Anthropocene

eISSN: 2213-3054

Anthropocene publishes peer-reviewed works addressing the nature, scale, and extent of the influence that people have on Earth. The scope of the journal includes the effects of human activities on landscapes, oceans, the atmosphere, cryosphere, and ecosystems over a range of time and space scales - from global phenomena over geologic eras to single isolated events - including changes to the exchanges, linkages, and feedbacks among the systems.Articles could address how the human influence on Earth may produce a distinct geological record, and how these signals may compare with the great perturbations in Earth's history. Theoretical and empirical contributions linking societal responses to human-induced landscape change are also welcomed. As humans have emerged as a dominant agent of change on Earth's system, the journal serves to focus research findings, discussions, and debates to account explicitly for human interactions with Earth's systems. The aim is to provide a venue toward meeting one of the grand challenges of our time.Anthropocene welcomes the following types of manuscripts:- Original research articles that meet the Aims and Scope of the journal, with typical length of text in the 5000-7000 word range. Research articles may include specific case studies if these studies demonstrate theoretical significance and broad systemic relevance.- Review papers and Prospects that assess the state of knowledge of a particular subfield or topic, that point toward future research needs and directions. These review articles, with a typical length within 8000 words, may include some new data or synthesis of existing data that produce new understanding.- Short communications include commentaries and viewpoints on specific issues, discussions and replies of articles published in the journal, and shorter papers addressing timely topics that are reviewed and published rapidly. The length of these articles should be within 2000-4000 words.More information will be added over the coming weeks. Enquiries should be directed to Dan Lovegrove, Publisher, Geology, Elsevier, UK, d.lovegrove@elsevier.com

Reactive and Functional Polymers

ISSN: 1381-5148eISSN: 1873-166X

The Journal publishes papers dealing with new ideas and developments in the science and technology of polymers with functional groups that provide specific chemical reactivity or physico-chemical behaviour. The scope covers organic and inorganic functional polymers, acting as reagents, catalysts, carriers of protecting groups, templates, ion-exchangers, selective sorbents, chelating agents, supports for enzymes and cells, and the like. It also includes reactive cross-linkable prepolymers, degradable or bioactive polymers, polymer resists, conducting polymers, and film-forming polymers.Contributions have to present thorough molecular and material characterisation data, and may deal with the synthesis of the above polymers or with their applications in organic synthesis, catalysis, water or effluent treatment, separations, recovery, lithography, microelectronics, information storage, energy conversion, diagnostics, drug delivery, coating and encapsulation, and adhesion. The Journal addresses two main audiences: those engaged in the synthesis of new materials and the development of novel techniques, and those concerned with technology and practical applications in the laboratory or plant. The Journal encourages, and serves as a forum for, the dialogue between these two groups.Papers on a broad spectrum of topics are encouraged. Emphasis is on work at the frontiers of science or technology and furthering the interaction between researcher and practical engineer, rather than on details of theory or application. Full-length papers and review articles will be considered. However, authors intending to write a review should contact an Editor first. Uninvited reviews will not be considered. All material submitted must be original, that is it may not have been submitted elsewhere for publication.Lack of originality, insufficient molecular characterisation, poor comparison with the current state of literature and with the authors' own production are, individually, sufficient reasons for rejection.

Tree Physiology

ISSN: 0829-318XeISSN: 1758-4469

Tree Physiology publishes both technical reviews and original research reports on all aspects of physiology of trees, other woody species, and species of arborescent growth forms (a full list of topics can be found in our Instructions to Authors). Tree Physiology is a refereed journal distributed internationally.Tree Physiology was founded in 1986 by Alfred Burdett and Rozanne Poulson of Heron Publishing. Under their management, the journal grew in both size and reputation to become one of the top-ranking journals in the field. Oxford Journals will continue to build on this solid foundation and ensure wider dissemination and further development of Tree Physiology.Scope of the JournalTree Physiology promotes research in a framework of hierarchically organized systems, measuring insight by the ability to link adjacent layers: thus, investigated tree physiology phenomenon should seek mechanistic explanation in finer-scale phenomena as well as seek significance in larger scale phenomena (Passioura 1979). A phenomenon not linked downscale is merely descriptive; an observation not linked upscale, might be trivial. Physiologists often refer qualitatively to processes at finer or coarser scale than the scale of their observation, and studies formally directed at three, or even two adjacent scales are rare. To emphasize the importance of relating mechanisms to coarser scale function, Tree Physiology will highlight papers doing so particularly well as Feature Papers.Tree Physiology welcomes submissions of manuscripts on research of non-tree woody and arborescent species (shrubs, vines, tree ferns, palms, bamboo). It invites submissions on new methods designed to improve estimates of quantities of structural components and flux of matter, energy and information relevant to the structure and the function of these species.Tree Physiology also welcomes those manuscripts on genomics demonstrating a clear link and relevance to tree physiology.Authors who prepared short, hard-hitting manuscripts are encouraged to submit them as Tree Physiology Letters that will be fast tracked through the review process with the help of the Editorial Review Board.
