The Journal of Dance Education publishes original articles on topics related to the practical and theoretical aspects associated with dance education. Articles considered for publication in the journal should emphasize professional issues concerned with all aspects of teaching dance and dance education. JODE aims to present new knowledge and rigorous scholarship about perennial and current issues in order to improve the quality and integrity of dance teaching and learning.

JODE seeks contributions from a broad range of international researchers, scholars and practitioners using a variety of research frameworks and methods. Submissions, scholarly or practical, may be submitted in three categories:  Feature Articles, In Practice Articles, and Student Readings, which are all described in the Instructions for Authors (see link below.) Types of topics within the journal include but are not limited to: training of dancers, curriculum, pedagogy, teaching methodology, best practices, standards, assessment, dance administration, collaboration, creativity, dance advocacy, social justice issues, historical and cultural contexts, choreography, technology, online learning, dancers with different abilities, and integrated and interdisciplinary dance studies.

Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles published under CCBY, or use them for any other lawful purpose, as long as proper attribution is given.    Articles published under CCBY-NC-ND are also available to users under the same conditions as CCBY, but the reuse cannot be for commercial purposes or change the work in any way. 

Open access is provided through the payment of an article processing charge (APC) paid after acceptance. APCs are often financed by an author's institution or the funder supporting their research.

The articles in this journal are peer reviewed in accordance with the requirements set forth in the IEEE PSPB Operations Manual (sections 8.2.1.C & 8.2.2.A). Each published article was reviewed by a minimum of two independent reviewers using a single-blind peer review process, where the identities of the reviewers are not known to the authors, but the reviewers know the identities of the authors. Articles will be screened for plagiarism before acceptance.

Corresponding authors from low-income countries are eligible for waived or reduced APCs.

The journal accepts submissions of scholarly essays, review essays, and book reviews of critical and theoretical texts as well as proposals for special issues and essay clusters. In recent years, there has been an exponential growth of interest in the study and practice of human rights. The cultural discourse of human rights has become increasingly globalized and now serves as the basis for legal and normative frameworks and social relations in a variety of geographical, social, and cultural settings. In addition, new social organizations and forms of political action are grounded in the idea of human rights. Scholarship on key issues in human rights has also burgeoned and includes scholars from a wide range of perspectives and disciplines.The Journal of Human Rights serves as an arena for the public discussion and scholarly analysis of human rights, broadly conceived. It seeks to broaden the study of human rights by fostering the critical re-examination of existing approaches to human rights, as well as to develop new perspectives on the theory and practice of human rights. The journal provides the opportunity for the critical examination of the human rights community and of the different visions of human rights and different practical strategies which exist within that community. The editor welcomes papers from scholars and disciplines traditionally associated with the study of human rights, as well as papers from those in other disciplines or fields of inquiry which have traditionally been underrepresented in the field of human rights. The Journal of Human Rights is committed to theoretical and ideological diversity in the study of human rights.
