Journal Guide

The journal publishes original papers of high scientific value in all areas of computational mathematics and cybernetics at the interface between applied mathematics, numerical computation, and applications. Papers that describe and analyze new computational techniques for solving scientific or engineering problems are especially welcome.

Recognizing the world is full of vagueness and uncertainty, this journal has chosen three very focused areas of research:

Nonlinear Analysis: Real World Applications welcomes all research articles of the highest quality with special emphasis on applying techniques of nonlinear analysis to model and to treat nonlinear phenomena with which nature confronts us. An international journal that aims to cover research into the development and analysis of new methods for the numerical solution of partial differential equations, it is intended that it be readily readable by and directed to a broad spectrum of researchers into numerical methods for partial differential equations throughout science and engineering. The numerical methods and techniques themselves are emphasized rather than the specific applications. The Journal seeks to be interdisciplinary, while retaining the common thread of applied numerical analysis.

Numerische Mathematik publishes papers of the very highest quality presenting significantly new and important developments in all areas of Numerical Analysis. 'Numerical Analysis' is here understood in its most general sense, as that part of Mathematics that covers: 1. The conception and mathematical analysis of efficient numerical schemes actually used on computers (the 'core' of Numerical Analysis) 2. Optimization and Control Theory 3. Mathematical Modeling 4. The mathematical aspects of Scientific Computing

Reliable Computing is devoted to various aspects of interval mathematics and reliable numerical computations giving guaranteed properties of computed results. Managed by an international editorial board from Belgium Bulgaria Canada France Germany Japan Russia and the United States it includes various items in the fields of theoretical research computer tools applications interdisciplinary research and other relevant areas. Reliable Computing also publishes proceedings of international conferences such as Interval SCAN etc. The journal includes: original papers surveys and tutorials reports on new computer tools bibliographies reviews of new books letters to the editor information about scientific meetings.

Published in English, the journal RACSAM presents research articles and short papers covering Algebra; Applied Mathematics; Computational Sciences; Geometry and Topology; Mathematical Analysis; Statistics and Operations Research. Each issue also includes short papers of no more than 6 pages, announcing results and containing sketches of the proofs. Also featured are surveys in every mathematical field.

The SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis features research articles of the highest quality employing innovative analytical techniques to treat problems in the natural sciences. Every paper has content that is primarily analytical and that employs mathematical methods in such areas as partial differential equations, the calculus of variations, functional analysis, approximation theory, harmonic or wavelet analysis, or dynamical systems. Additionally, every paper relates to a model for natural phenomena in such areas as fluid mechanics, materials science, quantum mechanics, biomathematics, mathematical physics, or to the computational analysis of such phenomena.

The SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis contains research articles on the development and analysis of numerical methods. Topics include the rigorous study of convergence of algorithms, their accuracy, their stability, and their computational complexity. Also included are results in mathematical analysis that contribute to algorithm analysis, and computational results that demonstrate algorithm behavior and applicability.

The SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing contains research articles on numerical methods and techniques for scientific computation. Papers address computational issues relevant to the solution of scientific or engineering problems and include computational results demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.

The SIAM Review consists of five sections, all containing articles of broad interest. Survey and Review features papers with a deliberately integrative and up-to-date perspective on a major topic in applied or computational mathematics or scientific computing. Expository Research Papers contains research papers in applied mathematics and scientific computation that have appeal to a broad audience and feature a high quality of exposition. SIGEST highlights a recent paper from one of SIAM's eleven specialized research journals, chosen on the basis of exceptional interest to the entire SIAM community and revised and condensed as needed for greater accessibility. Education consists primarily of individual modules that are self-contained presentations of specific topics in applied mathematics, scientific computation, or their applications; each module provides the primary material needed to teach a given topic as well as supplementary material. The Book Reviews section contains a featured review that provides an overview of several books in a subject area. Shorter reviews of individual books are also included.

The award-winning WIREs (Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews) series combines some of the most powerful features of encyclopedic reference works and review journals in an innovative online format. They are designed to promote a cross-disciplinary research ethos while maintaining the highest scientific and presentational standards, but should be viewed first and foremost as evolving online databases of cutting-edge reviews.
