Acta Neurologica Scandinavica aims to publish manuscripts of a high scientific quality representing original clinical, diagnostic or experimental work in neuroscience. The journla's scope is to act as an international forum for the dissemination of information advancing the science or practice of this subject area. Papers in English will be welcomed, especially those which bring new knowledge and observations from the application of therapies or techniques in the combating of a broad spectrum of neurological disease and neurodegenerative disorders. Relevant articles on the basic neurosciences will be published where they extend present understanding of such disorders. Priority will be given to review of topical subjects. Papers requiring rapid publication because of their significance and timeliness will be included as 'Clinical commentaries' not exceeding two printed pages, as will 'Clinical commentaries' of sufficient general interest. Debate within the speciality is encouraged in the form of 'Letters to the editor'. All submitted manuscripts falling within the overall scope of the journal will be assessed by suitably qualified referees. Submit your manuscript online.

As the average human life expectancy has increased, so too has the impact of ageing and age-related disease on our society. Ageing research is now the focus of thousands of laboratories that include leaders in the areas of genetics, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and behaviour. Ageing Research Reviews (ARR) covers the trends in this field. It is designed to fill a large void, namely, a source for critical reviews and viewpoints on emerging findings on mechanisms of ageing and age-related disease. Rapid advances in understanding of mechanisms that control cellular proliferation, differentiation and survival are leading to new insight into the regulation of ageing. From telomerase to stem cells to energy and oxyradical metabolism, this is an exciting new era in the multidisciplinary field of ageing research. The cellular and molecular underpinnings of manipulations that extend lifespan, such as caloric restriction, are being identified and novel approaches for preventing age-related diseases are being developed. ARR publishes articles on focussed topics selected from the broad field of ageing research, with an emphasis on cellular and molecular mechanisms of the aging process and age-related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders. Alcohol is an international, peer-reviewed journal that is devoted to publishing multi-disciplinary biomedical research on all aspects of the actions or effects of alcohol on the nervous system or on other organ systems. Emphasis is given to studies into the causes and consequences of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, and biomedical aspects of diagnosis, etiology, treatment or prevention of alcohol-related health effects.

Alzheimer's Research & Therapy is the major forum for translational research into Alzheimer's disease. An international peer-reviewed journal, it publishes open access basic research with a translational focus, as well as clinical trials, research into drug discovery and development, and epidemiologic studies. The journal also provides reviews, viewpoints, commentaries, debates and reports. Although the primary focus is Alzheimer's dementia, the scope encompasses translational research into other neurodegenerative diseases.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Degeneration is an exciting new initiative. It represents a timely expansion of the journal Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in response to the clinical, imaging pathological and genetic overlap between ALS and frontotemporal dementia. The expanded journal provides outstanding coverage of research in a wide range of issues related to motor neuron diseases, especially ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and cognitive decline associated with frontotemporal degeneration. The journal also covers related disorders of the neuroaxis when relevant to these core conditions. The Editorial Board comprises key opinion leaders in ALS and FTD. Topics featured include: • NIH or government news • Changes in academic neurology around the country • New medically important discoveries • Biographies • Interviews • Coverage of educational issues Discoveries in Neuroscience highlights recent and important discoveries in basic neuroscience, and the implications of these findings for the Annals readership. The section will provide a brief synopsis of important publications selected by the editors from the general neuroscience literature. Advances in the understanding of genes, molecules, pathways, and systems that control fundamental nervous system functions will be highlighted, with an emphasis on those that are particularly significant, novel, or relevant to human disease. Open Forum provides a home for letters that respond to published articles in Annals (or elsewhere). Medical Hypotheses, the new feature, provides a forum for novel hypotheses. The editors encourage authors who wish to submit reviews or hypotheses to contact the editorial office in advance of submission. Reviews, currently published as Neurological Progress, have been extremely well received by the readership in the past. The editors plan to increase the number of Neurological Progress articles by striving for at least one overview article of this type each month.

Aphasiology is concerned with all aspects of language impairment and disability and related disorders resulting from brain damage. It provides a forum for the exchange of knowledge and the dissemination of current research and expertise in all aspects of aphasia and related topics, from all disciplinary perspectives. Aphasiology includes papers on clinical, psychological, linguistic, social and neurological perspectives of aphasia. Studies using a wide range of empirical methods, including experimental, clinical and single case studies, surveys and physical investigations are published in addition to regular features including major reviews, clinical fora, case studies, and book reviews.

Basal Ganglia focuses on all scientific aspects related to diseases of basal ganglia, especially movement disorders. It aims to connect medical researchers and clinicians in the field of neurology as well as other related fields. The journal will be an international platform for researchers and clinicians, publishing articles in English language after a thorough peer-review process.Submissions covering the following research areas are welcome for publication: basic research such as anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnostics and therapy, as well as all clinical aspects dealing with movement disorders or diseases of basal ganglia.Basal Ganglia focuses primarily on original research articles. These may cover randomized controlled studies, other clinical studies, observational and epidemiological studies and outcome research studies. In addition, the journal will feature state-of-the-art reviews, current opinion pieces and case reports.

Behavioural Neurology publishes original experimental papers and case reports dealing with disordered human behaviour and exceptional animal studies that have direct implications for understanding human behaviour or neural mechanisms of cognition. These embrace the field of cognitive neurology, biological psychiatry, neuropsychology, rehabilitation, and cognitive neuroscience. The emphasis of the approach is on lesion and imaging studies that explore abnormal human cognition and behaviour. The journal embraces matters of interest to clinicians, such as behavioural neurologists and neuropsychiatrists, and cognitive neuroscientists, neuropsychologists, neuropathologists, neurochemists, therapists, psychopharmacologists and metabolic scientists with a special interest in human neurological disorders. All papers are refereed. Reviews of an area of the literature, and commentaries in areas of current interest, will also be considered for publication. Reviews and commentaries in areas outside behavioural neurology, but of interest and importance to behavioural neurologists, will also be considered. A Clinical Notes section has been added for brief reports of clinical observations that may have important implications for understanding cognitive disorders. Behavioural Neurology also publishes Book Reviews and Short Communications.

Brain Imaging and Behavior is a quarterly, peer-reviewed journal that publishes clinically relevant research using neuroimaging approaches to enhance our understanding of disorders of higher brain function. The journal is targeted at clinicians and researchers in fields concerned with human brain-behavior relationships, such as neuropsychology, psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, and cognitive neuroscience. Brain Topography publishes clinical and basic research on cognitive neuroscience and functional neurophysiology using the full range of imaging techniques including EEG, MEG, fMRI, TMS, diffusion imaging, spectroscopy, intracranial recordings, lesion studies, and related methods. Submissions combining multiple techniques are particularly encouraged, as well as reports of new and innovative methodologies. Brain Topography is also an appropriate venue for case/clinical studies from one or a cohort of patients/subjects that provide insights into the neural basis of a psychiatric or neurological impairment and/or the efficacy of a novel therapy. Such studies should be of sufficiently broad interest to both clinical and basic researchers. Examinations of the function of a specific brain region or regions in patients or animal models would also be appropriate, provided that they demonstrate clear relevance and applicability to humans.
