The Journal of Maps is a peer-reviewed, inter-disciplinary, online journal that aims to provide a forum for researchers to publish maps and spatial diagrams. 

Scope

In its broadest sense, the Journal of Maps ( JoM ) is concerned with social and physical processes that take place on a geographical scale. Topics could include, for example, footfall in retail marketing, the spread of bird flu or location of geological faults, the common theme being the use of maps or spatial diagrams to advance understanding. Maps submitted MUST make a substantial contribution to knowledge in the field that is likely to be of broad interest to readers of the journal. Above all, to be published in the JoM is to demonstrate a unique line of enquiry which has required the use of maps or spatial diagrams, to have collected new data or added significant value to existing data and to present and communicate the findings adhering to high cartographic standards.

Origins

The JoM has its origins back in the geological and geographical journals of the late-1800s and early 1900s. The investigative research during this period was based strongly around fieldwork and the observation of phenomena. After observation, interpretation could be applied and then presented at a society meeting. The "proceedings" of these lectures were then published, often with extra plates of photographs and maps of the original fieldwork. As a result of the these early pioneers, we now have a permanent record of this work which can be referred back to. This is important as we not only have the interpretive conclusions, but also the original data upon which the work was based. The JoM therefore seeks to offer a forum for academics to present the geospatial products of their research.

Multi-Disciplinary and International

As a discipline, "geography" traditionally covers a wide range of subject areas due to it's spatial nature. Maps and mapping science were often incorporated within geography, however spatial data are now widely used in many disciplines. JoM is intentionally multi-disciplinary and wants to draw upon, and present, work from all subject areas. Not only has this built an increasing archive of mapped data for future researchers to draw upon, but also fosters inter-disciplinary contexts.

It is intended mainly for physicians active in intensive care and accident/emergency units, but also for internists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, neurologists, and pediatricians with special interest in intensive care medicine.
Comprehensive reviews describe the most recent advances in the field of internal medicine with special focus on intensive care problems. Freely submitted original articles present important studies in this discipline and promote scientific exchange, while case reports feature, interesting cases and aim at optimizing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. In the rubric journal club well-respected experts comment on outstanding international publications. Review articles under the rubric 'Continuing Medical Education' present verified results of scientific research and their integration into daily practice.

Neotropical Biodiversity is an open-access, international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research articles and reviews of exceptional significance for biodiversity within the Neotropics. The journal covers all scales of biodiversity, including molecules, genes, populations, species, and ecosystems. General areas include, but are not restricted to, the following: anatomy, biogeography, computational biology, evolutionary developmental biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, conservation biology, ecology, evolution, landscape genomics, phylogenetic, paleontology, population biology, and taxonomy.

The main criteria for acceptance of reviews and research papers are originality, scientific rigour and appeal to an international readership.   Neotropical Biodiversity also publishes occasional monographs that clearly represent substantial contributions in a particular field. All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double blind.

Preventive Veterinary Medicine is one of the leading international resources for scientific reports on animal health programs and preventive veterinary medicine. The journal follows the guidelines for standardizing and strengthening the reporting of biomedical research which are available from the CONSORT, MOOSE, PRISMA, REFLECT, STARD, and STROBE statements. The journal focuses on:Epidemiology of health events relevant to domestic and wild animals;Economic impacts of epidemic and endemic animal and zoonotic diseases;Latest methods and approaches in veterinary epidemiology;Disease and infection control or eradication measures;The "One Health" concept and the relationships between veterinary medicine, human health, animal-production systems, and the environment;Development of new techniques in surveillance systems and diagnosis;Evaluation and control of diseases in animal populations.The journal encourages the submission of clinical and field-trial studies, particularly those related to new vaccines and other preventive measures. These studies, however, should follow the Consort Statement (http://www.consort-statement.org) or Reflect Statement (http://reflect-statement.org).Prevalence studies may be considered for publication, but only if the results are likely to be of international interest (i.e. it must be possible to generalize the findings using scientifically based approaches). For these studies, key considerations in the review process will include (but are not limited to): consideration of both animal-level and herd-level demographics in the sampling design; the study population's relevance to the authors' described target population; the potential for confounding; and how well the sample-size justification assures high precision. Vision Research is a journal devoted to the functional aspects of human, vertebrate and invertebrate vision and publishes experimental and observational studies, reviews, and theoretical papers firmly based upon the current facts of visual science. Vision Research also accepts experimental studies in which clinical material has been used to address an issue of basic research interest, or where basic research methods have been used to address an issue of clinical importance, or where basic research may have, as yet unapplied, clinical relevance, as far as mechanisms of function or dysfunction of the visual system are concerned. The words clinical and vision sciences should be interpreted in the broadest sense, as represented by the areas of expertise of the members of the Editorial Board. Papers reporting detailed investigations are encouraged and authors should be advised to include enough background material in the introduction of their papers so that they are comprehensible to the non-specialist. The purpose of theoretical papers is to give a higher sense of order to the facts as they are presently known, or to point to new observations which can be verified experimentally. Papers dealing with questions in the history of visual science should lay stress upon the history of ideas in this field. Vision Research has always welcomed the broadest interpretation of visual science.2. Vision Research also welcomes mini reviews. A mini review is not intended to be a comprehensive history of the subject, but rather a survey of recent developments in fast-growing and active areas of vision research covering only the last few years.3. Letters to the Editor: If in response to a published article a letter to the Editor is received, this letter will be sent out for review and at the same time be forwarded to the author(s) tackled.
