The Scandinavian Research Council for Criminology, together with the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish national crime prevention councils, is publishing this forum of Nordic scientific work on criminology and crime prevention. The Journal provides opportunities to publish in a peer-reviewed context much of such scientific work that would not be easily available in standard international sources as it is actively searching for and encouraging Nordic authors to report in English, convinced that there is much scientifically and practically interesting and relevant work that deserves to be published to the benefit of audiences unable to follow work available only in the Nordic languages.Over the past two decades, crime prevention has developed into one of the central topics in modern scientific criminology. Hence the journal aims to combine criminological and crime prevention orientated scientific works.Features include: crime trends violence research prison studies knowledge-based crime policy orientation gender issues economic crime.

The Journal of Semitic Studies was established in 1955 and since then has built up a reputation as one of the leading international academic journals in its field. Semitic Studies has always been understood by the editors to include the modern as well as the ancient Near (Middle) East, with special emphasis on research into the languages and literatures of the area. The editors continue to maintain the policy of ensuring that each volume contains items of interest to Orientalists and Biblical Scholars. Extensive reviews of selected books, as well as general review notices, remain a feature of the Journal.

Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks (ISSN 2224-2708) is an international open access journal on the science and technology of sensor and actuator networks. It publishes regular research papers, reviews (including comprehensive reviews on complete sensor and actuator networks), and short communications. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible. There is no restriction on the length of the papers. The full experimental details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced. There are, in addition, unique features of this journal: Manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas will be particularly welcomed. Electronic files and software regarding the full details of the calculation and experimental procedure, if unable to be published in a normal way, can be deposited as supplementary material.

The Journal of Social Service Research is exclusively devoted to empirical research and its application to the design, delivery, and management of the new social services. The Journal focuses on outcomes-based research and practice, and clearly presents the different types of funded and non-funded state-of-the-art research being carried out in the field. Each issue effectively highlights both the quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The quarterly, peer-reviewed Juvenile and Family Court Journal, published by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges since 1949, focuses on issues of interest to the field of juvenile and family justice, including child abuse and neglect, juvenile delinquency, domestic violence, substance abuse, child custody and visitation, judicial leadership, and related topics. Judges, court administrators, attorneys, social workers, probation and detention officers, child welfare professionals, and many others working in the field rely on the Journal for the latest research and information on best practices concerning issues affecting children and families.

Now in its third decade of publication, the Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal (KIEJ) is an interdisciplinary quarterly journal of the Joseph and Rose Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. It publishes philosophically rigorous and empirically informed articles in all areas of bioethics (broadly construed) and on related issues in practical ethics. Lasers in Medical Science has established itself as the leading international journal in the rapidly expanding field of medical applications of lasers and light. At the 2010 AAPM meeting, Journal Manager Penny Slattery and I, with the participation of Deputy Editors David Rogers and Andy Karellas, presented a 1 1/2 hour workshop on Writing and Reviewing Papers for Medical Physics. The power point slides that were used in the workshop are available here. A substantial audience turned out for the workshop, and the discussion that followed the power-point presentation was lively and insightful. The audience response to the workshop was one more indication of the enthusiasm of AAPM members for their journal, and the interest of medical physicists in general in the expansion of Medical Physics into new areas of imaging and oncology, and in the growth of the journal as the leading publication in medical physics worldwide.
