Journal Guide

The Journal of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology aims to publish high quality, original research articles, expository tutorial papers and review papers as well as short, critical comments on technical issues associated with the analysis of cellular information.The research papers will be technical presentations of new assertions, discoveries and tools, intended for a narrower specialist community. The tutorials, reviews and critical commentary will be targeted at a broader readership of biologists who are interested in using computers but are not knowledgeable about scientific computing, and equally, computer scientists who have an interest in biology but are not familiar with current thrusts nor the language of biology. Such carefully chosen tutorials and articles should greatly accelerate the rate of entry of these new creative scientists into the field.

The Journal of Biological Chemistry publishes papers based on original research that are judged to make a novel and important contribution to understanding the molecular and cellular basis of biological processes.

Since its foundation, in 1973, the Journal of Biological Physics has served the community of physicists researching the domains of biology, applying sophisticated theoretical, computational and experimental tools to study biological processes, systems and materials.The journal publishes papers which use the tools of physics, both experimental and theoretical, in innovative ways to study biological problems, as well as research aimed at better understanding the physical principles underlying biological processes.All areas of biological physics are addressed, from the molecular level, through the mesoscale of membranes and cells, up to the macroscopic level of tissues, organisms and  populations. Journal of Biological Rhythms primarily offers papers describing original research into all aspects of biological rhythms. Emphasis is placed on circadian and seasonal rhythms, but papers on other rhythms are also published. In addition to original research papers, the Journal publishes reviews, commentaries, editorials, letters, and other items of interest related to biological rhythms. Research in circadian, seasonal, and other biological rhythms is interdisciplinary. Authors have backgrounds in, and use the approaches of, ecology, neurobiology and behavior, psychology and psychiatry, endocrinology, developmental biology, pharmacology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and mathematical modeling. The work presented is relevant to each of these disciplines, and others. Rhythms are placed within the context of the functional significance of these rhythms for the health and well-being of relevant organisms, including humans.Every other month, the Journal presents work at the leading edge of understanding the basic nature, mechanisms, and functions underlying the generation, entrainment, and expression of biological rhythms in plants, animals, and humans.

It is indexed in Current Contents and other standard Biological and Medical databases. The Journal of Biosciences began in 1934 as the Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Sciences (Section B). In 1978 it split into Proceedings-Animal Sciences, Proceedings-Plant Sciences and Proceedings-Experimental Biology. Proceedings-Experimental Biology was renamed Journal of Biosciences in 1979; in 1991, it merged with Proceedings-Animal Sciences and Proceedings-Plant Sciences.
