The Journal of Dual Diagnosis is a quarterly, international publication that focuses on the full spectrum of complexities regarding dual diagnosis. The co-occurrence of mental health and substance use disorders, or 8220;dual diagnosis,8221; is one of the quintessential issues in behavioral health. Why do such high rates of co-occurrence exist? What does it tell us about risk profiles? How do these linked disorders affect people, their families, and the communities in which they live? What are the natural paths to recovery? What specific treatments are most helpful and how can new ones be developed? How can we enhance the implementation of evidence-based practices at clinical, administrative, and policy levels? How can we help clients to learn active recovery skills and adopt needed supports, clinicians to master new interventions, programs to implement effective services, and communities to foster healthy adjustment? The Journal addresses each of these perplexing challenges. The Journal of Dual Diagnosis includes articles and perspectives from four overarching domains relevant to the field: Psychopharmacology & Neurobiology, Psychotherapy & Psychosocial Issues, Services & Policy, and Clinical Forum. Each issue (although not necessarily each article within an issue) serves to encourage integration of these domains. The Journal seeks to publish articles relevant to a wide range of individuals interested in dual diagnosis: researchers; physicians; clinicians; trainees and administrators. High-quality empirical research, brief reports, timely reviews, thought-provoking editorials, and on-going discussions of clinical issues will be considered for publication, all with the aim of developing a better understanding of the basis of and optimal treatment for co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. The aim of the Journal is to advance the development of a hierarchical and functional integrative approach to the neurosciences with an emphasis on: (i) neuroimaging, (ii) comparative experimentation, and (iii) data driven modeling, including the theoretical and philosophical foundations of this approach.The scope of the Journal is broad, encompassing all aspects of brain function, including regulation of homeostatic and maintenance functions, and behaviors in health and disease.The Journal will promote and disseminate studies categorized under the following themes: * Theoretical methods and analytical techniques allowing integration in neuroscience (e.g., infinite dimensional nonlinear dynamical systems, theory of complexity, n-field theory, diffusion theory, category theory, graph theory); * Experimentally and mathematically integrated models of brain activity (e.g., volume transmission and deep brain stimulation, large-scale realistic cable networks of cortical and sub-cortical integration); * Functional integration of physiological control mechanisms with anatomical structure in the nervous system, central and peripheral (e.g., control and regulation in the cardio-vascular and respiratory systems, autonomic control); * Bio-engineering and experimental techniques allowing integration in neuroscience (e.g., Human-machine interface technology, brain-based devices, optical recording, multi-electrode arrays, neuroimaging); * Experimentally-based neuropsychological and neurophilosophical models (e.g., semantic ambiguity, anticipatory behavior, free will, epistemological limitations in understanding consciousness); * Applications of integration to neural pathologies and neural control physiology (e.g., brain diseases, plasticity and rehabilitation, interface between functional genomics and psychiatric illnesses).The following types of experimental and theoretical papers are suitable for the Journal: * Rapid communications and forum style commentary articles (approx. 16 pages; 20 citations) * Original articles containing research reports (approx. 40 pages; 60 citations) * Topical reviews containing critical survey of the literature (approx. 40 pages; 120 citations) * Book reviews.

The Journal of Magnetic Resonance presents original technical and scientific papers in all aspects of magnetic resonance, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) of solids and liquids, electron spin/paramagnetic resonance (EPR), in vivomagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS), nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and magnetic resonance phenomena at nearly zero fields or in combination with optics. The Journal's main aims include deepening the physical principles underlying all these spectroscopies, publishing significant theoretical and experimental results leading to spectral and spatial progress in these areas, and opening new MR-based applications in chemistry, biology and medicine. The Journal also seeks descriptions of novel apparatuses, new experimental protocols, and new procedures of data analysis and interpretation - including computational and quantum-mechanical methods - capable of advancing MR spectroscopy and imaging.With a solid track record spanning over four decades, the Journal of Magnetic Resonance is known for introducing high-quality, breakthrough articles. These have been seminal to the current state-of-the-art achieved by NMR, ESR, MRI and NQR, and it is a tradition we aim to preserve and enlarge. The Journal's readership spans the full range of disciplines impacted by magnetic resonance, including experts interested in magnetic resonance within the context of physics, engineering, materials sciences, chemistry, biophysics, structural biology, in vivo biochemistry, biology, preclinical analyses, and human imaging.Emphasis is placed on expanding the basic principles and techniques underlying this branch of spectroscopy, as well as on state-of-the-art applications of novel MR experiments to all the research areas of interest to our constituency. Manuscripts that only make routine use of well-established techniques or minor spectroscopic contributions, are not appropriate for the Journal.

Published since 1974, Politikon is the official journal of the South African Association of Political Studies. Politikon focuses primarily on South African politics, but not exclusively so. Over the years the journal has published articles by some of the world's leading political scientists, including Arend Lijphart, Samuel Huntington, and Philippe Schmitter. It has also featured important contributions from South Africa's leading political philosophers, political scientists and international relations experts. It has proved an influential journal, particularly in debates over the merits of South Africa's constitutional reforms (in 1983 and 1994). In the last few years special issues have focused on women and politics in South Africa, and the South African election of 1999. Recent articles have looked at the negotiated transition from apartheid to democracy, aspects of identity politics in post-apartheid South Africa and issues of democratic consolidation. And invertebrates studied in the lab are helping to advance research in almost every area of biology and medicine-from embryonic development to aging processes. Yet despite these important contributions and the fact that invertebrates make up over 95% of all animal species, they get only a tiny fraction of the respect and attention paid to animals with backbones, even in the laboratory. This much-needed issue of the ILAR Journal sheds light on the importance, versatility, and care and welfare requirements of invertebrates. Our new journal, Conservation Genetics Resources has been established specifically to provide the rapid publication of technical papers on methodological innovations or improvements, computer programs and genomic resources including, but not limited to, novel microsatellite loci.
