Marine Pollution Bulletin

ISSN: 0025-326XeISSN: 1879-3363

Marine Pollution Bulletin is concerned with the rational use of maritime and marine resources in estuaries, the seas and oceans, as well as with documenting marine pollution and introducing new forms of measurement and analysis. A wide range of topics are discussed as news, comment, reviews and research reports, not only on effluent disposal and pollution control, but also on the management, economic aspects and protection of the marine environment in general.A distinctive feature of Marine Pollution Bulletin is the number of different categories of articles which are published. Papers ('Reports') form the core of the journal, while 'Baselines' document measurements which are expected to have value in the future. 'Reviews' are generally invited by the editors on subjects which cross traditional lines, but suggestions for topics are welcomed. 'Viewpoints' are a less formal forum for scientists to comment freely on matters of relevant national and international importance. Other sections of the Bulletin include 'News', 'New Products', 'Conference Reports', 'Conference Diary', 'Correspondence' and 'Book Reviews'. Two volumes are published annually, one of which contains a series of special issues on topics of particular current interest. The importance and influence of these special issues, which address the major marine environmental concerns of our time, is increasingly being recognised not just by the wider scientific community, but also by environmental policy makers at national and international level.Benefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science aims to advance the science and philosophy of human-centered design. The journal focuses on a broad array of theoretical issues, methodology, and philosophical dialogues within the science of human factors and ergonomics, and is a highly respected forum for interdisciplinary discussion within this field, cutting across the design, engineering, technology, and management of human-compatible systems in the broadest sense. The Journal is proactive in its mission to develop a unique discipline, and seeks to define and promote theories of ergonomics as distinct and inherently valuable for the global knowledge community, including human factors scientists and engineers, ergonomists, industrial designers, industrial engineers, systems engineers, design engineers, cognitive and organizational psychologists, occupational health specialists and human-computer interaction specialists.Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science emphasizes new knowledge, publishing original, high-quality, peer-reviewed papers as well as commissioned reviews and peer-reviewed commentaries. Topics include both qualitative and quantitative methodological frameworks and theories of ergonomics. The Journal presents papers that discuss principles of the investigative process in ergonomics research, social and historical issues, and science of science perspectives on ergonomics. Papers that examine the discipline itself, including bibliographical analyses of classic papers, are also published.Unlike other ergonomics journals that deal primarily with applications, Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science focuses on theoretical aspects of the science, such as causality and the underlying aspects of behaviour in a complex human-technology-environment systems sense. Above all, the Journal provides a vehicle for the dissemination of research on the underpinning scientific foundation of the discipline of ergonomics that no other publication covers. It creates the opportunity to consider the newest approaches of associated domains and to implant them in work system design. Authors are encouraged to discuss extensive and coherent theories that stimulate future empirical and modelling research within the ergonomics discipline.

Visual Resources

ISSN: 0197-3762eISSN: 1477-2809

Special Issue - A Tribute to Helene E. Roberts 'Second Hand Images': On Art's Surrogate Means and Media - Part I: The Art Press and Photography Visual Resources: An International Journal of Documentation is devoted to the study of images and their uses. While images of architecture and works of art constitute its main focus, it also includes other subjects and contexts in a wide range of formats. Its scope delves into the past and looks toward the future, revealing how images have influenced the perception of art and how the interpretation of images conditions and enhances academic disciplines such as archaeology, history, and particularly art and architectural history. Visual Resources explores how visual language is structured and visual meaning communicated and also illustrates how picture collections are acquired, organized, indexed, and preserved. VR examines early attempts to document the visual, reports on the state of visual resources, assesses the effect of electronic technology on current and future uses, and provides a platform for reporting innovative ways to organize and access visual information - while aiming to increase the recognition and appreciation of visual documentation. Over the years, VR has published articles about verbal descriptions of art and architecture; copies, casts, and facsimiles; drawings, paintings, and prints; photography; library, archive, and museum collections; iconography; and computers and electronic imagery - and how these have functioned as documents of art and culture. Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics

ISSN: 1364-6826eISSN: 1879-1824
The Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics (JASTP) first appeared in print in 1951, at the very start of what is termed the "Space Age". The first papers grappled with such novel subjects as the Earth's ionosphere and photographic studies of the aurora. Since that early, seminal work, the Journal has continuously evolved and expanded its scope in concert with - and in support of - the exciting evolution of a dynamic, rapidly growing field of scientific endeavour: the Earth and Space Sciences. At its Golden Anniversary, the now re-named Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics (JASTP) continues its development as the premier international journal dedicated to the physics of the Earth's atmospheric and space environment, especially the highly varied and highly variable physical phenomena that occur in this natural laboratory and the processes that couple them.

The Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics is an international journal concerned with the inter-disciplinary science of the Sun-Earth connection, defined very broadly. The journal referees and publishes original research papers, using rigorous standards of review, and focusing on the following:

  • The results of experiments and their interpretations, and results of theoretical or modelling studies;
  • Papers dealing with remote sensing carried out from the ground or space and with in situ studies made from rockets or from satellites orbiting the Earth;

and,

  • Plans for future research, often carried out within programs of international scope.

The Journal also encourages papers involving:

  • Large scale collaborations, especially those with an international perspective;
  • Rapid communications;
  • Papers dealing with novel techniques or methodologies;
  • Commissioned review papers on topical subjects and tutorial reviews;

and,

  • Special issues arising from chosen scientific symposia or workshops.

The journal covers the physical processes operating in the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, ionosphere, magnetosphere, the Sun, interplanetary medium, and heliosphere. Phenomena occurring in other "spheres", solar influences on climate, and supporting laboratory measurements are also considered. The journal deals especially with the coupling between the different regions.

Solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and other energetic events on the Sun create interesting and important perturbations in the near-Earth space environment. The physics of this subject, now termed "space weather", is central to the Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics and the journal welcomes papers that lead in the direction of a predictive understanding of the coupled system. Regarding the upper atmosphere, the subjects of aeronomy, geomagnetism and geoelectricity, auroral phenomena, radio wave propagation, and plasma instabilities, are examples within the broad field of solar-terrestrial physics which emphasise the energy exchange between the solar wind, the magnetospheric and ionospheric plasmas, and the neutral gas. In the lower atmosphere, topics covered range from mesoscale to global scale dynamics, to atmospheric electricity, lightning and its effects, and to anthropogenic changes. Helpful, novel schematic diagrams are encouraged. Short animations and ancillary data sets can also be accommodated. Prospective authors should review the Instructions to Authors at the back of each issue.
