Palynology

ISSN: 0191-6122eISSN: 1558-9188

Palynology is an international journal, and covers all aspects of the science. We accept papers on both pre-Quaternary and Quaternary palynology and palaeobotany. Contributions on novel uses of palynology, review articles, book reviews, taxonomic studies and papers on methodology are all actively encouraged. The AASP Newsletter is available at http://www.palynology.org/pub.html#nl The image used in the cover of Palynology was obtained using the following process: 1. Fresh pollen from anthers were processed using acetolysis 2. infiltrated with 2,2'-thiodiethanol (TDE), a mounting medium for high-resolution microscopy 3. A 3-D image stack was acquired using an Olympus FV1000 laser scanning confocal microscope with a 100x/1.4 oil immersion objective (Excitation 488 nm, emission 500-600nm) 4. Imported the entire confocal stack into Osiri X 3D medical imaging software running on an iMac with 4GB of RAM. 5. Selected every fifth slice in the stack for rendering, in order to fit the stacks into the 4GB memory limit addressable by a 32-bit operating system 6. Perform 3D rendering using a color map optimized for bones and soft tissue 7. Adjusted the color map and transparency, in order to show both the exterior surface textures and the interior wall structures Work for this image was performed by Vaughn M. Bryant, Stanislav Vitha, and Amen Zwa Disclaimer The Palynological Society and Taylor & Francis make every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the 'Content') contained in its publications. Peace Review: A Journal of Social Justice

ISSN: 1040-2659eISSN: 1469-9982

Peace Review is a quarterly, multidisciplinary, transnational journal of research and analysis, focusing on the current issues and controversies that underlie the promotion of a more peaceful world. Social progress requires, among other things, sustained intellectual work, which should be pragmatic as well as analytical. The results of that work should be ingrained into everyday culture and political discourse. We define peace research very broadly to include peace, human rights, development, ecology, culture and related issues. The task of the journal is to present the results of this research and thinking in short, accessible and substantive essays. Each issue develops a particular theme, however, we run both on-theme and off-theme essays.Project Censored Award Winner 2000For the year 2000, Peace Review was awarded Project Censored's Top 25 Most Censored Stories for not merely one, but two of its essays. Both articles were rated in the Top 14 Stories, both of which appeared in the June 1999 issue:Ramsay Liem, "Famine in North Korea" and Yuh Ji-Yeon, "Dangerous Communists, Inscrutable Orientals, Starving Masses"Project Censored is a US media group, which for more than 20 years has been trying to highlight important national and international news stories that have either been ignored or intentionally marginalized in the mainstream media. For more information on Project Censored visit their website: www.projectcensored.org.Peer Review Policy:All review papers in this journal have undergone editorial screening and peer review.
