International Journal of Environmental Studies

ISSN: 0020-7233eISSN: 1029-0400

For more than 30 years, the International Journal of Environmental Studies has been pre-eminent in its field. The environment is understood to comprise the natural and the man-made, and their interactions; including such matters as pollution, health effects, analytical methods, political approaches, social impacts etc. Papers favouring an interdisciplinary approach are preferred, because the evidence of 30 years appears to be that many intellectual tools and many causes and effects are at issue in any environmental problem - and its solution. This does not mean that a single focus or a narrow view is unwelcome; provided always that the evidence is indicated and the method is robust. Pragmatic decision-making and applicable policies are subjects of interest, together with the problems in establishing facts about dynamic systems where long periods of observation and precise measurement may be difficult to secure. In other words, a systems or holistic approach to the environment and a scientific analysis are complementary, and the distinction between 'hard' and 'soft' science is bridged in most of the papers published. These may be on any item in the agenda of environmental science: land, water, food, conservation, population, risk analysis, energy, economics of ecological and non-ecological approaches, social advocacy of arguments for change, legal measures, implications of urbanism, energy choices, waste disposal, recycling, transport systems and other issues of mass society. There is concern also for marginal areas, under-developed societies, minorities, species loss; and indeed no element of the subject of environmental studies, seen in an international and interactive mode, is excluded.Peer Review StatementAny paper offered to the International Journal of Environmental Studies will be assessed by peer review process.DisclaimerTaylor & Francis make every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the 8220;Content8221;) contained in its publications. Free online access: Inaugural issue Taylor & Francis to launch International Journal of Image and Data Fusion from January 2010 International Journal of Image and Data Fusion provides a single source of information for all aspects of image and data fusion methodologies, developments, techniques and applications. Image and data fusion techniques are important for combining the many sources of satellite, airborne and ground based imaging systems, and integrating these with other related data sets for enhanced information extraction and decision making.Image and data fusion aims at the integration of multi-sensor, multi-temporal, multi-resolution and multi-platform image data, together with geospatial data, GIS, in-situ, and other statistical data sets for improved information extraction, as well as to increase the reliability of the information. This leads to more accurate information that provides for robust operational performance, i.e. increased confidence, reduced ambiguity and improved classification enabling evidence based management. This journal focuses on the theory, methodology and applications of image and data fusion, and encourages submission on a broad range of topics such as concept studies, new fusion techniques at different processing level, image and data fusion architectures, algorithms, and novel applications. Papers addressing fusion needs for data from new or planned platforms and sensors are specifically invited. The journal welcomes original research papers, review papers, shorter letters and technical articles in all areas of image and data fusion including, but not limited to, the following aspects and topics: Automatic registration/geometric aspects of fusing images with different spatial, spectral, temporal resolutions; phase information; or acquired in different modes;Pixel, feature and decision level fusion algorithms and methodologiesData Assimilation: fusing data with modelsMulti-source classification and information extractionIntegration of satellite, airborne and terrestrial sensor systemsFusing temporal data sets for change detection studies (e.g. for Global Change studies)Data fusion applications in fields such as mapping, natural hazard monitoring, environmental security, etc. Image and data mining from multi-platform, multi-source, multi-scale, multi-temporal data sets (e.g. geometric information, topological information, statistical information, etc.) All published research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by independent expert referees.
