The editor takes the bulk of the financial risks of publishing. The profits go mainly to the broadcaster and distributor of books, which are responsible, to canvass the booksellers and take their orders as well as routing the books to bookstores, to fill orders taken. These operations cost the publisher between 50 and 60% of turnover generated by the book. The rest of sales goes to the author (about 10% share of this figure much lower, around 6% for comic books, and can reach 20% or more for best sellers) and the publisher, who can pay, in addition to its employees (editorial assistants, press officers, charged with manufacture, designer, etc..), the entire work of the book (printers, proofreaders, freelance photographers, possibly librarians, etc.. ). Since its launch in 1970, the Irish University Review has sought to foster and publish the best scholarly research and critical debate in Irish literary and cultural studies. The first issue contained contributions by Austin Clarke, John Montague, Sean O'Faolain, and Conor Cruise O'Brien, among others. Today, the journal publishes the best literary and cultural criticism by established and emerging scholars in Irish Studies. It is published twice annually, in the Spring and Autumn of each year. The journal is based in University College Dublin, where it was founded in 1970 by Professor Maurice Harmon, who edited the journal from 1970 to 1987. It has subsequently been edited by Professor Christopher Murray (1987-1997), Professor Anthony Roche (1997-2002), and Professor Anne Fogarty (2002-2009). It is supported by an international editorial board and editorial advisory board, and draws its authors, subscribers and readers from all around the world.

Island Arc provides an opportunity for the prompt, international and high-standard publication of research from all fields of solid earth geosciences. Papers which discuss the interaction between the solid earth, atmosphere, and water bodies are also welcome. The journal has a particularly good track record in publishing results of studies related to convergent plate margins and to the Pacific and Asian regions. The Journal publishes peer-reviewed articles and reviews. Original scientific articles, of a maximum length of 15 printed pages, are published promptly with a standard publication time from submission of 8 months. Articles describing new and important results are given priority and will be published a minimum of 4 months after submission. All articles are peer reviewed by at least two researchers expert in the field of the submitted paper.

JAMA Surgery (formerly Archives of Surgery), which began publication in 1920, is an international peer-reviewed journal. JAMA Surgery is the official publication of the Association of VA Surgeons, the Pacific Coast Surgical Association, and the Surgical Outcomes Club and is a member of The JAMA Network family of journals, which includes JAMA and 11 specialty journals.

JAMA Surgery is published online weekly, every Wednesday, and in print/online issues 12 times a year. The journal receives approximately more than 1 million online visits annually, with 2 million article views and downloads. Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 12 months after publication on the JAMA website. All articles are made free access on an html app called The JAMA Network Reader on the day of publication. The main purpose of the Gazette is to provide a place for the publication of high-quality papers documenting recent advances and new developments in both pediatrics and pediatric surgery in clinical and experimental settings.

An equally important purpose of the Gazette is to publish local and regional issues related to children and child care.

The Gazette welcomes original papers, review articles, case reports and short communications as well as short technical reports.

Estuaries and Coasts is the journal of the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation. It publishes original research on the hydrodynamics, hydrology, (geo)chemistry, geology, biology and their interactions in marine waters influenced by connectivity to land. The journal's geographic scope includes coastal watersheds, tidal rivers, estuaries, lagoons, inland seas, wetlands, and near-shore coastal waters from polar to equatorial latitudes.
