Fish Physiology and Biochemistry is an international journal publishing original research papers in all aspects of the physiology and biochemistry of fishes. Coverage includes experimental work in such topics as biochemistry of organisms, organs, tissues and cells; structure of organs, tissues, cells and organelles related to their function; nutritional, osmotic, ionic, respiratory and excretory homeostasis; nerve and muscle physiology; endocrinology; reproductive physiology; energetics; biochemical and physiological effects of toxicants; molecular biology and biotechnology and more. The journal presents full papers, brief communications, rapid communications, unsolicited and invited reviews and editorial comments and announcements.
Fish and Fisheries adopts a broad, interdisciplinary approach to the subject of fish biology and fisheries. It draws contributions in the form of major synoptic papers and syntheses or meta-analyses that lay out new approaches, re-examine existing findings, methods or theory, and discuss papers and commentaries from diverse areas. Focal areas include fish palaeontology, molecular biology and ecology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, ecology, behaviour, evolutionary studies, conservation, assessment, population dynamics, mathematical modelling, ecosystem analysis and the social, economic and policy aspects of fisheries where they are grounded in a scientific approach. A paper in Fish and Fisheries must draw upon all key elements of the existing literature on a topic, normally have a broad geographic and/or taxonomic scope, and provide general points which make it compelling to a wide range of readers whatever their geographical location. So, in short, we aim to publish articles that make syntheses of old or synoptic, long-term or spatially widespread data, introduce or consolidate fresh concepts or theory, or, in the Ghoti section, briefly justify preliminary, new synoptic ideas. Please note that authors of submissions not meeting this mandate will be directed to the appropriate primary literature.
Database coverage includes Biological Abstracts (BIOSIS); Current Contents; SciSearch and Research Alert. Science Citation Index and Focus on: Veterinary Science and Medicine.

Recognized as a leading journal in its field, Fisheries Science is internationally respected for its publication of basic and applied research articles in a broad range of subject areas relevant to fisheries science. It has a long tradition of publishing quality papers in such important topics as Fisheries, Biology, Aquaculture, Environment, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Food Science and Technology. Each volume includes an average of more than 180 peer-reviewed articles. Fisheries Science is the official journal of the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science.
The quarterly Fishery Bulletin (FB) is the oldest and one of the finest fisheries journals in the world. It has been an official publication of the U.S. Government since 1881, under various titles, and is the U.S. counterpart to other highly regarded governmental fisheries science publications. The journal features both articles that reflect original research and interpretative articles for all interdisciplinary fields that bear on marine fisheries and marine mammal science.Manuscripts submitted for publication in the Fishery Bulletin undergo peer review by senior scientists within and outside the government. The NMFS Scientific Editor, a scientist affiliated with one of the NMFS Science Centers who serves for a three-year period, is responsible for conducting the peer reviews and for accepting or rejecting manuscripts.
The Journal publishes STANDARD RESEARCH PAPERS on all aspects of the ecology of inland waters, including rivers and lakes, connected ground waters, flood plains and other wetlands. We accept studies of micro-organisms, algae, macrophytes, invertebrates, fish and other vertebrates, as well as those concerning whole ecosystems and related physical and chemical aspects of the environment. Studies may focus at any level in the ecological hierarchy from physiological ecology and animal behaviour, through population dynamics and evolutionary genetics, to community interactions and ecosystem functioning. They may also be at any scale, from microhabitat to landscape or biogeography. Preference is given to research, whether meta-analytical, experimental, theoretical or descriptive, that tests clearly stated hypotheses.
Fundamental and Applied Limnology is an international journal for freshwater research in the widest sense, including problems of marine biology and brackish water research. Papers dealing with ecological topics are especially welcome in association with experimental or physiological studies. All papers published in this journal are subject to peer review.Archiv für Hydrobiologie, now Fundamental and Applied Limnology has been published continuously since 1906. .
This journal provides a forum to promote knowledge of harmful microalgae and macroalgae, including cyanobacteria, as well as monitoring, management and control of these organisms. Both original research and review papers will be considered.Papers dealing with the following aspects of harmful microalgae and cyanobacteria in marine and fresh waters will be considered:• The distribution, life histories and taxonomy of harmful microalgae;• The physiology and toxicology of harmful microalgae;• Harmful microalgal bloom ecology;• Trophic, socio-economic, public health and aquacultural impacts of harmful microalgal bloom events;• Occurrence, methods of detection and chemical structure of toxins in harmful microalgae, cyanobacteria, foodwebs and seafood;• Factors controlling toxin production, biosynthesis and chemical ecology.Note: Papers dealing with pharmacology fall outside of the scope of the journal. All papers will be subject to peer review. Authors will receive proofs. The editors, referees, and publisher will make every effort to expedite publication, the co-operation of authors in this task is welcomed.Cover picture by Joe Hlebica, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Multi-Media Group
The journal Helgoland Marine Research publishes original research papers, invited reviews, and commentary on all aspects and levels of the biology of marine and brackish water organisms. Helgoland Marine Research is sponsored by the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research. Among the topics of particular interest are explorations of ecological dynamics, life cycles, biological oceanography, environmental biology, physiology and behavior, morphology, evolution and taxonomy, cultivation and techniques and more. The Editor-in-Chief is Heinz-Dieter Franke, Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Helgoland, Germany.
Hydrobiologia publishes original research, reviews and opinions investigating the biology of all aquatic environments, including the impact of human activities. Coverage includes molecular-, organism-, community -and ecosystem-level studies dealing with limnology and oceanography, including systematics and aquatic ecology. In addition to hypothesis-driven experimental research, it presents theoretical papers relevant to a broad hydrobiological audience. The Editor-in-Chief is Koen Martens, Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, Brussels. The Honorary Editor-in-Chief is Henri J.Dumont, University of Ghent, Institute of Animal Ecology, Belgium.
New Special Issues online:This journal contains translations from the premier Russian and Eastern European periodicals in aquatic biology and aquatic ecosystems, supplemented by original articles from elsewhere. The journal publishes in the area of physiology, biochemistry, systematics, ecology and conservation of freshwater fish, invertebrates, vascular plants, zoo- and phytoplankton, as well as freshwater quality and toxicology. While most of the papers deal with inland waters, the journal also publishes articles reporting on expeditionary work, especially the Antarctic and tropical seas. Hydrobiological Journal is valuable to freshwater and marine biologists and chemists, limnologists, environmental scientists, oceanographers, and toxicologists.
The ICES Journal of Marine Science publishes articles, short communications, and critical reviews that contribute to our scientific understanding of marine systems and the impact of human activities. The Journal serves as a foundation for scientific advice across the broad spectrum of management and conservation issues related to the marine environment. Oceanography, marine habitats, living resources, and related management topics constitute the key elements of papers eligible for publication. Integrated studies that bridge gaps between traditional disciplines are particularly welcome. The scope of the Journal has been broadened to include economic, social, and public administration studies to the extent that they are directly related to management of the seas and are of general interest to marine scientists.
