The Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics is a peer reviewed journal covering all aspects of the graphic novel, comic strip and comic book, with the emphasis on comics in their cultural, institutional and creative contexts. Its scope is international, covering not only English language comics but also worldwide comic culture. The journal reflects interdisciplinary research in comics and aims to establish a dialogue between academics, historians, theoreticians and practitioners of comics. It therefore examines the production and consumption of comics within the contexts of culture: art, cinema, television and new media technologies. The journal will include all forms of 'sequential imagery' including precursors of the comic but the main emphasis will be on twentieth and twenty-first century examples, reflecting the increasing interest in the modern forms of the comic, its production and cultural consumption. In the first stage, at least one editor must decide that a paper should go to a reviewer. The number of submissions to the JCF has increased dramatically and we do not have the resources in terms of the editor's and, most importantly, reviewer's time to review all papers. If a paper passes the first stage, the paper is sent to at least one reviewer for detailed comments. We would like to help authors improve their papers, even if they will not be published, but we are severely limited in that role by resource constraints. Empirical work that replicates earlier work for a new sample (or new international data) is generally not publishable unless the sample allows important new insights. The International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control aims to encourage the development of analysis and design techniques for uncertain linear and nonlinear systems. Papers will be particularly welcome that demonstrate the potential for nonlinear or robust controllers in applications through either design studies or real applications experience. The physical modelling, simulation and identification of systems that may be uncertain, or include significant nonlinearities, is of interest. Suitable topics include the use of hybrid or LPV models, multivariable systems and the simplification of models for control design. Papers on the control of large scale or distributed parameter systems are welcome, particularly concentrating on robustness and/or nonlinear issues. Papers are also welcome in the area of feedback design for asymptotic model following and, in general, for coordinated control of multi-agent systems, including consensus and synchronization. The main focus of the journal is on the theory and design of regulating and tracking control systems, but related areas such as linear and nonlinear filtering, condition monitoring and fault estimation are included. The Journal provides a natural forum for papers on the theory and application of robust control design and estimation techniques, including H8 or H2 design, multi-objective optimization and variable structure, or sliding mode control design methods. Papers will also be welcome on methods of improving the robustness of uncertain, or parameter varying systems, using QFT design methods. Papers on linear model based predictive control and algorithms for constrained optimization are encouraged. All aspects of the theory and techniques used in nonlinear control and estimation are also included ranging from gain scheduling to nonlinear predictive control. The development of nonlinear compensation and design methods, such as those using feedback linearization, adaptive back-stepping, exploitation and/or re-design of zero dynamics, Lyapunov based techniques, nonlinear H8 design and iterative learning control, are all of interest. Contributions on numerical algorithms for robust control, using for example linear matrix inequalities, and the problems of real time implementation are also included. Cooperative control, agent based systems, controller tuning and problems of implementation are covered. Modelling and control techniques using neural networks will also be considered. Model based design approaches are encouraged rather than heuristic or rule based design methods, such as fuzzy control.

Übersichtsarbeiten behandeln aktuelle Fragestellungen der Inneren Medizin mit intensiv- und notfallmedizinischem Schwerpunkt. Frei eingereichte Originalien präsentieren wichtige Studien des Fachgebietes und fördern den wissenschaftlichen Austausch. Kasuistiken zeigen interessante Fallbeispiele und ungewöhnliche Krankheits- bzw. Behandlungsverläufe. Medizinische Klinik – Intensivmedizin und Notfallmedizin is an internationally respected interdisciplinary journal. It is intended mainly for physicians active in intensive care and accident/emergency units, but also for internists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, neurologists, and pediatricians with special interest in intensive care medicine.
Comprehensive reviews describe the most recent advances in the field of internal medicine with special focus on intensive care problems. Freely submitted original articles present important studies in this discipline and promote scientific exchange, while case reports feature, interesting cases and aim at optimizing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. In the rubric journal club well-respected experts comment on outstanding international publications. Review articles under the rubric 'Continuing Medical Education' present verified results of scientific research and their integration into daily practice.

Ocean & Coastal Management is an international journal published 12 times per year dedicated to the study of all aspects of ocean and coastal management at international, national, regional, and local levels.Sustainable development and conservation of ocean and coastal resources requires the insights of a number of monodisciplinary, multidisciplinary as well as integral studies and approaches. The Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade publishes research on industry, competition and trade policy. It investigates the microeconomic foundation of industrial strategy, innovation, competition, and trade policy and it concentrates on the functioning of product markets (goods and services). Despite the growing interest in theoretical economic policy, the gap between theory and real life remains a wide one. Many new economic theories and models have been developed, few of them are screened for policy conclusion and most of them are not motivated to answer questions raised by real world problems, industrial strategies or policy issues. Game theoretical models have increased our understanding of the sources of and obstacles to innovation, of the working of markets and of strategic interactions. Models also explain how institutions, consumers and firms interact, how they shape their environment and how incentives influence behaviour. The missing link has been the failure to adequately confront these theoretical findings with empirical facts. The even larger gap between theory and its application in economic policy will be addressed by the Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade. It serves as a forum for dialogue between economists from academia and (national or international) policy circles, and between theory and practice. The journal focuses on two transmission processes: It promotes confronting theories with facts and will encourage facts to influence the model building. It focuses on policy conclusions from the applied theoretical research and will promote policy questions to be investigated by researchers. In addition to the Editorial Board, the journal has a Policy Board in which economists currently working in government, competition policy authorities, and international organizations (European Commission, OECD, WTO, Department of Justice, etc.) facilitate the transmission proces, s between academia and economic policy. The Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade publishes original material in the areas of trade, competition and industrial policy. Articles aim to build bridges between theory, empirical work and policy application. Theoretical articles without explicit empirical implications will not be accepted, nor will descriptions of institutions and policy measures, which do not relate to theoretical models. Each volume will contain four invited surveys and approximately ten submitted papers. Two of the invited surveys (thirty pages) will be written by academics, two by economists in institutions. Neotropical Biodiversity is an open-access, international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research articles and reviews of exceptional significance for biodiversity within the Neotropics. The journal covers all scales of biodiversity, including molecules, genes, populations, species, and ecosystems. General areas include, but are not restricted to, the following: anatomy, biogeography, computational biology, evolutionary developmental biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, conservation biology, ecology, evolution, landscape genomics, phylogenetic, paleontology, population biology, and taxonomy.

The main criteria for acceptance of reviews and research papers are originality, scientific rigour and appeal to an international readership.   Neotropical Biodiversity also publishes occasional monographs that clearly represent substantial contributions in a particular field. All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double blind.

Representation is a journal of long standing repute. It has been publishing since 1960 and has a general interest in all matters relating to the theme of representative democracy and to this end it has established itself as a recognised journal of record and comment both in the UK and internationally. While building on its present strengths, the new editors wish to expand the journal's remit and introduce more normative concepts of democracy and representation, to consider more than parliamentary versions of representation and to broaden the geographic scope of the journal. This change in scope follows two paths. Firstly, it seeks contributors who are interested in exploring the interface between democratic practice and theory. In particular, this focus seeks contributions that apply theoretical insights to actual examples of current practice. Some examples of areas where theoretical discussions could make a significant contribution to the actual current practices are debates within topics such as: (i) overcoming the democratic deficit, (ii) ensuring adequate representation for women and minorities in liberal democratic pluralist societies, (iii) finding ways of modernising elections, and (iv) voter education and (v) debating the need, extent and plausibility of democratic institutions at a trans-national, or even global, level. Secondly, while not neglecting the current focus of the journal, we would like to expand its international coverage so that the journal will offer our readers insights in the state of democracy worldwide. We hope that the widening of the journal's scope will bring with it a new set of readers and especially those working on the interface between theory and practice. Representation will offer a place for debates and scholarship, both empirical and normative, on democrat practices around the world. The introduction of the theoretical dimension does not preclude a focus on empirical studies of non-electoral forms of representation and decision-making. Indeed, it is just these areas where we believe a theoretical input would be valuable. As in the past, the new editors of Representation are interested in furthering links with national and international groups involved in the study of elections, representation and voting systems and will continue to publish high quality papers on elections, institutions and electoral systems. In Current Opinion in Plant Biology, we help the reader by providing in a systematic manner:1. The views of experts on current advances in plant biology in a clear and readable form. 2. They divide their section into a number of topics, ensuring that the field is comprehensively covered and that all issues of current importance are emphasised. Section Editors commission reviews from authorities on each topic that they have selected.Reviews: Authors write short review articles in which they present recent developments in their subject, emphasising the aspects that, in their opinion, are most important. In addition, they provide short annotations to the papers that they consider to be most interesting from all those published in their topic over the previous year.Editorial Overview: Section Editors write a short overview at the beginning of the section to introduce the reviews and to draw the reader's attention to any particularly interesting developments.Ethics in Publishing - General Statement: The Editor(s) and Publisher of this Journal believe that there are fundamental principles underlying scholarly or professional publishing. Visual Cognition publishes new empirical research that increases theoretical understanding of human visual cognition. Studies may be concerned with any aspect of visual cognition such as object, face, and scene recognition; visual attention and search; short-term and long-term visual memory; visual word recognition and reading; eye movement control and active vision; and visual imagery. The journal is devoted to research at the interface of visual perception and cognition and does not typically publish papers in areas of perception or psychophysics that are covered by the many publication outlets for those topics. The typical study will use behavioral methods, but reports clearly motivated by theoretical issues in visual cognition that use alternative populations or methods such as neuroimaging (e.g., fMRI, ERP, MEG) or modeling (computational or mathematical) are also encouraged.Articles take two forms. Full Articles typically involve multiple experiments and a relatively in-depth discussion of the theoretical implications of the work. There are no length restrictions though authors should strive for brevity. Brief Articles report new and unexpected empirical findings of broad interest and will be favored for novelty of approach or method. Manuscripts submitted as Brief Articles will receive a simple accept or reject disposition in the shortest possible time, and when accepted will receive priority for publication. Brief Articles have a maximum of 3000 words including abstract, notes, captions, and appendices, but excluding bibliography. The bibliography for a Brief Article should not exceed 30 references, and figures and tables should be used sparingly. Internal and Emergency Medicine (IEM) is an independent, international, English-language, peer-reviewed journal designed for internists and emergency physicians. IEM publishes a variety of manuscript types including Original investigations, Review articles, Letters to the Editor, Editorials and Commentaries. Occasionally IEM accepts unsolicited Reviews, Commentaries or Editorials. The journal is divided into three sections, i.e., Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Clinical Evidence and Health Technology Assessment, with three separate editorial boards. In the Internal Medicine section, invited Case records and Physical examinations, devoted to underlining the role of a clinical approach in selected clinical cases, are also published. The Emergency Medicine section will include a Morbidity and Mortality Report and an Airway Forum concerning the management of difficult airway problems. This journal advances the knowledge and practice of community well-being as an interdisciplinary broad conception of human and societal well-being. The focus is predominately on communities of place and interest within geographic or societal spaces concerning social, economic, cultural/social, environmental or political conditions and impacts on societal and social well-being. It provides an outlet for excellent scholarship from a multitude of disciplines - including but not limited to community development, geography, urban and regional planning, economic development, public administration, regional studies, sociology, community learning and education, psychology and health – concerned with community well-being that promotes understanding of its multidimensional aspects. The journal publishes research that combines community well-being addressing issues facing our towns, cities and regions. It explores the collective aspects of communities and regions and how individual well-being is related to the context of societal well-being.

The Journal publishes original refereed papers, review papers and correspondence in the fields of skin and cosmetic research. It is read by practising cosmetic scientists and dermatologists, as well as specialists in more diverse disciplines that are developing new products which contact the skin. The aim of the Journal is to present current scientific research, both pure and applied, in: cosmetics, toiletries, perfumery and allied fields.
