This journal is a cover to cover translation of the Russian journal Prikladnaya Matematika i Mekhanika, published by the Russian Academy of Sciences and reflecting all the major achievements of the Russian School of Mechanics. The journal is concerned with high-level mathematical investigations of modern physical and mechanical problems and reports current progress in this field. Special emphasis is placed on aeronautics and space science and such subjects as continuum mechanics, theory of elasticity, and mathematics of space flight guidance and control.
The Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics (ZAMP) publishes papers of high scientific quality in Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids and Differential Equations/Applied Mathematics. A paper will be considered for publication if at least one of the following conditions is fulfilled:
The paper includes results or discussions which can be considered original and highly interesting. The paper presents a new method. The author reviews a problem or a class of problems with such profound insight that further research is encouraged. The readers of ZAMP will find not only articles in their own special field but also original work in neighbouring domains. This will lead to an exchange of ideas; concepts and methods which have proven to be successful in one field may well be useful to other areas. ZAMP attempts to publish articles reasonably quickly. Longer papers are published in the section 'Original Papers', shorter ones may appear under 'Brief Reports' where publication is particularThe Journal publishes selected articles from Sibirskii Zhurnal Industrial’noi Matematiki and Diskretnyi Analiz i Issledovanie Operatsii on mathematical research in natural sciences, technology, ecology, medicine, and economics. The publications are devoted to the qualitative theory of differential equations, mathematical simulation in mechanics, technical physics, chemistry, biology, economics, discrete mathematics, mathematical research in the mechanics of solids, mechanics of fluids and gases, mechanics of inhomogeneous media, filtering, management, and informatics theory, problems of discrete optimization and graph theory, development and analysis of algorithms, synthesis and complexity of control systems, coding and automata theory, decision analysis and theoretical scheduling problems, game theory and applications. Submission of a manuscript indicates a tacit understanding that the paper is not actively under consideration for publication with other journals. Once a paper is accepted, author are assumed to cede copyrights to their paper over to World Scientific Publishing Co.In order to better stress the biological significance and the interdisciplinary impact of the mathematical developments, those developments (e.g., the proofs of propositions) that are not absolutely necessary to follow the main line of thoughts should be placed in an Appendix and even erased when a trained mathematician can recover them, and the mathematical style of presentation, that is definition, lemma, proof, theorem, proof, corollary, proof, etc, should be relaxed as much as possibl.
The Journal of Chemometrics is devoted to the rapid publication of original scientific papers, reviews and short communications on fundamental and applied aspects of chemometrics. It also provides a forum for the exchange of information on meetings and other news relevant to the growing community of scientists who are interested in chemometrics and its applications. Short, critical review papers are a particularly important feature of the journal, in view of the multidisciplinary readership at which it is aimed.
This journal advances and promotes the theory and applications of combinatorial optimization, which is an area of research at the intersection of applied mathematics, computer science, and operations research and which overlaps with many other areas such as computation complexity, computational biology, VLSI design, communication networks, and management science. It includes complexity analysis and algorithm design for combinatorial optimization problems, numerical experiments and problem discovery with applications in science and engineering. The Journal of Combinatorial Optimization publishes refereed papers dealing with all theoretical, computational and applied aspects of combinatorial optimization. It also publishes reviews of appropriate books and special issues of journals.
The multidisciplinary Journal of Complexity publishes original research papers that contain substantial mathematical results on complexity as broadly conceived. Outstanding review papers will also be published. In the area of computational complexity, the focus is on complexity over the reals, with the emphasis on lower bounds and optimal algorithms. The Journal of Complexity also publishes articles that provide major new algorithms or make important progress on upper bounds. Other models of computation, such as the Turing machine model, are also of interest. Computational complexity results in a wide variety of areas are solicited.Areas Include:• Approximation theory• Biomedical computing• Compressed computing and sensing• Computational finance• Computational number theory• Computational stochastics• Control theory• Cryptography• Design of experiments• Differential equations• Discrete problems• Distributed and parallel computation• High and infinite-dimensional problems• Information-based complexity• Inverse and ill-posed problems• Machine learning• Markov chain Monte Carlo• Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo• Multivariate integration and approximation• Noisy data• Nonlinear and algebraic equations• Numerical analysis• Operator equations• Optimization• Quantum computing• Scientific computation• Tractability of multivariate problems• Vision and image understandingBenefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. The aim of this journal is to provide an international forum for the dissemination of the state-of-the-art information in the field of Computational Acoustics.Topics covered by this journal include research and tutorial contributions in OCEAN ACOUSTICS (a subject of active research in relation with sonar detection and the design of noiseless ships), SEISMO-ACOUSTICS (of concern to earthquake science and engineering, and also to those doing underground prospection like searching for petroleum), AEROACOUSTICS (which includes the analysis of noise created by aircraft), COMPUTATIONAL METHODS, and SUPERCOMPUTING. In addition to the traditional issues and problems in computational methods, the journal also considers theoretical research acoustics papers which lead to large-scale scientific computations. The journal strives to be flexible in the type of high quality papers it publishes and their format. Equally desirable are*Full papers, which should be complete and relatively self-contained original contributions with an introduction that can be understood by the broad computational acoustics community. Both rigorous and heuristic styles are acceptable. Of particular interest are papers about new areas of research in which other than strictly computational arguments may be important in establishing a basis for further developments.*Tutorial review papers, covering some of the important issues in Computational Mathematical Methods, Scientific Computing, and their applications.*Short notes, which present specific new results and techniques in a brief communication. The journal will occasionally publish significant contributions which are larger than the usual format for regular papers. Special issues which report results of high quality workshops in related areas and monographs of significant contributions in the Series of Computational Acoustics will also be published.
The Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics publishes original papers of high scientific value in all areas of computational and applied mathematics. The main interest of the Journal is in papers that describe and analyze new computational techniques for solving scientific or engineering problems. Also the improved analysis, including the effectiveness and applicability, of existing methods and algorithms is of importance. The computational efficiency (e.g. the convergence, stability, accuracy, ...) should be proved and illustrated by nontrivial numerical examples. Papers describing only variants of existing methods, without adding significant new computational properties are not of interest. The audience consists of: applied mathematicians, numerical analysts, computational scientists and engineers.Benefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more.
