Histories of People and Place

ISSN: 2833-4299eISSN: 2833-4302

The International Journal of Regional and Local History aims to publish high-quality academic articles which address the history of regions and localities in the medieval, early-modern and modern eras. Regional and local are defined in broad terms, encouraging their examination in both urban and rural contexts, and as administrative, cultural and geographical entities. Regional histories may transcend both local and national boundaries, and offer a means of interrogating the temporality of such structures. Such histories might broaden understandings arrived at through a national focus or help develop agendas for future exploration.

The subject matter of regional and local histories invites a number of methodological approaches including oral history, comparative history, cultural history and history from below.  We welcome contributions situated in these methodological frameworks but are also keen to elicit inter-disciplinary work which seeks to understand the history of regions or localities through the methodologies of geography, sociology or cultural studies.

The journal also publishes book reviews and review articles on themes relating to regional or local history.

The Annals of Statistics

ISSN: 0090-5364eISSN: 2168-8966

The Annals of Statistics aim to publish research papers of highest quality reflecting the many facets of contemporary statistics. Primary emphasis is placed on importance and originality, not on formalism. The journal aims to cover all areas of statistics, especially mathematical statistics and applied & interdisciplinary statistics. Of course many of the best papers will touch on more than one of these general areas, because the discipline of statistics has deep roots in mathematics, and in substantive scientific fields.Mathematical StatisticsMathematics provides the language in which models, the properties of statistical methods and computation algorithms are formulated. It is essential for rigor, coherence, clarity and understanding. Consequently, our policy is to continue to play a special role in presenting research at the forefront of mathematical statistics, especially theoretical advances that are likely to have a significant impact on statistical methodology, computation or understanding.Applied and Interdisciplinary StatisticsSubstantive fields are essential for continued vitality of statistics since they provide the motivation and direction for most of the future developments in statistics. We thus intend to publish papers relating to the role of statistics in interdisciplinary investigations in all fields of natural, medical, technical and social science.

International Journal of Environmental Studies

ISSN: 0020-7233eISSN: 1029-0400

For more than 30 years, the International Journal of Environmental Studies has been pre-eminent in its field. The environment is understood to comprise the natural and the man-made, and their interactions; including such matters as pollution, health effects, analytical methods, political approaches, social impacts etc. Papers favouring an interdisciplinary approach are preferred, because the evidence of 30 years appears to be that many intellectual tools and many causes and effects are at issue in any environmental problem - and its solution. This does not mean that a single focus or a narrow view is unwelcome; provided always that the evidence is indicated and the method is robust. Pragmatic decision-making and applicable policies are subjects of interest, together with the problems in establishing facts about dynamic systems where long periods of observation and precise measurement may be difficult to secure. In other words, a systems or holistic approach to the environment and a scientific analysis are complementary, and the distinction between 'hard' and 'soft' science is bridged in most of the papers published. These may be on any item in the agenda of environmental science: land, water, food, conservation, population, risk analysis, energy, economics of ecological and non-ecological approaches, social advocacy of arguments for change, legal measures, implications of urbanism, energy choices, waste disposal, recycling, transport systems and other issues of mass society. There is concern also for marginal areas, under-developed societies, minorities, species loss; and indeed no element of the subject of environmental studies, seen in an international and interactive mode, is excluded.Peer Review StatementAny paper offered to the International Journal of Environmental Studies will be assessed by peer review process.DisclaimerTaylor & Francis make every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the 8220;Content8221;) contained in its publications. Today's mining of mineral resources faces the challenges related to the more complex extraction conditions, e.g. great depths, natural hazards, environmental restrictions, which all increase the production costs. This is the reason why a novel approach towards the mining sector focuses on the development of environment friendly, clean technologies of minerals extraction and processing. In this respect much attention is given to the development of Clean Coal Technologies addressing also the increasing demand for energy carriers and the challenges concerning the emission limits in mining and energy sector. Therefore, the papers related to the application of the innovative Clean Coal Technologies, like coal gasification in surface and underground reactors, co-gasification of coal with biomass and waste materials, highly efficient combustion, hydrogenation, polygeneration as well as novel catalysts and thermodynamic aspects of thermochemical conversion of solid fuels are also welcome.

Many environmental issues are an inseparable part of any kind of mining activity and influence overall economic system of mining industry. Sustainable management of environment in any way affected by mining activity has crucial influence on a matter of national environmental significance in countries where mining of fossil fuels and valuable minerals is under development. That is why Journal of Sustainable Mining covers also topics related to Environmental Protection at Industrial Areas; Safe waste disposal and Post-mining land reclamation including recently raised problems caused by NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials) that are inherent in exploitations of many kinds of natural resources.

Nurse Education in Practice

ISSN: 1471-5953eISSN: 1873-5223

Nurse Education in Practice enables lecturers and practitioners to both share and disseminate evidence that demonstrates the actual practice of education as it is experienced in the realities of their respective work environments, that is both in the University/faculty and clinical settings. It is supportive of new authors and is at the forefront in publishing individual and collaborative papers that demonstrate the link between education and practice.Nursing is a discipline that is grounded in its practice origins - nurse educators utilise research-based evidence to promote good practice in education in all its fields. A strength of this journal is that it seeks to promote the development of a body of evidence to underpin the foundation of nurse education practice, as well as promoting and publishing education focused papers from other health care professions which have the same underpinning philosophy.Case studies and innovative developments that demonstrate how nursing and health care educators teach and facilitate learning, together with reflection and action that seeks to transform their professional practice will be promoted. The opportunity to stimulate debate is encouraged as is the promotion of evidence-based nursing education internationally.New sections:Learning and teaching in practicePapers which focus on nursing education in the clinical/practice environment, from clinical staff involved in the education of student nurses in practice, as well as educators involved in the development of the workforce through post-qualifying education and training initiatives, are welcomed. It is essential that, as in other areas of nursing education, the evidence-base to education in the clinical environment is developed, where student nurses learn to become nurses; and professional caring practitioners develop and maintain their own knowledge and skills in order to transform the way they develop and deliver quality care to their patients and clients. One field that this is especially visible is known as Practice Development.Midwifery EducationIn keeping with the overall aims and scope of the journal Nurse Education in Practice (NEP), the midwifery section focuses upon education at an international level. The editorial team wish to encourage submission of papers that relate to midwifery which demonstrate:• Innovation and development of education;• Creativity in teaching and learning strategies;• Advancement of practice-based education;• Collaborative education initiatives between women and midwives;• Delivery of education within the maternity services.Submit your paper online at http://ees.elsevier.com/nep. The Lancet Planetary Health

eISSN: 2542-5196
DOAJ Logo

The Lancet Planetary Health is a monthly, open access, online-only title in The Lancet's growing family of specialty journals. Building on the foundation of The Rockefeller Foundation-Lancet Commission on planetary health, the journal is committed to publishing high-quality original Research Articles, Editorials, Comments, and Correspondence that contribute to defining and advancing planetary health worldwide.

Planetary health has been defined as the health of the human civilisation and the state of the natural systems on which it depends.

To explain this idea in simple terms we need to think of humanity as one of the key driving forces of global environmental change. We live on a planet that is shaped by the activity of human beings. We have benefited from the exploitation of the natural resources of the environment, and this has allowed us to develop, flourish, and to improve our health. But, we have now gone beyond a sustainable limit. The planet we live in is in grave danger. Species are under pressure. The environmental changes to the climate, the water, the land, and ecosystems are challenging life on the Earth with serious implications for our health and wellbeing. The way we think about the planet needs to be revised and with it the approach we take to interact with it.

It is against this backdrop that we welcome The Lancet Planetary Health. In keeping with our other journals, The Lancet Planetary Health will offer rapid publication of research online within 8-12 weeks from submission. We invite all original research submissions that have the potential to change or challenge the interplay between the environment and human health. We take a broad and inclusive approach to planetary health, and we especially wish to emphasise our interest in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.

Submissions are subjected to The Lancet's usual rigorous standards of external and statistical peer review, and are edited by experienced copy editors to the highest standards. All original research remains the property of the author, and reuse by others is permitted under either CC BY or CC BY-NC-ND Creative Commons licences, depending on authors' preferences or funding bodies' mandates.

For full details of how to submit your paper, including methods of funding, please visit http://ees.elsevier.com/tlplanetaryhealth. Read more about the scope and aims of this exciting new journal at www.thelancet.com/planetary-health.
