The IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing  addresses the growing field of applications in Earth observations and remote sensing, and also provides a venue for the rapidly expanding special issues that are being sponsored by the IEEE Geosciences and Remote Sensing Society. The journal draws upon the experience of the highly successful “IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing” and provide a complementary medium for the wide range of topics in applied earth observations. The ‘Applications’ areas encompasses the societal benefit areas of the Global Earth Observations Systems of Systems (GEOSS) program. Through deliberations over two years, ministers from 50 countries agreed to identify nine areas where Earth observation could positively impact the quality of life and health of their respective countries. Some of these are areas not traditionally addressed in the IEEE context. These include biodiversity, health and climate. Yet it is the skill sets of IEEE members, in areas such as observations, communications, computers, signal processing, standards and ocean engineering, that form the technical underpinnings of GEOSS. Thus, the Journal attracts a broad range of interests that serves both present members in new ways and expands the IEEE visibility into new areas.

This journal is 100% open access, which means that all content is freely available without charge to users or their institutions. All articles are currently published under Creative Commons licenses (either CCBY or CCBY-NC-ND)*, and the author retains copyright. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles published under CCBY, or use them for any other lawful purpose, as long as proper attribution is given.    Articles published under CCBY-NC-ND are also available to users under the same conditions as CCBY, but the reuse cannot be for commercial purposes or change the work in any way. 

Open access is provided through the payment of an article processing charge (APC) paid after acceptance. APCs are often financed by an author's institution or the funder supporting their research.

The articles in this journal are peer reviewed in accordance with the requirements set forth in the IEEE PSPB Operations Manual (sections 8.2.1.C & 8.2.2.A). Each published article was reviewed by a minimum of two independent reviewers using a single-blind peer review process, where the identities of the reviewers are not known to the authors, but the reviewers know the identities of the authors. Articles will be screened for plagiarism before acceptance.

Corresponding authors from low-income countries are eligible for waived or reduced APCs.

Flow Measurement and Instrumentation is dedicated to disseminating the latest research results on all aspects of flow measurement, in both closed conduits and open channels. The design of flow measurement systems involves a wide variety of multidisciplinary activities including modelling the flow sensor, the fluid flow and the sensor/fluid interactions through the use of computation techniques; the development of advanced transducer systems and their associated signal processing and the laboratory and field assessment of the overall system under ideal and disturbed conditions.FMI is the essential forum for critical information exchange, and contributions are particularly encouraged in the following areas of interest:Modelling: the application of mathematical and computational modelling to the interaction of fluid dynamics with flowmeters, including flowmeter behaviour, improved flowmeter design and installation problems. Application of CAD/CAE techniques to flowmeter modelling are eligible.Design and development: the detailed design of the flowmeter head and/or signal processing aspects of novel flowmeters. Emphasis is given to papers identifying new sensor configurations, multisensor flow measurement systems, non-intrusive flow metering techniques and the application of microelectronic techniques in smart or intelligent systems.Calibration techniques: including descriptions of new or existing calibration facilities and techniques, calibration data from different flowmeter types, and calibration intercomparison data from different laboratories.Installation effect data: dealing with the effects of non-ideal flow conditions on flowmeters. Conservation Biology welcomes submissions that address the science and practice of conserving Earth's biological diversity. We encourage submissions that emphasize issues germane to any of Earth's ecosystems or geographic regions and that apply diverse approaches to analyses and problem solving. Nevertheless, manuscripts with relevance to conservation that transcends the particular ecosystem, species, or situation described will be prioritized for publication. Conservation Biology accepts manuscripts in the following intended categories. The word limit includes all text from the Abstract through the Literature Cited; it does not include legends for tables and figures or the body of tables. Manuscripts that substantially exceed the following word counts will be returned. 1. Contributed Papers (3000-6000 words). Papers that report on original theoretical, empirical, or synthetic research in the natural or social sciences. 2. Research Notes (< 3000 words). Similar to Contributed Papers, but results and inferences may be more focused or preliminary. 3. Reviews (< 7500 words). Comprehensive reviews of a given topic. 4. Essays (< 6000 words). Comparatively speculative yet well-argued and well-documented papers that may offer personal perspectives. 5. Conservation Practice and Policy (< 5000 words). Papers that describe applications of conservation science to specific goals for management, policy, or education. Papers may address either successful applications or surprising outcomes that provided opportunities for learning. 6. Comments (< 2000 words). Papers that respond to material previously published in Conservation Biology. 7. Diversity (< 2000 words). Short opinion pieces on concepts, methods, or applications. 8. Letters (< 1000 words). Communications regarding topics of immediate interest to readers, including observations on controversial subjects or previously published papers. 9. Book Reviews are by invitation only. We encourage authors who are uncertain whether their manuscript is appropriate for Conservation Biology to send a title and abstract to the Editor in Chief (efleishman@conbio.org) for preliminary evaluation.

Studies in Language (SL) provides a forum for the discussion of issues in contemporary linguistics from discourse-pragmatic, functional and typological perspectives. Areas of central concern are: discourse grammar; syntactic, morphological and semantic universals; pragmatics; grammaticalization and grammaticalization theory; and the description of problems in individual languages from a discourse-pragmatic, functional, and typological perspective. For regular article contributions, the priority of a typological and cross-linguistic perspective is high: Articles on one language are welcome if of interest to the generalist/universalist. Likewise, interdisciplinary studies are welcome to the extent that they have the same perspective. In addition to regular articles, SL welcomes short contributions that report on new discoveries in little-known and/or endangered languages, emphasizing description over theory and comparison, and that are published in a special section to the journal. Peabody Journal of Education (PJE) publishes quarterly symposia in the broad area of education, including but not limited to topics related to formal institutions serving students in early childhood, pre-school, primary, elementary, intermediate, secondary, post-secondary, and tertiary education. The scope of the journal includes special kinds of educational institutions, such as those providing vocational training or the schooling for students with disabilities. PJE also welcomes manuscript submissions that concentrate on informal education dynamics, those outside the immediate framework of institutions, and education matters that are important to nations outside the United States. Finally, it includes topics that are linked to the social and organizational context in which formal and informal education take place.The Editor cooperates with groups of scholars to present multifaceted, integrated expositions of important topics. A given issue of PJE may contain contributions from social scientists, historians, philosophers, attorneys, practitioners, and policymakers.Unsolicited proposals for special issues--including designation of participating scholars and an outline of articles--will be accepted for review. Additionally, the Editor cooperates with Editorial Board members to identify potential topics, Guest Editors, and contributors. For cohesion, and because so many applications rely on various theoretical properties of finite fields, it is essential that there be a core of high-quality papers on theoretical aspects. In addition, since much of the vitality of the area comes from computational problems, the journal publishes papers on computational aspects of finite fields as well as on algorithms and complexity of finite field-related methods.

The journal also publishes papers in various applications including, but not limited to, algebraic coding theory, cryptology, combinatorial design theory, pseudorandom number generation, and linear recurring sequences. There are other areas of application to be included, but the important point is that finite fields play a nontrivial role in the theory, application, or algorithm.

Finite Fields and Their Applications is published four times per year and maintains very strict refereeing standards, accepting only those papers which receive excellent referee reports.
