Journal for the Study of Spirituality

ISSN: 2044-0243eISSN: 2044-0251

Journal for the Study of Spirituality is a peer-reviewed journal which creates a unique interdisciplinary, inter-professional and cross-cultural forum where researchers, scholars and others engaged in the study and practices of spirituality can share and debate the research, knowledge, wisdom and insight associated with spirituality and contemporary spirituality studies.

The  British Association for the Study of Spirituality (BASS) organises a biennial international conference and welcomes enquiries about membership from those interested in the study of spirituality in the UK and worldwide.

The journal is concerned with what spirituality means, and how it is expressed, in individuals’ lives and communities and in professional practice settings; and with the impact and implications of spirituality in, and on, social policy, organizational practices and personal and professional development. The journal recognises that spirituality and spiritual values can be expressed and studied in secular contexts, including in scientific and professional practice settings, as well as within faith and wisdom traditions.

Thus, Journal for the Study of Spirituality particularly welcomes contributions that:

  • identify new agendas for research into spirituality within and across subject disciplines and professions;
  • explore different epistemological and methodological approaches to the study of spirituality;
  • introduce comparative perspectives and insights drawn from different cultures and/or professional practice settings;
  • aim to apply and develop sustained reflection, investigation and critique in relation to spirituality and spiritual practices;
  • critically examine the values and presuppositions underpinning different forms of spirituality and spiritual practices;
  • incorporate different forms of writing and expressions of spirituality.

Journal for the Study of Spirituality includes:

  • Research papers based on completed research or substantial work-in progress (epistemological and methodological approaches should be clarified for the benefit of readers from different disciplines and cultures);
  • Scholarly articles exploring understandings of spirituality, including within professional practice settings;
  • Critically reflexive and/or autoethnographic accounts of the experience or practice of spirituality;
  • Critique/discussion papers designed to generate debate from one issue to the next;
  • Book reviews of recent publications;
  • Occasional review essays focussing on established texts in the field;
  • Reports of recent relevant conferences;
  • Brief summaries of completed doctoral theses in the field (online only).

Psychology, Health & Medicine

ISSN: 1354-8506eISSN: 1465-3966

iOpenAccess option now availablePsychology, Health & Medicine provides a forum to report on issues of psychology and health in practice. The journal reaches an international audience, highlighting the variation and similarities within different settings. Examining the wide range of applied health and illness issues and how they incorporate psychological knowledge, understanding, theory and intervention, the journal reflects the growing recognition of psychosocial issues as they affect health planning, medical care, disease reaction, intervention and management.For many years theoretical research was very distant from applied understanding. Drug Discovery Today: Disease Models

ISSN: 1740-6757

The Drug Discovery Today reviews collection provides a resource of review content aligning the key output of human molecular medicine with the specific requirements of the drug discovery process. It is designed to systematically cover the essential elements of molecular medicine and drug discovery, in a manner that has relevance to those actually working on the discovery and development of new drugs. This collection will evolve to create a highly structured database and will act as a one-stop-shop for high quality content.Drug Discovery Today: Disease Models discusses the non-human experimental models through which inference is drawn regarding the molecular aetiology and pathogenesis of human disease. It provides critical analysis and evaluation of which models can genuinely inform the research community about the direct process of human disease, those which may have value in basic toxicology, and those which are simply designed for effective expression and raw characterisation.Other titles in this series include:Drug Discovery Today: Disease MechanismsDrug Discovery Today: Therapeutic StrategiesDrug Discovery Today: TechnologiesThere will be four issues each year.The Drug Discovery Today reviews collection is only available online.Ethics in Publishing: General StatementThe Editor(s) and Publisher of this Journal believe that there are fundamental principles underlying scholarly or professional publishing. While this may not amount to a formal 'code of conduct', these fundamental principles with respect to the authors' paper are that the paper should: i) be the authors' own original work, which has not been previously published elsewhere, ii) reflect the authors' own research and analysis and do so in a truthful and complete manner, iii) properly credit the meaningful contributions of co-authors and co-researchers, iv) not be submitted to more than one journal for consideration, and v) be appropriately placed in the context of prior and existing research. Of equal importance are ethical guidelines dealing with research methods and research funding, including issues dealing with informed consent, research subject privacy rights, conflicts of interest, and sources of funding. While it may not be possible to draft a 'code' that applies adequately to all instances and circumstances, we believe it useful to outline our expectations of authors and procedures that the Journal will employ in the event of questions concerning author conduct. With respect to conflicts of interest, the Publisher now requires authors to declare any conflicts of interest that relate to papers accepted for publication in this Journal. A conflict of interest may exist when an author or the author's institution has a financial or other relationship with other people or organizations that may inappropriately influence the author's work. A conflict can be actual or potential and full disclosure to the Journal is the safest course. All submissions to the Journal must include disclosure of all relationships that could be viewed as presenting a potential conflict of interest. The Journal may use such information as a basis for editorial decisions and may publish such disclosures if they are believed to be important to readers in judging the manuscript. A decision may be made by the Journal not to publish on the basis of the declared conflict.For more information, please refer to: http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/authorshome.authors/conflictsofinterest

African Historical Review

ISSN: 1753-2523eISSN: 1753-2531

The African Historical Review is the successor to Kleio: A Journal of Historical Studies from Africa, which was published by the Department of History at the University of South Africa (Unisa) for more than thirty-five years. It therefore has a long and distinguished history. Originally conceived as a research and teaching forum for histories taught in the Department and to promote the work of students and staff, the journal has more recently been transformed into a publication in which high quality articles on a wide variety of historical subjects have appeared. The outstanding level of professional research and writing displayed in the journal has been recognised internationally, and from 2004 it became an accredited academic journal in South Africa, earning subsidy from the Department of Education. It is being relaunched as the African Historical Review in order to attract both a broader readership and contributor base and to showcase scholarship beyond southern Africa thus emphasising its intention to articulate southern African studies with continental African scholarship. The African Historical Review is independent of any professional society or association. Its mission, as befits its base in Africa and its new name, is to be transdisciplinary, responsive to theoretical developments in research relating to the continent of Africa and within fields closely linked to historical and heritage studies (including teaching) more generally. We welcome contributions from both established and younger scholars on themes from or in Africa, and would like to encourage innovative writing and research on a variety of topics and with an array of theoretical frameworks. This journal is accredited with the South African Department of Education.Routledge HistoryPromote Your Page Too.

DOAJ Logo

The idea to publish a scientific journal of three Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia) on the issues related to roads and bridges, which was born at the beginning of 2005, was implemented at last. In the first volume of the journal Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian scientists investigate topical issues of road and bridge construction, repair, maintenance and traffic safety. The journal is the first one in the Baltic countries dealing with the issues mentioned above. We believe that in the future scientists from other foreign countries will become authors of research articles, and the topics of articles will range widely. The periodicity of the journal (4 volumes per year), requires an expeditious and responsible work of the authors, editors and all members of the Editorial Board. On behalf of the Editorial Board I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Lithuanian and Estonian Road Administrations, the state company “Latvian State Roads“, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Riga Technical University and Tallinn University of Technology as well as the Baltic Road Association for supporting and financing the publication of the journal. I believe that this journal will disseminate the latest scientific findings, theoretical and experimental research on roads and bridges and will be extremely useful for young scientists. I hereby invite You to become active authors, readers and subscribers of the new journal.
