The Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health (JEGH) plans to impact global epidemiology and international health with peer-reviewed articles focused on innovative scholarship and strategies to advance global health policy. The journal will take special interest in publishing rigorous assessments of policies where these have been implemented based on epidemiological and public health research. At Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health we believe epidemiology and public health are closely intertwined, both scientifically, and from a health policy vantage: advances in one area exert positive consequences on the other. The journal benefits from a diverse, multidisciplinary, experienced and unusually international editorial board that will facilitate the publication of articles and perspectives reflecting a global view of public health medicine and epidemiology. We also seek to emphasize our focus on supporting the academic, clinical and practical needs of public health practitioners in the field. The journal seeks to improve regional and global health by informing efforts to reduce the risk of communicable and non-communicable diseases. We are particularly interested in the links between evolving epidemiologic advances and the implementation of health policy initiatives, eventually in publishing efficacy assessments, including the assessment of unintended consequences. As global health medicine meets unprecedented problems - the H1N1 pandemic being a recent example - imaginative approaches will be needed to influence health policy, foreign policy and even immigration policy. The resulting need for multidisciplinary research is not well served by the current body of academic publications and this journal seeks to fill this important gap.The Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health is an interdisciplinary journal that welcomes reviews, original papers, laboratory, epidemiological or clinical, as well as perspectives and commentaries from all aspects of communicable and non-communicable diseases, in particular those identified as priorities by the World Health Assembly. JEGH will not accept case reports and submissions purely focused on basic (bench) science.Journal of Epidemiology and Global Health is indexed by PubMed, MEDLINE
The International Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife (IJP-PAW) publishes the results of original research on parasites of all wildlife, invertebrate and vertebrate. This includes free-ranging, wild populations, as well as captive wildlife, semi-domesticated species (e.g. reindeer) and farmed populations of recently domesticated or wild-captured species (e.g. cultured fishes). Articles on all aspects of wildlife parasitology are welcomed including taxonomy, biodiversity and distribution, ecology and epidemiology, population biology and host-parasite relationships. The impact of parasites on the health and conservation of wildlife is seen as an important area covered by the journal especially the potential role of environmental factors, for example climate. Also important to the journal is 'one health' and the nature of interactions between wildlife, people and domestic animals, including disease emergence and zoonoses. The principal form of publication is the full-length article which contains substantial, original research. The journal also accepts brief reports that have similar subject scope as the full-length article, but do not merit a full-length publication. In addition, the journal commissions articles with emphasis on shorter, focused reviews of topical and emerging issues as well as strategically important subjects. The journal encourages critical comment and debate on matters of current controversy in the area of parasites and wildlife via "Current Opinions".This title is fully open access and therefore funded not through library subscription payments but through author fees. If you would like your article to be published open access, but you genuinely cannot afford these fees, then individual waiver requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and may be granted in cases of genuine need. Priority for this waiver programme will be given to applications by authors from countries eligible for the Research4Life programme (see http://www.research4life.org/institutions.html).
The scope of the International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry comprises such subjects as original research on all aspects of analytical work related to environmental problems such as analysis of organic, inorganic and radioactive pollutants in air, water, sediments and biota; and determination of harmful substances, including analytical methods for the investigation of chemical or metabolic breakdown patterns in the environment and in biological samples. The journal also covers the development of new analytical methods or improvement of existing ones useful for the control and investigation of pollutants or trace amounts of naturally occurring active chemicals in all environmental compartments. Development, modification and automation of instruments and techniques with potential in environment sciences are also part of the journal.Case studies are also considered, particularly for areas where information is scarce or lacking, providing that reported data is significant and representative, either spatially or temporally, and quality assured. Owing to the interdisciplinary nature of this journal, it will also include certain topics in the fields of medical science (health sciences), toxicology, forensic sciences, oceanography, food sciences, biological sciences and other fields that in one way or another contribute to the knowledge of our environment and for this purpose have to make use of analytical chemistry.DisclaimerTaylor & Francis makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the 8220;Content8221;) contained in its publications. Marine Pollution Bulletin is concerned with the rational use of maritime and marine resources in estuaries, the seas and oceans, as well as with documenting marine pollution and introducing new forms of measurement and analysis. A wide range of topics are discussed as news, comment, reviews and research reports, not only on effluent disposal and pollution control, but also on the management, economic aspects and protection of the marine environment in general.A distinctive feature of Marine Pollution Bulletin is the number of different categories of articles which are published. Papers ('Reports') form the core of the journal, while 'Baselines' document measurements which are expected to have value in the future. 'Reviews' are generally invited by the editors on subjects which cross traditional lines, but suggestions for topics are welcomed. 'Viewpoints' are a less formal forum for scientists to comment freely on matters of relevant national and international importance. Other sections of the Bulletin include 'News', 'New Products', 'Conference Reports', 'Conference Diary', 'Correspondence' and 'Book Reviews'. Two volumes are published annually, one of which contains a series of special issues on topics of particular current interest. The importance and influence of these special issues, which address the major marine environmental concerns of our time, is increasingly being recognised not just by the wider scientific community, but also by environmental policy makers at national and international level.Benefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. Biorheology is an international interdisciplinary journal that publishes research on the deformation and flow properties of biological systems or materials. It is the aim of the editors and publishers of Biorheology to bring together contributions from those working in various fields of biorheological research from all over the world. Members of the editorial board and the advisory board work in different areas of biorheology in several countries where appreciable research activity in this field is being carried out.The aim of biorheological research is to determine and characterize the dynamics of physiological processes at all levels of organization. Manuscripts should report original theoretical and/or experimental research promoting the scientific and technological advances in a broad field that ranges from the rheology of macromolecules and macromolecular arrays to cell, tissue and organ rheology. In all these areas, the interrelationships of rheological properties of the systems or materials investigated and their structural and functional aspects are stressed. The scope of papers solicited by Biorheology extends to systems at different levels of organization that have never been studied before, or, if studied previously, have either never been analyzed in terms of their rheological properties or have not been studied from the point of view of the rheological matching between their structural and functional properties. This biorheological approach applies in particular to molecular studies where changes of physical properties and conformation are investigated without reference to how the process actually takes place, how the forces generated are matched to the properties of the structures and environment concerned, proper time scales, or what structures or strength of structures are required.Biorheology invites papers in which such 'molecular biorheological' aspects, whether in animal or plant systems, are examined and discussed. While we emphasize the biorheology of physiological function in organs and systems, the biorheology of disease is of equal interest. Biorheological analyses of pathological processes and their clinical implications are encouraged, including basic clinical research on hemodynamics and hemorheology.
The journal Carbon is an international multidisciplinary forum for communicating scientific advances in the field of carbon materials and carbon nanomaterials. The journal reports significant new findings related to the formation, structure, properties, behaviors, and technological applications of carbons, which are a broad class of ordered or disordered solid phases composed primarily of elemental carbon. These materials can be either synthetic or of natural origin, and include, but are not limited to, graphene and graphene-oxide, carbon nanotubes, carbon fibers and filaments, graphite, porous carbons, pyrolytic carbon, glassy carbon, carbon black, diamond and diamond-like carbon, fullerenes, and chars. Papers on composites will be considered if the carbon component is a major focus of the paper's scientific content. Papers on organic substances may be considered if they are precursors for such carbon materials. Relevant application areas for carbon materials include, but are not limited to, electronic and photonic devices, structural and thermal applications, smart materials and systems, energy storage and conversion, catalysis, environmental protection, and biology and medicine.Carbon publishes comprehensive research articles, Letters to the Editor, and invited reviews by leading experts in the field. Papers will be selected that have high scientific merit, impart important new knowledge, and are of high interest to the international carbon materials community. The algae are heterogeneous assemblage of phytosynthetic organisms, one of the most vast and diverse groups of ancient photoautotrophic pro- and eukaryotic organisms (about 30 000 known species). They are micro- and macroscopic, unicellular, colonial, or multicellular, mobile and immobile, attached and free-living. Algae are widespread in water and soil habitats, at different geographic latitudes, and on all continents. They occur in waters with different degrees of salinity, trophicity, organic matter, and hydrogen ions, and at various temperatures. They include planktonic, periphytonic and benthic organisms. Algae are unique model organisms in evolutionary biology and also are used in various genetic, physiological, biochemical, cytological, and other investigations. Algae have practical significance as edible or poisonous plants, as indicator organisms in the monitoring of ecological systems, as agents of self-purification of polluted waters and in the purification of sewage, as the primary producers in the trophic chains of hydrobionts in marine and freshwater, and also as organisms for biotechnology. The quarterly International Journal on Algae (IJA) publishes selected papers translated from the first Russian language phycological journal, Algologia, founded in 1991 in the former Soviet Union. The aim of Algologia is to present recent advances in algology. The journal covers both fundamental and applied aspects in algology, including papers based on the results of wide range of field and experimental studies, as well as reviews and surveys and procedure papers. The journal is intended for specialists in theoretical, experimental, and applied algology, hydrobiology, microbiology, all scientists using algae as a model organisms for research, and all those interested in general problems of biology. The aim and scope of IJA is to inform the western scientific community, especially algologists, about original studies by scientists of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in the following subjects: General Problems of Algology; Morphology, Anatomy, Cytology; Reproduction and Life Cycles of Algae; Genetics; Physiology, Biochemistry and Biophysics; Ecology, Cenology and Conservation of Algae and their Role in Nature; Flora and Geography; Fossil Algae; Systematics, Phylogeny and Problems of Evolution of Algae; New Taxa and Noteworthy Records; and Applied Algology.
The journal covers a broad spectrum and brings together various disciplines,
for example, zoology, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, mathematical
modelling, veterinary and human medicine. Multidisciplinary approaches and the
use of conventional and novel methods/methodologies (in the field and in the
laboratory) are crucial for deeper understanding of the natural processes and
human behaviour/activities that result in human or animal diseases and in economic
effects of ticks and tick-borne pathogens. Such understanding is essential for
management of tick populations and tick-borne diseases in an effective and environmentally
acceptable manner. The journal covers the following topics:
Ticks: biosystematics/taxonomy, morphology, evolution, ecology, physiology/biochemistry,
behaviour, molecular biology, genomics/proteomics, and control
Ecology/ecoepidemiology of tick-borne diseases: vector ticks and reservoir
hosts, the mechanisms and processes determining their abundance and distribution,
the occurrence and prevalence of pathogens in tick and tick-host populations,
tick-host-pathogen interactions at the ecological level and their dependence
upon environmental factors, natural focality, and risk assessments of exposure
to ticks and the occurrence of tick-borne diseases
Tick-borne pathogens: viruses, bacteria, and parasites, their biology in
ticks and vertebrates, pathogen-tick and pathogen-host interactions on the molecular
and cellular levels, transmission, coinfection, genomics/proteomics, and biosystematics/taxonomy
Tick-borne diseases in domestic animals and wildlife: epidemiology, diagnosis,
immunology, treatment, vaccination, control/management, and economics
Tick-borne human diseases: epidemiology, diagnosis, immunology, treatment,
vaccination, socioeconomics, and public health
In addition, methodological papers on all these areas will be published as well
as timely reviews on vectors and vector-borne diseases in which tick biology
or tick-borne diseases are addressed.
Veterinary Microbiology is concerned with microbial (bacterial, fungal, viral) diseases of domesticated animals (livestock, companion animals, fur-bearing animals, game, poultry, fish) that supply food, other useful products or companionship. In addition, Microbial diseases of wild animals living in captivity, or as members of the feral fauna will also be considered if the infections are of interest because of their interrelation with humans (zoonoses) and/or domestic animals. Studies of antimicrobial resistance are also included.Original research papers of high quality and novelty on aspects of control, host response, molecular biology, pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment of microbial diseases of animals are published. Papers dealing primarily with immunology or epidemiology will only be considered if they demonstrate a clear impact on the pathogenesis of a disease. The same applies to papers on antiviral and antimicrobial agents. Papers focussing solely on diagnostic techniques (such as another PCR protocol or ELISA) will not be published - focus should be on a microorganism and not on a particular technique.Drug trial papers will be considered if they have general application or significance. Papers on the identification of microorganisms will also be considered, but detailed taxonomic studies do not fall within the scope of the journal. Case reports will not be published, unless they have general application or contain novel aspects. Papers of geographically limited interest, which repeat what had been established elsewhere will not be considered. The readership of the journal is global. The Editors reserve the right to suggest submission to another journal for those papers which they feel would be more appropriate for consideration by that journal.Papers will be rejected if standards of care of, or procedures performed on, animals are not up to those expected of humane veterinary scientists. At a minimum, standards must meet the International Guiding Principles for Biomedical Research involving Animals, as issued by the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences. The Journal of Field Robotics seeks to promote scholarly publications dealing with the fundamentals of robotics in unstructured and dynamic environments. Articles describing robotics research with applications to the environment, construction, forestry, agriculture, mining, subsea, intelligent highways, search and rescue, military, and space (orbital and planetary) are encouraged. Papers in sensing, sensors, mechanical design, computing architectures, communication, planning, learning, and control, applied to field applications are encouraged. The Journal focuses on experimental robotics and encourages publication of work that has both theoretical and practical significance. Authors will be encouraged to implement their work and demonstrate its utility on significant problems with emphasis on the underlying principles. That is, the Journal will encourage reporting on what was learned in doing the work, rather than merely on what was done. Also encouraged are comparative or meta-studies and verification of previously published results as well as reports of extended field experiments that seek to validate autonomous systems in representative environments. Systems papers will be welcome but they must include analysis and insight into why approaches work and the challenges still to be addressed. Studies of systems that have been fielded over extended durations are encouraged. The journal will publish only articles of high quality rather than achieving a particular number of papers or a ratio of accepted papers to those submitted. The Journal will push the frontiers of electronic publishing in the following ways: 1. Exploitation of the medium via multimedia that accompanies articles . JFR will publish code, models, data, and animations (either synthetic or actual video demonstrations) as appendices to articles. Such appendices will not be a requirement for publication but will be encouraged. 2. Low-cost access to articles and appendices . JFR will be deliberately structured so as to reduce the costs of publication. Fast and easy access to the journal will accelerate the pace at which new results can be absorbed by other researchers. It will also allow access to new results by a large population across the globe currently not privileged to the infrastructure required to support robotics research and, in some cases, who do not have easy access to archival quality printed journals. 3. Reduced time to publication . JFR will organize the reviewing and publication process in such a way that a short turnaround time is possible. Reviews will be led by members of the Editorial Board and by notable researchers. Papers and reviews will be managed via a Web interface and a paid managing editor will be in charge of ensuring the process of submission and resubmission runs smoothly. Before being asked to review a paper, reviewers will be asked whether they have the time to review the paper, and if they do not, they will not be sent the paper. Free Online Access in the Developing World Access to this journal is available free online within institutions in the developing world through the Research4Life collective. For information visit, www.research4life.org.

Europe has always been an area of dynamic development in plastic surgery. Its great strength has been the lack of uniformity of this development due to differing cultures, different traditions, and differing medical and surgical philosophies. Over the recent years, these changes have been even more striking and rapid. The European Journal of Plastic Surgery creates a focal point for the input of new advances in clinical techniques and in research. It thus becomes an educational vehicle. In addition to this, the journal provides information on what is going on elsewhere in the world, and it is also willing to accept contributions from outside of Europe. Fields of interest include general plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck surgery, aesthetic and craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, treatment of bones, trauma, burn management and basic research related to all aspects of plastic surgery.Submitted articles are first evaluated by the Editor in Chief and if judged appropriate, are peer-reviewed by at least two selected experts. Reviewers may be plastic surgeons or other surgical/ medical specialists with expertise in specific areas of research. Manuscripts provisionally accepted for publication may be returned to the author for corrections or clarifications, in response to suggestions by the Editorial Board or external reviewers, prior to final acceptance.Online submission and peer review for rapid online publication are offered through the Editorial Manager System. The system creates a PDF version of the submitted article for peer review, revision and proofing. All correspondence, including the request for revisions and final decision, is managed by e-mail. Authors are guided step by step through the full process and are kept up to date on the article’s progress at every stage.Manuscripts submitted for publication must contain a statement to the effect that all human studies have been reviewed by the, appropriate ethics committee and have therefore been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in an appropriate version of the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. It should also be stated clearly in the text that all persons gave their informed consent prior to their inclusion in the study. Details that might disclose the identity of the subjects under study should be omitted.Reports of animal experiments must state that the 'Principles of laboratory animal care' (NIH publication No. 86-23, revised in 1985) were followed, as well as specific national laws (e.g. the current version of the German Law on the Protection of Animals) where applicable.Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. The names of funding organizations should be written in full. Authors are also required to disclose any relationships with public or private commercial or noncommercial entities, any institutional affiliations, or any personal associations that might pose a conflict of interest. The Editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the above-mentioned requirements. The author will be held responsible for false statements or for failure to fulfill the above-mentioned requirements.
The primary aim of the journal is to publish original and high-quality articles that recognize statistical modelling as the general framework for the application of statistical ideas. Submissions must reflect important developments, extensions, and applications in statistical modelling. The journal also encourages submissions that describe scientifically interesting, complex or novel statistical modelling aspects from a wide diversity of disciplines, and submissions that embrace the diversity of applied statistical modelling. An important objective and exciting feature of the journal is that the reader should be able to reproduce the results presented in published articles, apply the published techniques to their own problems, and even develop their own extensions of the methodology. To achieve this authors are strongly encouraged to make data and software available over the internet through a website linked to the journal. The website address is http://stat.uibk.ac.at/SMIJThe journal aims to be the major resource for statistical modelling, covering both methodology and practice. Its goal is to be multidisciplinary in nature, promoting the cross-fertilization of ideas between substantive research areas, as well as providing a common forum for the comparison, unification and nurturing of modelling issues across different subjects. The journal will have three main themes:* New Methodology for papers on new statistical modelling ideas. These papers will be based upon a problem of real substantive interest with appropriate data.* Practical Applications for papers on interesting practical problems which are addressed using an existing or a novel adaptation of an existing modelling technique.* Tutorials & Reviews with papers on recent and cutting edge topics in statistical modelling.Since "Practical Applications" manuscripts are less common in statistics journals than the other two types, it is worth being more specific concerning the types of manuscripts that fall into this category. Manuscripts should describe statistical analyses of a subject area, where the proposed analyses have rarely (if ever) been done in the application field. This is not, however, sufficient for acceptance for publication. Manuscripts should also provide a thorough literature review of how data of this type are currently handled in the literature of the application area, a review of any applications of modern statistical methodology applied to data of its type in the area, and justification as to why the work is important to the subject area, and provides gains beyond current methodology applied to the field. The methodology used should be modern and reasonably sophisticated (although not necessarily innovative) and should have few or no applications so far in the subject area literature. The intention in publishing such manuscripts is to provide an opportunity for readers (including those from the application area) to see the potential to revolutionize data analysis in the field. It is also hoped that such publication would provide an outlet for statisticians who may get little recognition in the statistics field for excellent, non-routine, clever, state-of-the-art work in subject areas. It is expected that the author will submit several suggestions for possible reviewers who are in the application area when submitting the manuscript.
