Journal of World Languages

ISSN: 2169-8252eISSN: 2169-8260
DOAJ Logo
The  Journal of World Languages explores the linguistic, communicative and socio-cultural implications of the global spread of major languages and the impact this is having on the world’s linguistic mapping.  Recognizing that the phenomenon of becoming a world language encompasses a growing number of languages with significant implications for the development of these languages, the  Journal of World Languages encourages a comparative approach to the study of the roles of education, the media, the economy, etc.  in contributing to the growth of a world language.

The Journal of World Languages welcomes papers on topics addressing questions such as those listed below:

  • What is a "world language": international? global? Or are these different?
  • How does being a world language impact on local identities, whether ethnic, national, or socio-economic?
  • What is the effect of language technology on the process?
  • What is the effect of the worldwide growth of a language on the writing system, and the distance between speech and writing?
  • What is the effect of world language on multimodal communication?
  • What is the role of language planning:
    (i) systemic: reform of script, regulation of grammar or vocabulary;
    (ii) institutional: language education policy?
  • What are typical speakers' (users') attitudes to the phenomenon:
    (i) L1 (i.e., native speakers of a world language);
    (ii) L2 (i.e., non-native speakers of a world language)?
  • What variation is associated with growth towards "world language" status:
    (i) Dialectal, i.e., user-based variation?
(ii) Diatypic, i.e., use-based variation (such as register)?
  • What are the implications of the "world language" phenomenon for a general linguistic theory?

The  Journal of World Languages is a cross-disciplinary journal whose coverage of the effects of globalization on languages extends coverage to all world languages.

Psychology, Health & Medicine

ISSN: 1354-8506eISSN: 1465-3966

iOpenAccess option now availablePsychology, Health & Medicine provides a forum to report on issues of psychology and health in practice. The journal reaches an international audience, highlighting the variation and similarities within different settings. Examining the wide range of applied health and illness issues and how they incorporate psychological knowledge, understanding, theory and intervention, the journal reflects the growing recognition of psychosocial issues as they affect health planning, medical care, disease reaction, intervention and management. For many years theoretical research was very distant from applied understanding. The emerging movement in health psychology, changes in medical care provision and training, and consumer awareness of health issues all contribute to a growing need for applied research. This journal focuses on practical applications of theory, research and experience and provides a bridge between academic knowledge and health care practice.ReadershipThe journal is aimed directly at health psychologists, general psychologists, and health care workers such as hospital and community doctors, social workers, planners and managers. The journal will be accessible and of use to both the academy and the professionals.Peer Review IntegrityAll research articles in this journal, including those in special issues, special sections or supplements, have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two independent referees.DisclaimerTaylor & Francis makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the Content ) contained in its publications. Territory, Politics, Governance

ISSN: 2162-2671eISSN: 2162-268X

Territory, Politics, Governance is an interdisciplinary journal from the Regional Studies Association.  It is committed to the development of theory and research in territorial politics and the governance of space.  This journal creates a platform on which to explore the interface between territory, politics, economy, identity and the organisation of political space. It confronts topical and emergent issues of world economic and political concern. The journal publishes original, high quality international scholarship from this growing, international and increasingly vibrant field directed at a worldwide academic audience and at policy makers, activists and other communities of practice.

The journal is under consideration for inclusion in Social Science Citation Index and will have a significant circulation footprint from Volume 1, Issue 1 as it is distributed with its sister journals, Regional Studies and Spatial Economic Analysis. It will be essential reading for academics and practitioners alike.

With the advantages of being a new journal with shorter average turnaround from submission to review to decision the journal aims to publish two issues in 2013, three in 2014, moving to quarterly from 2015.

To be accepted, a paper must adhere to a high standard of scholarship and make an important contribution to this emerging field. Original paper submissions are sought from political scientists, geographers, sociologists, planners, lawyers, humanists and others working on territorial politics and the governance of space.

We encourage contributions that develop the field and promote communication across spatial and disciplinary borders. The following examples illustrate some of the subjects of interest:

• Links between territories and politics across time and space
• Globalization and geopolitical imaginations
• Territorial identities and politics
• Theories of socio-spatial relations such as territories, places, scales, and networks
• Territory, planning, and development
• Multi-level governance, federalism, and supranational organizations
• Territories of resistance
• Spaces of postcolonial governance

The European Journal of Psychiatry

ISSN: 0213-6163eISSN: 2340-4469

The European Journal of Psychiatry is a quarterly publication founded in 1986 and directed by Professor A. Seva until his death in 2004. It was originally intended to report "the scientific activity of European psychiatrists" and "to bring about a greater degree of communication" among them. However, "since scientific knowledge has no geographical or cultural boundaries, is open to contributions from all over the world". These principles are maintained in the new stage of the journal, now expanded with the help of an American editor. The journal also keeps to the original foundations of "an eclectic orientation in its scientific approach freed largely from ideological burdens". It invites contributions in areas related to biological, psychological and social sciences, and the aim is to communicate the research in the causes, consequences, treatment and care of all forms of mental disorder. It will be of interest to psychiatrists, psychologists, social scientists, nurses and others engaged in mental health professions, together with basic neurobiological researchers. Topics covered will include epidemiology of mental disorders, clinical aetiological research, post mortem pathological and neurochemical studies, treatment trials and evaluation of services. The over-riding criteria for publication are originality, a high scientific quality and interest to a wide audience of those concerned with all aspects of mental illness. All original papers will be refereed by independent experts in the field. Review articles and monographs designed to bring the reader up to date with research in the area will be a feature of the journal. There is a Book Review section and correspondence to the editor will be considered for publication. The articles are published in English, but a Spanish language edition was initiated in 2002. The journal is distributed to Faculties of Medicine, Departments of Psychiatry and Documentation Centres all over the world. The abbreviated title is Eur. J. Psychiat. and it should be used in bibliography.

Critical Inquiry in Language Studies

ISSN: 1542-7587eISSN: 1542-7595

Critical Inquiry in Language Studies: An International Journal (CILS) is the peer-reviewed journal of the International Society for Language Studies. Language studies overlaps fields of applied linguistics, language policy, language planning, modern languages and literatures, education, anthropology, sociology, history, political science, psychology, and cultural studies (including related fields, such as law, media, and information technology).CILS focuses on critical discourse and research in language matters, broadly conceived, that is generated from qualitative, critical pedagogical, and emergent paradigms. In these paradigms, language is considered to be a socially constituted cultural construct that gives shape to, and at the same time is shaped by, the larger social, political, and historical contexts of its use. The primary purpose of the journal is to provide a forum for discussion of the research from such emerging paradigms and at the same time to bridge arbitrary disciplinary territories in which it is being done. Peer Review Policy: All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by three anonymous referees.Publication office: Taylor & Francis, Inc., 325 Chestnut Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
