Over the past two decades, the relatively new areas of business ethics, environmental accountability, and corporate responsibility have established their place in business, in organizational theory and in the classroom. At the same time we have evidenced a rising interest in spirituality and in mainstream religion, both of which are making their way into the corporate boardroom in a variety of manifestations - from corporate values through life-work balance to Fung Shui and meditation. Some argue that the age of the 'moral organization' has come, and not too soon either, in the wake of the Enron, Worldcom and Parmalat scandals. The meltdown of financial markets we are currently experiencing is a cause to pause and reflect, as is the surging economies of China and India, representing new thinking on managing and organizing. At the same time, degree programmes combining religious studies and theology with business studies and management have been expanding. In addition, students for priesthood are expected to learn how to manage resources as part of their role. And yet from another end, religious-inspired organizations play a decisive role in our societies, running the spectrum from Mother Theresa's mission of hope and peace, to Bin Laden's 'mission' of destruction. As evidenced in the recent formation and success of the Management, Spirituality and Religion Special Interest Group of the Academy of Management, this field is gathering momentum. Yet, so far, it has no dedicated forum for disseminating work, for the development of theory and best practice, and for the exchange of ideas and debate. The growing number of devoted courses have no specialized journal to whet their students' appetite, and students undertaking research work have as yet no scholarly address for their enquiries. Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion (JMSR) aims to become the first port of call for academics in this fast expanding scholarly area. JMSR serves three large communities: (1) students, scholars and practitioners of spirituality, (2) management academics and practising managers, and (3) religion scholars and religious leaders. JMSR aims to serve as a meeting forum and help cross-fertilisation in these communities. It wishes to encompass, without prejudging any belief, a multitude of interests and concerns. Our sole criterion is academic rigour and scientific merit. Since its first issue in 2004, JMSR has published some 100 papers and is helping to define this new exciting field. To date we are the only dedicated forum for disseminating work, for the development of theory and best practice, and for the exchange of ideas and debate in Management, Spirituality and Religion. Rationale The philosophy of crime and criminal law has been undergoing a renaissance.Increasing numbers of lawyers and philosophers are researching, writing and teaching in the area. Lawyers who are exploring theoretical issues related to criminal liability and punishment find that they must turn to philosophy. Philosophers recognise the importance of the criminal law as a focus for both analytical and normative inquiry. The practical importance of the subject is also obvious, especially at a time when western governments are having to reconsider their rationales for criminalization and sentencing in the light of substantial changes in criminal justice systems and their social contexts. Until recently, there was no journal solely devoted to the philosophy of crime and criminal law. Criminal Law and Philosophy fills this gap, and provides a platform for the high quality work that is being done in this area. The journal also seeks work that presents innovative techniques that offer promising results for future research.The Computational Algebra SectionThe Computational Algebra section has been introduced to provide an appropriate forum for contributions which make use of computer calculations and to broaden the scope of the Journal.The following papers are particularly welcome in the Computational Algebra section of the Journal of Algebra:• Results obtained by computer calculations - to be suitable for publication such results must represent a major advance of mathematics. It is not sufficient to extend previous computations by means of higher computer power. Rather the contribution has to exhibit new methods and mathematical results to be accepted.• Classifications of specific algebraic structures (in form of tables, if appropriate), which are not easily obtained and are useful to the algebraic community.• Description and outcome of experiments, to put forward new conjectures, to support existing conjectures, or to give counter examples to existing conjectures.• Papers emphasizing the constructive aspect of algebra, such as description and analysis of new algorithms (not program listings, nor, in the first instance, discussions of software development issues), improvements and extensions of existing algorithms, description of computational methods which are not algorithms in the strict sense (since, e.g., they need not terminate).• Interactions between algebra and computer science, such as automatic structures, word problems and other decision problems in groups and semigroups, preferably, but not necessarily, with an emphasis on practicality, implementations, and performance of the related algorithms.• Contributions are welcome from all areas of algebra, including algebraic geometry or algebraic number theory, if the emphasis is on the algebraic aspects.Contributions describing applications of algebraic results or methods, for example in coding theory, cryptography, or the algebraic theory of differential equations are highly welcome. As an international, peer-reviewed scholarly journal, Environmental Sociology aims to stretch the conceptual and theoretical boundaries of both environmental and mainstream sociology, to highlight the relevance of sociological research for environmental policy and management, to disseminate the results of sociological research, and to engage in productive dialogue and debate with other disciplines in the social, natural and ecological sciences.
