The African Historical Review is the successor to Kleio: A Journal of Historical Studies from Africa, which was published by the Department of History at the University of South Africa (Unisa) for more than thirty-five years. It therefore has a long and distinguished history. Originally conceived as a research and teaching forum for histories taught in the Department and to promote the work of students and staff, the journal has more recently been transformed into a publication in which high quality articles on a wide variety of historical subjects have appeared. The outstanding level of professional research and writing displayed in the journal has been recognised internationally, and from 2004 it became an accredited academic journal in South Africa, earning subsidy from the Department of Education. It is being relaunched as the African Historical Review in order to attract both a broader readership and contributor base and to showcase scholarship beyond southern Africa thus emphasising its intention to articulate southern African studies with continental African scholarship. The African Historical Review is independent of any professional society or association. Its mission, as befits its base in Africa and its new name, is to be transdisciplinary, responsive to theoretical developments in research relating to the continent of Africa and within fields closely linked to historical and heritage studies (including teaching) more generally. We welcome contributions from both established and younger scholars on themes from or in Africa, and would like to encourage innovative writing and research on a variety of topics and with an array of theoretical frameworks. Public Organization Review seeks to advance knowledge of public organizations around the world. Its focus is on `public', broadly defined, to include governmental, non-profit, and non-governmental organizations, and their impacts on human life and society, as well as their influence in shaping human civilization. The Review publishes empirical, theoretical, analytical and historical articles of high academic quality that contribute to the advancement of understanding `public' organizations. Of particular interest are (1) studies of public organizations and their administration at all levels of analysis: (2) studies of intra and interorganizational relationships, including interactions with private corporations, non-profit, and non-governmental organizations: (3) studies of state and society, politics and market, social change and public organizations, and globalization and national governance/administration: (4) studies of organizational theory, behavior, change, development, leadership, policy, and management: (5) studies of organization-elite, organizational elite-mass citizens, and public-private sector interface: and (6) studies that further the cause of the common good and contribute to a humane civilization.This journal is significant as it focuses on public organizations at every level anywhere in the world. Social Choice and Welfare explores all aspects, both normative and positive, of welfare economics, collective choice, and strategic interaction. Topics include but are not limited to: preference aggregation, welfare criteria, fairness, justice and equity, rights, inequality and poverty measurement, voting and elections, political games, coalition formation, public goods, mechanism design, networks, matching, optimal taxation, cost-benefit analysis, and experimental investigations related to social choice and voting. As such, the journal is inter-disciplinary and cuts across the boundaries of economics, political science, philosophy, and mathematics. Articles on choice and order theory that include results that can be applied to the above topics are also included in the journal. While it emphasizes theory, the journal also publishes empirical work in the subject area reflecting cross-fertilizing between theoretical and empirical research. Dædalus was founded in 1955 as the Journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and established as a quarterly in 1958.
