The International Journal of Sustainable Development and World Ecology is now over fifteen years old and has proved to be an exciting forum for understanding and advancing our knowledge and implementation of sustainable development. Sustainable development is now of primary importance as the key to future use and management of finite world resources. It recognises the need for development opportunities while maintaining a balance between these and the environment. As stated by the UN Bruntland Commission in 1987, sustainable development should 'meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.' This is the primary focus of the journal, and is addressed by papers in environmental sustainability, economic sustainability, and/or social and cultural sustainability. Environmental sustainability includes mitigating effects of climate change, minimising environmental degradation, and sustainable land management. Economic sustainability includes capacity-building, integrated decision making, industry and biotechnology, consumption and production. Social and cultural sustainability includes demographics, human settlements, international law, health and welfare. These three subject areas encompass the scope of the journal. They can be considered empirically, through case studies, as reviews, commentaries, rapid communications, or integrated studies in special issues of the journal. The journal is interdisciplinary and aims to examine topical and important issues and so provide stimulating and, at times, controversial reading. Transition Studies Network was founded in 2002 as CEEUN-Central Eastern European
University Cooperation, with the aim to connect a group of experts and university faculty
in a program of cooperation devoted to research programs and specialized international
postgraduate and doctoral courses. The Network has grown fast and soon after the scientific
“voice” had been established with the Journal Transition Studies Review, published by Spring
Wien-New York. At the beginning, it was focusing on transition in Central and Southeast
Europe, interpreting CEEUN purely as European network. Soon later, the EU enlargement
of the aims and scope to Russia, Ukraine, Caucasus, the Black Sea and Mediterranean
regions was achieved. From 2005, a worldwide regional approach looking to Asia,
Latin America, Eurasia and Great Middle East has been implemented. To the previous
CEEUN, TSN-Transition Studies Network had been taking the heritage and the “aims and
scope” were recently better integrated.Transition Studies Network has progressively involved in the last ten years more than 400
internationally well known members and 95 university departments, institutes and research
centres and is engaged in many areas and programs. The scientifi c interests and fi elds are
covering: Europe and the World, future approach to EU enlargement, the global governance
economic, fi nancial and policy framework and impact, where it focuses especially on growth
theories, innovation and human capital, main advanced industrial sectors technologies,
investments, international affairs, foreign policy choices and security, monetary policy and
main currency areas, banking and insurance, development and area studies, social policies,
environment and climate, culture and society, juridical and law studies, regional approach to
global governance, peculiarities and critical challenges.The future, transition to open economy and institutional reforms, political and strategic issues
and challenges, governance, European, Mediterranean, Asia-Pacifi c, Middle Eastern, Latin
America and Africa perspectives are key topics of this highranking journal. The Transatlantic
and Asia-Pacifi c relations, security and international order represent, together with applied
regional studies, another cornerstone of the Network’s activity and of Transition Studies
Review’s contents, where two other Journals will dedicated: the Journal of Global Policy and
Governance, based in Shanghai and in Rome: the International Journal of Euro Mediterranean
Studies based in Portorož, Slovenia. The Network is deeply committed to a wide range of transition
issues related to quantitative modeling and tools to analyzing and researching economic,
fi nancial, strategic studies, social, cultural, environmental, juridical main issues.

Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety focuses on integrated mechanistic research related to short- and long-term pathways and interactions of substances and chemical mixtures in environmental systems and subsystems on their bioavailability, and assimilation in organisms, as well as biological responses of these organisms, and damage mechanisms (endocrine disruption, genotoxicity); and on their subsequent fate in the environment, food chain, including humans. Novel technologies, techniques, and methods such as biomarkers, biosensors and bioanalytical systems, bioremediation methods, QSARs and QSPRs, advanced high performance computational methods, models, and their applications in obtaining and processing interdisciplinary ecotoxicological information are also addressed in the journal. We welcome the applied outcome of complex ecotoxicological research such as developing the science-based Environmental Quality Criteria (EQC), standard toxicity tests, techniques, and methods for ecotoxicological evaluation of the environment, as well as developing ecotoxicologically proven methods and technologies for prevention, interception, and remediation of human-induced damage to ecosystems. Emphasis is placed on ecological animal models rather than laboratory based rodent studies; The above scope of the journal is aimed at providing science-based tools for sustainably managing the environment through risk assessment, risk characterization, risk prediction, and risk management. Publishing only the best work, Plant, Cell & Environment publishes original research, either theoretical or experimental, that provides novel insights into the ways that plants respond to their environment. Thus the journal covers plant biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, cell physiology, whole plant physiology, crop physiology and physiological ecology, together with structural, genetic, pathological and meteorological aspects as related to plant function. The series Advances in Polymer Science presents critical reviews of the present and future trends in polymer and biopolymer science. It covers all areas of research in polymer and biopolymer science including chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, material science. The thematic volumes are addressed to scientists, whether at universities or in industry, who wish to keep abreast of the important advances in the covered topics. Advances in Polymer Science enjoys a longstanding tradition and good reputation in its community. Each volume is dedicated to a current topic, and each review critically surveys one aspect of that topic, to place it within the context of the volume. The volumes typically summarize the significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years and discuss them critically, presenting selected examples, explaining and illustrating the important principles, and bringing together many important references of primary literature. On that basis, future research directions in the area can be discussed. Advances in Polymer Science volumes thus are important references for every polymer scientist, as well as for other scientists interested in polymer science - as an introduction to a neighboring field, or as a compilation of detailed information for the specialist. Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy publishes articles that achieve two objectives: to synthesize, integrate and analyze areas of current applied economic research within the mission of the AAEA in order to inform the decision-making and policy-making community; and to stimulate linkages between sub-fields of agricultural and applied economics in a way that illuminates and focuses future research and increases knowledge among researchers about the impact of public policy. The journal’s aim is to reframe the breadth of available technical economic literature to inform future economic research and broader audiences by presenting high quality agricultural and applied economic research in a way that is generally accessible. In each issue of the journal, at least two perspectives articles, specifically solicited by the editors, focus on selected themes of interest, alongside which are published submitted articles. Security Studies has firmly established itself as a leading journal on international security issues. The Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology provides rapid publication of peer-reviewed articles describing significant advances and discoveries in the fields of air, soil, water, and food contamination and pollution as well as articles on methodology and other disciplines concerned with the introduction, presence and effects of toxicants in the total environment. With its high standards of scientific quality and clarity, the Bulletin provides a meeting ground for research workers who daily encounter problems related to the contamination of our environment and who welcome opportunities to share in new discoveries as soon as they are made.

The Journal publishes original research papers, review articles and short communications on studies examining the interactions between living organisms and factors of the natural and artificial atmospheric environment. Living organisms extend from single cell organisms, to plants and animals, including humans. The atmospheric environment includes climate and weather, electromagnetic radiation, and chemical and biological pollutants. The journal embraces basic and applied research and practical aspects such as living conditions, agriculture, forestry, and health. The journal is published for the International Society of Biometeorology, and most membership categories include a subscription to the Journal.

The International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health serves as a multidisciplinary forum for original reports on exposure assessment and the reactions to and consequences of human exposure to the biological, chemical, and physical environment. Research reports, short communications, reviews, scientific comments, technical notes, and editorials will be peer-reviewed before acceptance for publication. High priority will be given to articles on epidemiological aspects of environmental toxicology, health risk assessments, susceptible (sub) populations, human biomonitoring, environment and health-related infections, occupational and environmental medicine, and public health aspects of exposure-related outcomes.

The Journal of Marine and Island Cultures, an international journal, is the official journal of the Institution for Marine and Island Cultures, Republic of Korea. The Journal of Marine and Island Cultures publishes peer-reviewed, original research papers, reviews, reports, and comments covering all aspects of the humanities and cultural issues pertaining to the marine and island environment.
