Biotechnology Journal is the new, international resource for both biotechnology researchers and professionals in related disciplines. Fully comprehensive in its scope, the journal publishes strictly peer-reviewed papers covering novel aspects and methods in all areas of biotechnology. Special attention is also paid to the public, legal, ethical and cultural aspects of biotechnological research in the Forum section. Most issues are devoted to a special topic, providing the latest comprehensive information on the most crucial areas of research and technological advances. Alongside each highlighted topic, the journal contains original papers in the form of research articles, short communications and technical reports, illustrating the latest research results. BTJ welcomes submission of papers in areas including DNA/protein engineering, all -omics fields (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, systems biology etc.), bioinformatics (algorithms and modeling), imaging, analytical biotech (sensors/detectors for analytes/macromolecules), plant/agricultural, food or environmental biotechnology, health and therapeutical biotechnology (including antisense/siRNAs, enzymes, peptides ...), regenerative medicine (stem cells, tissue engineering and biomaterials), translational immunology (antibody engineering, xenotransplantation, T-cell therapies), and biosafety or biosecurity. BTJ promotes a special emphasis on:

Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry

ISSN: 0885-4513eISSN: 1470-8744

Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry has been published continuously since its creation in 1986 (previous to that date it was called the Journal of Applied Biochemistry and was published from 1979 to 1985). Today it enjoys a superb track record, attracting distinguished authors from academia and industry from all over the world, reflecting its international status. Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry is now published bi-monthly by Wiley-Blackwell, confirming the journal's dedication to change and commitment to rapid publication of high-quality, cutting-edge research at the interface between life sciences and their translation. It publishes new concepts in technology/methodology of relevance to the biological, biomedical, agricultural and environmental sciences. Promising advances in life sciences are leading to the identification of the molecular sources of disease and the creation of new generation of medicines for diseases for which there are currently either no therapies or inadequate treatments. Therapeutic proteins and antibodies are already having a significant impact in treatment of disease. Therapeutic genes and viruses promise to have an even bigger impact on human healthcare. DNA vaccine and gene-therapy are under intense development and new research areas such as tissue engineering, stem-cell therapeutics, germ-line therapy and regenerative medicines are expected to create a new wave of medicines that will make today's treatment of diseases look distinctively primitive. All this provides major challenges to life scientists and engineers engaged in discoveries and their translation to practical outcomes. Turning a new discovery into a successful application has become a highly integrated, multidisciplinary activity, and Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry is uniquely placed to provide an international forum for the dissemination of information and discussion by researchers working across the many subject groups. The journal welcomes submissions of original articles on the following topics: nucleic acids and proteins engineering and purification; genes peptides and proteins therapy; biomaterials; biological modeling; stem cells and tissue engineering; bio-imaging; bio-sensors; biotechnology of food and natural compounds. Original papers and reviews as well as special issues can be also invited by the Editorial Board. Papers are easily submitted online at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/bab.

Cancer Biology & Therapy

ISSN: 1538-4047eISSN: 1555-8576
DOAJ Logo

Cancer, the second leading cause of death, is a heterogenous group of over 100 diseases. Cancer is characterized by disordered and deregulated cellular and stromal proliferation accompanied by reduced cell death with the ability to survive under stresses of nutrient and growth factor deprivation, hypoxia, and loss of cell-to-cell contacts. At the molecular level, cancer is a genetic disease that develops due to the accumulation of mutations over time in somatic cells. The phenotype includes genomic instability and chromosomal aneuploidy that allows for acceleration of genetic change. Malignant transformation and tumor progression of any cell requires immortalization, loss of checkpoint control, deregulation of growth, and survival. A tremendous amount has been learned about the numerous cellular and molecular genetic changes and the host-tumor interactions that accompany tumor development and progression. It is the goal of the field of Molecular Oncology to use this knowledge to understand cancer pathogenesis and drug action, as well as to develop more effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for cancer. This includes preventative strategies as well as approaches to treat metastases. With the availability of the human genome sequence and genomic and proteomic approaches, a wealth of tools and resources are generating even more information. The challenge will be to make biological sense out of the information, to develop appropriate models and hypotheses and to translate information for the clinicians and the benefit of their patients. Cancer Biology & Therapy aims to publish original research on the molecular basis of cancer, including articles with translational relevance to diagnosis or therapy. We will include timely reviews covering the broad scope of the journal. The journal will also publish op-ed pieces and meeting reports of interest. The goal is to foster communication and rapid exchange of information through timely publication of important results using traditional as well as electronic formats. The journal and the outstanding Editorial Board will strive to maintain the highest standards for excellence in all activities to generate a valuable resource.
