments of the basic assumptions underlying current economic and ecological paradigms and the implications of alternative assumptions, economic and ecological consequences of genetically engineered organisms, and gene pool inventory and management, alternative principles for valuing natural wealth, integrating natural resources and environmental services into national income and wealth accounts, methods of implementing efficient environmental policies, case studies of economic-ecologic conflict or harmony, etc. New issues in this area are rapidly emerging and will find a ready forum in Ecological Economics.Ecological Economics SectionsAll submissions to Ecological Economics are reviewed using the general criteria of quality, creativity, originality, accuracy, and contribution to the field. Ecological Engineering

ISSN: 0925-8574eISSN: 1872-6992

The journal is meant for ecologists who, because of their research interests or occupation, are involved in designing, monitoring, or constructing ecosystems. It is meant to serve as a bridge between ecologists and engineers, as ecotechnology is not wholly defined by either field. The journal will be read and contributed to by applied ecologists, environmental scientists and managers and regulators, natural resource specialists (e.g. foresters, fish and wildlife specialists), environmental and civil engineers, agroecologists, and landscape planners and designers. The journal is also for engineers who, as a result of training and/or experience in biological and/or ecological sciences, are involved in designing and building ecosystems. The journal is of particular interest to practising environmental managers due to its multidisciplinary approach to practical problems and opportunities.Ecological engineering has been defined as the design of ecosystems for the mutual benefit of humans and nature. Specific topics covered in the journal include: ecotechnology; synthetic ecology; bioengineering; sustainable agroecology; habitat reconstruction; restoration ecology; ecosystem conservation; ecosystem rehabilitation; stream and river restoration; wetland restoration and construction; reclamation ecology; non-renewable resource conservation. Applications of ecological engineering (or ecotechnology) include wetland creation and restoration, pollution control by ecosystems, restoration and rehabilitation of forests, grasslands, lakes, reservoirs and rivers, and development of sustainable agroecosystems.Because ecological engineering is based on the premise of conserving both renewable and non-renewable resources by using both in partnership, the journal will also be pertinent to those involved in global climate change, alternative energy policies, ecological economics, environmental conservation, and global geopolitics. The journal welcomes full papers, short communications, comments, letters to the Editor, and will publish review articles upon invitation.Papers will be published in the English language. The journal will not levy page charges and the corresponding author, at no cost, will be provided with a PDF file of the article via e-mail.All papers will be subject to peer review and they will be dealt with as speedily as is compatible with a high standard of presentation.

Ecological Modelling

ISSN: 0304-3800eISSN: 1872-7026

The journal is concerned with the use of mathematical models and systems analysis for the description of ecological processes and for the sustainable management of resources. Human activity and well-being are dependent on and integrated with the functioning of ecosystems and the services they provide. We aim to understand these basic ecosystem functions using mathematical and conceptual modelling, systems analysis, thermodynamics, computer simulations, and ecological theory. This leads to a preference for process-based models embedded in theory with explicit causative agents as opposed to strictly statistical or correlative descriptions. These modelling methods can be applied to a wide spectrum of issues ranging from basic ecology to human ecology to socio-ecological systems. The journal welcomes research articles, short communications, review articles, letters to the editor, book reviews, and other communications. The journal also supports the activities of the International Society of Ecological Modelling (ISEM).Benefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. Economia UNAM

Economía UNAM is an academic publication which is embracing a number of significant ideas that are surrounding the theory and practice of the economic science from different perspectives. The sum of these frame of minds are expected to contribute with the spreading of original intellectual developments and also with the analysis of both the domestic and international economic atmosphere. Moreover, these points of view are aiming to feed those arguments related with the decision making process as well as to achieve an influence over the economic policy. Nevertheless, this publishing is going on beyond the Academy by considering even more segments of research and analysis which are not necessarily related within this environment, as long as they accomplished with the scientific and argumentative rigorousness requisites along with the introduction of contemporary topics and subjects of general interest.

Aims
• To increase the influence and renown of the National University, as well as the stature of the School of Economic Science, the Institute of Economic Science Research, ENEP Aragón and ENEP Acatlán.
• To inform and to provide with a guideline to the society about the national and international economic atmosphere.
• To provide to the University with a stronger position in the discussion about the economic development in Mexico and, in general terms, in the discussion about the socio-economic realities of the country and the world.
• To disseminate the research and contributions of both the social scientists of the National University and those from other academic institutions, organisms and entities belonging either to the public or private sector in the country, or those coming from overseas.
• To spread the theoretical, empirical or even reflexive contributions of the National University to other Universities or Academic Institutions in Mexico and overseas. Even more, to propagate these contributions into a number of non academic sectors such as organisations, public and private entities in the country or abroad, and in general to those who are following the socioeconomic environment and the designers of the economic policies.
• To encourage the dialogue between the social scientists of the National University with those from other Institutions from Mexico and abroad. To promote a bigger and wider affiliation of both academics and specialists to Economía UNAM.

Economic Analysis and Policy

eISSN: 2204-2296
Economic Analysis and Policy publishes articles from all branches of economics. It features contributions that have policy relevance, both theoretical and applied. EAP particularly seeks to publish passionate, critical, and controversial articles. It is open for orthodox but also unorthodox approaches.

The journal has three main sections. They are:

  • Policy Debates and Controversies
This section will contain highly policy relevant articles that are of general interest to economists. We will strive to obtain opposing views on current topics.
  • Recent Trends in Economic Research
This section will contain research articles from all fields of economics, similar to those published in other general interest economics journals, such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Economic Journal, or the Economic Record. These articles will not necessarily be easily accessible to non-academic economists. We expect authors to provide the main insights in a non-technical introduction and in the conclusions.
  • Comments and Discussions of Past and Present Contributions to Economics
This section has two aims. On the one hand it is a platform to critically discuss recent contributions to the economic literature. This section will contain contributions that revalidate econometric articles and/or discuss the importance of recent findings in economics. On the other hand, it will contain a critical appreciation of classic contributions to the economic literature. We will invite original authors as well as scholars that work in the field to review the importance of classic contributions to modern economics.

Economic Systems

ISSN: 0939-3625

Economic Systems is a refereed journal for the analysis of causes and consequences of the significant institutional variety prevailing among all developed, developing, emerging, and transition economies, as well as attempts at and proposals for their reform. The journal is open to micro and macro contributions, theoretical as well as empirical, the latter to analyze related topics against the background of country or region-specific experiences. This is to reflect the respective new orientation within the field of comparative economics: decades of development and transition experience in many countries have clearly demonstrated the importance of institutions and institutional change for the functioning of markets and the ways in which policies influence economic activity in general and economic growth in particular. However, we believe that institutional development is only one of the important factors in affecting domestic and global economies.Hence, Economic Systems strongly encourages submissions from all other fields, covering, but not limited to, a variety of aspects of financial and economic systems and development, including private and state banking; goods and services and financial markets; macro and micro policies and their effects; and global trade issues and exchange rate systems in all developed, developing, emerging, and transition economies. We are particularly interested in empirical papers with significant policy implications.

Submission fee Economics Letters handles a submission fee of EUR 50 (reduced 30) USD 65 (40) Yen 6000 (4000). The reduced prices are for students. Submissions will only be considered after payment of the submission fee via SubmissionStart. After you submit your manuscript, you will receive an email regarding how to transfer your payment. The submission fee is non-refundable and a paper may be rejected by the Editors without being sent for review, should a paper be inconsistent with the Aims and Scope of the Journal as set out on the Journal website, or not adhere to the style requirements as outlined in the Guide for Authors. The submission fees are used to support journal related activities.Economics Letters aims to be a valuable addition to the specialist literature, offering quick dissemination and easy accessibility of new results, models and methods in all fields of economic research. All researchers are welcome to submit their articles to Economics Letters, and especially young researchers and advanced graduate students are encouraged to submit their articles. The "letter" format consists of concise communications, which are a vehicle to quickly communicate important pieces of new research. For instance, a theorist could submit to Economics Letters a thought-provoking example before the analysis is extended to a general theorem in a fully fledged paper that will go elsewhere. Similarly, an experimentalist or an empirical researcher could submit to Economics Letters some important preliminary results, where perhaps the threshold for robustness, thoroughness or completeness of the analysis is not as high as it would be for a complete paper. Comments or pedagogical notes are not suitable for transmission in this form. The following are important features of the "letter" format:Concise: Contributions are usually limited to 2,000 words (12 manuscript pages), allowing readers to determine their potential interest in a letter very quickly, and to digest a large amount of material in a usable form.Rapid: The fast review process and immediate online publication ensure a brief manuscript turnover time.Efficient: A quick way to stay up-to-date with developments in all areas of economics.Every submission to Economics Letters will be subject to a careful peer-review process. With few exceptions, in which submissions are sent back for small editorial revisions before acceptance, each paper will be either accepted as is or rejected. Detailed reports will not be provided; the reasons for the decision will be explained in a brief cover letter from the editor. Economics Letters aims to have a quick turnover time of up to two months between the submission and final decision.Economics Letters and Elsevier uphold the highest standards of academic integrity. Therefore, instances of plagiarism, fabricating or results, and other examples of ethics breach, when properly confirmed, are taken very seriously. The journal imposes a number of sanctions, which include, but are not limited to, a five-year submission ban, and notification to the author's department chair or relevant supervisor.

Energy Research and Social Science

eISSN: 2214-6296

Energy Research & Social Science (ERSS) is a peer-reviewed international journal that publishes original research and review articles examining the relationship between energy systems and society. ERSS covers a range of topics revolving around the intersection of energy technologies, fuels, and resources on one side; and social processes and influences - including communities of energy users, people affected by energy production, social institutions, customs, traditions, behaviors, and policies - on the other. Put another way, ERSS investigates the social system surrounding energy technology and hardware. ERSS is of relevance for energy practitioners, researchers interested in the social aspects of energy production or use, and policymakers.

Energy Research & Social Science (ERSS) provides an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of how social and technical issues related to both energy production and consumption interact. Energy production, distribution, and consumption all have both technical and human components, and the latter involve the human causes and consequences of energy-related activities and processes as well as social structures that shape how people interact with energy systems. Energy analysis therefore needs to look beyond the dimensions of technology and economics to include these social and human elements.

The journal's authorship is therefore not restricted to any discipline, but it is restricted in terms of quality and subject matter-articles are accepted based on merit, and their focus on the intersection of human activity (at whatever level of analysis) and energy systems (at whatever level of analysis). The editors emphasize that cross cultural, comparative, mixed-methods research is especially encouraged, and discourage submission of single-country case studies and/or studies that rely only on one method in isolation. Authors of single country studies, if submitted, must demonstrate that they have situated their study in the broader context and have highlighted the significance of their study. In addition, studies that utilize primarily engineering methods and econometric models must primarily focus on the "social" side of energy use and clearly meet the aims and scope of the journal.

Disciplinarily, submissions are thus welcome from all fields of inquiry since the editors recognize that in many cases high quality research may not fit into any predetermined category. Moreover, the journal will not exclude any energy source, technology, system, topic, or energy service from the scope of its articles.

Readers are actively encouraged to peruse past issues of ERSS to connect their piece to wider themes and discussions in the journal, especially the inaugural special issue available http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/22146296/1here.

Types of Articles

The journal publishes four types of articles:
• Original research articles (generally between 6,000 and 10,000 words, including references)
• Short communications and letters (generally 1,000 to 3,000 words)
• Review essays (8,000 to 12,000 words)
• Book reviews (1,000 to 2,000 words per book reviewed, longer review essays of multiple books are permitted)

Peer-review

Articles submitted to the journal will undergo two levels of review. First, the editor(s) will screen them to determine their appropriateness to the aims and scope of the journal, as well as to gauge their methodological rigor and their quality of English writing.
Second, if articles pass the editorial screening, they will undergo rigorous peer review by anonymised referees (double blind review). Generally, articles can receive one of five decisions:

  • Accept: accepts the paper as is with no further review, the paper proceeds to proofing
  • Accept with minor revisions: accepts the paper as long as the author responds adequately to reviewer/editor comments, the paper proceeds to editorial review with no peer re-review (editor reserves the right to send it to peer review)
  • Revise: provides no guarantee that a paper will be accepted but it has a second chance, the paper proceeds to editorial review always followed by peer re-review
  • Reject: rejects a paper (after peer-review) with no chance for re-review, authors are not invited to revise and resubmit the manuscript; submission in current state is not suitable for the journal
  • Reject - out of scope: rejects a paper (after editorial-review) with no chance for re-review, authors are not invited to revise and resubmit the manuscript; submission in current state is not suitable for the journal.

To assist with the advancement of the journal, all authors of accepted articles in ERSS may be requested to review at least one article in the area of their expertise.
