European Economic Review
Established in 1969, European Economic Review is one of the oldest general-interest economics journals for all of Europe. It is intended as a primary publication for theoretical and empirical research in all areas of economics. The purpose of the journal is to select articles that will have high relevance and impact in a wide range of topics. All work submitted to the journal should be original in motivation or modeling and be capable of replication.The EER receives about 700 submissions each year and the editors aim to hand down editorial decision in a timely manner. The average turnaround time to first decision is about 90 days, with an approximate acceptance rate of 10%. To avoid unnecessary delays, a paper may be returned to the author before full review if the editors determine that it is not suitable for the journal. This decision is made in the interest of the author to avoid loss of valuable time. Please note that in all cases the submission fee is non-refundable. The journal provides a medium for rapid publication of investigations of the molecular biology and biochemistry of parasitic protozoa and helminths and their interactions with both the definitive and intermediate host. The goal of Computational Materials Science is to report on results that provide new or unique insights into, or significantly expand our understanding of, the properties of materials or phenomena associated with their design, synthesis, processing, characterization, and utilization.Papers that report on modern materials modeling are of interest, including quantum chemical methods, density functional theory, semi-empirical and classical approaches, statistical mechanics, atomic-scale simulations, mesoscale modeling, phase-field techniques, and finite element methods. Not all topics that potentially fall under the category of computational materials science are appropriate for the journal. The Journal of Financial Intermediation seeks to publish research in the broad areas of financial intermediation, investment banking, corporate finance, financial contracting, risk management and credit markets.Editorial PhilosophyThe new Editorial Board of the Journal of Financial Intermediation seeks to streamline the editorial process by implementing an active desk-rejection policy. We anticipate that a significant fraction of papers will be rejected without a detailed reviewing process. In this way, papers going out for reviews have a significant chance of eventually being published. While the policy is meant to minimize the burden on reviewers, submitters should expect their papers to receive a more thorough treatment in the editorial process, conditional on being refereed. Desk-rejected articles will be refunded a significant portion of the submission fee.Reducing noise and increasing transparency of the refereeing process is an overarching goal of the new editorial policy. In this vein, the JFI is simplifying its editorial board structure and expanding the board of associate editors. Submitters may now expect their papers to be reviewed almost exclusively by members of the editorial board, or by researchers whose expertise is at par with that of members of the board. At the same time, the submission process is now single-blind, implying that author identity will not be hidden. Submitters may choose the Managing Editor in charge of their submission. The Journal of Human Evolution concentrates on publishing the highest quality papers covering all aspects of human evolution. The central focus is aimed jointly at palaeoanthropological work, covering human and primate fossils, and at comparative studies of living species, including both morphological and molecular evidence. The purpose of the International Journal of Educational Development is to foster critical debate about the role that education plays in development. IJED seeks both to develop new theoretical insights into the education-development relationship and new understandings of the extent and nature of educational change in diverse settings. It stresses the importance of understanding the interplay of local, national, regional and global contexts and dynamics in shaping education and development.Orthodox notions of development as being about growth, industrialisation or poverty reduction are increasingly questioned. There are competing accounts that stress the human dimensions of development. The notion of development itself is highly contested, both as a theoretical construct and in its policy and programme manifestations. Education is prominent in approaches to and critiques of development. Here too perspectives vary. Education is expected to promote competitiveness and productivity; reduce inequality, poverty and disease; mitigate conflict and crisis; and promote human capability and achieve social justice. At the same time, education is also criticised for fostering hostility; entrenching difference; jeopardising local values and culture; and for its own use of control and violence.The International Journal of Educational Development is concerned with education in its broadest sense, including informal and non-formal modes, and skills development. IJED is primarily interested in studies that are focused on lower and middle income settings. It also considers papers that look at the relationship between education and development in other contexts or at the role that developed countries play in education and development through their policies and practices of aid and trade.The International Journal of Educational Development welcomes papers from all prospective authors and especially from scholars who come from low and middle income countries.
