ES&T Letters is a rapid publication forum for international brief communications (Letters, Brief Reviews, Highlights, Global Perspectives) on rigorous experimental or theoretical results of exceptional timeliness on all aspects of environmental science and technology (pure and applied). The journal’s aim is to quickly publish short, timely research of an urgent or emerging nature on complex environmental phenomena while simultaneously facilitating the solution of critical environmental problems.

ES&T Letters’ scope is broad and includes characterization of natural and affected environments, environmental processes, fate, transport and transformation of compounds in natural and engineered systems, environmental measurement methods, environmental aspects of nanotechnology, novel remediation and control technology, biogeochemical cycling, ecotoxicology and human environmental health, sustainability and energy, and remediation, control and pollution prevention. Manuscripts describing cross-disciplinary research or addressing emerging issues are of particular interest. The journal appeals to a multidisciplinary and diverse audience of scientists, policy makers and the broad environmental community. Race, ethnicity and nationalism are at the heart of many of the major social and political issues in the present global environment. New antagonisms have emerged which require a rethinking of traditional theoretical and empirical perspectives. Ethnic and Racial Studies, published ten times a year, is the leading journal for the analysis of these issues throughout the world. Food and Foodways is a refereed, interdisciplinary, and international journal devoted to publishing original scholarly articles on the history and culture of human nourishment. By reflecting on the role food plays in human relations, this unique journal explores the powerful but often subtle ways in which food has shaped, and shapes, our lives socially, economically, politically, mentally, nutritionally, and morally. Because food is a pervasive social phenomenon, it cannot be approached by any one discipline. We encourage articles that engage dialogue, debate, and exchange across disciplines. Food and Foodways publishes work by anthropologists, biologists, economists, ethnobotanists, historians, literary critics, nutritionists, psychologists, sociologists, and others who use food as a lens of analysis. Food Chain is an international journal for all those involved in developing the supply of high-quality foods from ‘farm gate to plate’ and those who use food processing to alleviate poverty and hunger. By bridging the gap between research and practice, we encourage papers written by researchers for the benefit of people who put ideas into practice in the field, and those written by practitioners to inform the need for further research. 

The content of Food Chain covers all aspects of promoting food chains, from on-farm processing to storage, transportation, food processing businesses, hygiene and quality assurance, marketing, finance and the business environment. Although agriculture and nutrition does not feature per se in the journal, it does include aspects of post-harvest technology, crop quality, and nutrition/food security and food relief operations, where these impact on local food processors.

The journal includes in-depth articles of up to 8000 words; technical reports and case studies of 2–3000 words; Crossfire debate, in which contentious issues are discussed by two authorities on the subject.; appropriate methods of marketing, business organization and financial management for small food businesses; reports of academic research and other developments that are of interest for food chain development; regular features, including reviews of Internet and published sources of information, book reviews, news of forthcoming meetings, conferences and exhibitions. 

Food Structure is the premier international forum devoted to the publication of high-quality original research on food structure. The focus of this journal is on food structure in the context of its relationship with molecular composition, processing and macroscopic properties (e.g., shelf stability, sensory properties, etc.). Manuscripts that only report qualitative findings and micrographs and that lack sound hypothesis-driven, quantitative structure-function research are not accepted. Significance of the research findings for the food science community and/or industry must also be highlighted. Original research articles as well as review articles as they relate to food structure and functionality are welcomed. General Hospital Psychiatry explores the many linkages among psychiatry, medicine, and primary care. In emphasizing a biopsychosocial approach to illness and health, the journal provides a forum for professionals with clinical, academic, and research interests in psychiatry's role in the mainstream of medicine.The journal expands on traditional models of consultation-liaison, inpatient and outpatient services in the general hospital to address all aspects of ambulatory, inpatient, emergency, and community care. In response to the unpredictable nature of contemporary life, the journal explores the role of emergency psychiatry in addressing personal, social, political, and forensic responses to stress and trauma. Studies of multisystem relationships between stress, illness, psychosocial factors, inter- and intra-personal relationships, family dynamics, ecological change, and institutional forces are especially relevant to the journal's objectives.General Hospital Psychiatry will publish original articles, case reports and brief communications on: biopsychosocial approaches to medicine; liaison-consultation psychiatry; psychosomatic medicine; emergency and crisis psychiatry; the relationship of psychiatric services to general medical systems; and new directions in medical education that stress psychiatry's role in primary care, family practice, and continuing education.

As of January 2000, Developmental Genetics was renamed and relaunched as genesis: The Journal of Genetics and Development, with a new scope and Editorial Board. The journal focuses on work that addresses the genetics of development and the fundamental mechanisms of embryological processes in animals and plants. With increased awareness of the interplay between genetics and evolutionary change, particularly during developmental processes, we encourage submission of manuscripts from all ecological niches. The expanded numbers of genomes for which sequencing is being completed will facilitate genetic and genomic examination of developmental issues, even if the model system does not fit the “classical genetic” mold. Therefore, we encourage submission of manuscripts from all species. Other areas of particular interest include: 1) the roles of epigenetics, microRNAs and environment on developmental processes; 2) genome-wide studies; 3) novel imaging techniques for the study of gene expression and cellular function; 4) comparative genetics and genomics and 5) animal models of human genetic and developmental disorders.genesis presents reviews, full research articles, short research letters, and state-of-the-art technology reports that promote an understanding of the function of genes and the roles they play in complex developmental processes.

Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems (G3) publishes research papers on the chemistry, physics, and biology of Earth and planetary processes. Articles should be of broad interest and interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged, but not required. Gynecologic Oncology Reports is an online-only, open access journal devoted to the rapid publication of narrative review articles, survey articles, case reports, case series, letters to the editor regarding previously published manuscripts and other short communications in the field of gynecologic oncology. The journal will consider papers that concern tumors of the female reproductive tract, with originality, quality, and clarity the chief criteria of acceptance.

All manuscripts will be peer reviewed according to the Journal's policy set out below and, if accepted for publication in the Journal, Authors will be notified of this decision and at the same time requested to pay an Article Processing Fee. Following payment of the Article Processing Fee, papers will be made open access. Letters to the editor which comment upon work previously published in either Gynecologic Oncology or Gynecologic Oncology Reports will be published free of charge.

This title is fully open access and therefore funded not through library subscription payments but through author fees. If you would like your article to be published open access, but you genuinely cannot afford these fees, then individual waiver requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and may be granted in cases of genuine need. Priority for this waiver programme will be given to applications by authors from countries eligible for the Research4Life programme (see http://www.research4life.org/institutions.html).

The journal reflects the multidisciplinary nature of the field of health services and outcomes research. It addresses the needs of multiple, interlocking communities, including methodologists in statistics, econometrics, social and behavioral sciences: designers and analysts of health policy and health services research projects: and health care providers and policy makers who need to properly understand and evaluate the results of published research. The journal will strive to enhance the level of methodologic rigor in health services and outcomes research and will contribute to the development of methodologic standards in the field. In pursuing its main objective, the journal will also provide a meeting ground for researchers from a number of traditional disciplines and will foster the development of new quantitative methodology by statisticians, econometricians, and methodologists in other fields.

Special issues will be devoted to papers presented in important workshops and conferences.

History of Philosophy of the Life Sciences is an interdisciplinary journal committed to providing an integrative approach to understanding the life sciences. In specific terms, it welcomes submissions from biologists, historians, philosophers, and scholars in the social study of science that offer broad and interdisciplinary perspectives on the development of biology, especially as these perspectives illuminate both biology’s scientific development and its larger role in society. Submissions which are collaborative and feature different disciplinary approaches are especially encouraged, as are submissions written by senior and junior scholars (including graduate students). HPLS also welcomes submissions featuring novel formats. While it is anticipated most submissions will represent recent scholarship, they may also include essays on contemporary issues or perspectives, results of unique workshops, and/or discussions featuring a wide-range of perspectives. Papers are published on the understanding that they have not been published before and are not concurrently under offer to any other journal. In order for research to advance, negative results, which often make a valuable contribution to the field, should be published. However, articles containing negative or null results are frequently not considered for publication or rejected by journals. We welcome papers of this kind, where appropriate and valid power calculations are included that give confidence that a negative result can be relied upon.
