Comedy Studies

ISSN: 2040-610XeISSN: 2040-6118

‘The Comic is merely an umbrella under which all other disciplines can be accommodated.’

Comedy Studies reflects the increasingly cross-disciplinary and international nature of studies into comedy and documents exciting and innovative research into this hitherto under-represented field. Comedy Studies is the only globally accessible journal that provides a forum for research in comedy studies, and its relation to other disciplines: theatre/ performance, film, TV, art, music, philosophy, sociology, psychology, media, science, cultural studies, gender studies, science and history are all discussed in the journal’s research. Comedy Studies is a dynamic, innovative academic journal, that discusses the all aspects of comedy and we are always looking for new contributors and collaborators.

Comedy Studies publishes full length articles (up to 6,000 words) and will always consider contributions from Ph.D. candidates to help increase their research profiles. The journal also publishes interviews, reviews, original art work, photography and illustrations. We will also consider guest editors, special editions of conference papers and conference ideas.

The purpose of the journal is to foster a better understanding of journalism, media studies, and mass communication as research areas in the comparative context of Africa and the Global South, and to build links between these academic fields and the media professions. The journal's focus is on Africa, but its academic interest and scope is transnational.Articles dealing with the intersections between journalism, politics, culture and society in Africa are especially invited. Areas of focus may include, but are not limited to: theories of news and news representation; journalism education and research; journalism and globalization; development journalism and social change; journalism ethics; constructions of gender, 'race' and ethnicity in the news; journalism and new media; journalism and regulation; journalism and politics; and the relationship between journalism, culture and society. Comparative studies of journalism in other regions of the South that have an explicit bearing on African journalism will also be considered. Although its focus is on journalism studies, the journal's comparative and interdisciplinary approach is informed by the related fields of cultural and media studies, communication studies, African studies, politics, and sociology. The journal is therefore also likely to be of interest to scholars working in these fields.Research approachEcquid Novi: African Journalism Studies publishes articles from all theoretical perspectives and research approaches. However, there is a trend towards publishing more critical and analytical articles, especially when these approaches are informed by comparative perspectives on cultural, political or socio-economic issues related to journalism.Peer Review Policy Research articles in Ecquid Novi: African Journalism Studies are subjected to rigorous editorial and double blind external peer review.
