African (formerly South African) Journal of Marine Science provides an international forum for the publication of original, peer-reviewed contributions in all disciplines of marine research, including reports on new techniques and methods. The scope covers all aspects of marine science, from estuaries and coastal waters to the open ocean, from chemical and physical to biological oceanography, and including fisheries, socio-economic science, co-management, ecosystems and other topical advisory subjects. Contributions from African waters, including the Southern Ocean, are particularly encouraged, although not to the exclusion of those from elsewhere. They may take the form of a paper, a critical review or a short communication. Assessing Writing is a refereed international journal providing a forum for ideas, research and practice on the assessment of written language. Assessing Writing publishes articles, book reviews, conference reports, and academic exchanges concerning writing assessments of all kinds, including traditional ('direct' and standardised forms of) testing of writing, alternative performance assessments (such as portfolios), workplace sampling and classroom assessment. The journal focuses on all stages of the writing assessment process, including needs evaluation, assessment creation, implementation, and validation, and test development; it aims to value all perspectives on writing assessment as process, product and politics (test takers and raters; test developers and agencies; educational administrations; and political motivations). The journal is interested in review essays of key issues in the theory and practice of writing assessment.Assessing Writing embraces internationalism and will attempt to reflect the concerns of teachers, researchers and writing assessment specialists around the world, whatever their linguistic background. Articles are published in English and normally relate to the assessment of English language writing, but articles in English about the assessment of writing in languages other than English will be considered. Ecohydrology & Hydrobiology is an international journal that aims to advance ecohydrology as the study of the interplay between ecological and hydrological processes from molecular to river basin scales, and to promote its implementation as an integrative management tool to harmonize societal needs with biosphere potential.Water is a major driver of biogeochemical evolution and hence of biodiversity and biological productivity (e.g., food production). In human-modified, degraded systems, therefore, regulation of ecohydrological processes is the most relevant way for achieving sustainability.An essential component of ecohydrology is a rigorous understanding of hydrobiology, from ecosystem properties, dynamics and functions to modelling of abiotic and biotic interactions in relation to their hydrological determinants at the basin scale.The journal will publish high-quality science aimed at increasing the understanding of water – biota interplay and exploring how this knowledge can be used to regulate hydrological and biogeochemical processes to enhance the carrying capacity, especially of anthropogenically modified ecosystems. The Journal of Ecotourism seeks to advance the field by examining the social, economic, and ecological aspects of ecotourism at a number of scales, and including regions from around the world. Journal of Ecotourism welcomes conceptual, theoretical, and empirical research, particularly where it contributes to the dissemination of new ideas and models of ecotourism planning, development, management, and good practice. While the focus of the journal rests on a type of tourism based principally on natural history - along with other associated features of the man-land nexus - it will consider papers which investigate ecotourism as part of a broader nature based tourism, as well as those works which compare or contrast ecotourism/ists with other forms of tourism/ists. Medical Hypotheses is a forum for ideas in medicine and related biomedical sciences. It will publish interesting and important theoretical papers that foster the diversity and debate upon which the scientific process thrives. The Aims and Scope of Medical Hypotheses are no different now from what was proposed by the founder of the journal, the late Dr David Horrobin. In his introduction to the first issue of the Journal, he asks 'what sorts of papers will be published in Medical Hypotheses? and goes on to answer 'Medical Hypotheses will publish papers which describe theories, ideas which have a great deal of observational support and some hypotheses where experimental support is yet fragmentary'. Postcolonial Studies is the journal of the Institute of Postcolonial Studies, Melbourne.Postcolonial Studies is the first journal specifically aimed at publishing work which explores the various facets8212;textual, figural, spatial, historical, political and economic8212;of the colonial encounter, and the ways in which this encounter shaped the West and non-West alike.A growing academic literature recognises that the colonial encounter was a seminal event in the history of both the West and the non-Western world, shaping culture and literature, politics and history. North Africa has rarely been treated as a cohesive area of study, even though historical and social links have always been strong, with most of its constituent countries having been part of the Ottoman empire. The Journal of Teaching in Social Work fills a long-standing gap in the social work literature by providing opportunities for creative and able teachers in schools, agency-based training programs, and direct practice to share with their colleagues what experience and systematic study has taught them about successful teaching. Through articles focusing on the teacher, the teaching process, and new contexts of teaching, the journal is an essential forum for teaching and learning processes and the factors affecting their quality. The journal recognizes that all social work practitioners who wish to teach (whatever their specialty) should know the philosophies of teaching and learning as well as educational methods and techniques.
