Optics & Laser Technology aims to provide a vehicle for the publication of a broad range of high quality research and review papers in those fields of scientific and engineering research appertaining to the development and application of the technology of optics and lasers. Perspectives in Plant Ecology, Evolution and Systematics (PPEES) publishes outstanding and thought-provoking articles of general interest to an international readership in the fields of plant ecology, evolution and systematics. Of particular interest are longer, in-depth articles that provide a broad understanding of key topics in the field. PROTEINS : Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics publishes original reports of significant experimental and analytic research in all areas of protein research: structure, function, computation, genetics, and design. The journal encourages reports that present new experimental or computational approaches for interpreting and understanding data from biophysical chemistry, structural studies of proteins and macromolecular assemblies, alterations of protein structure and function engineered through techniques of molecular biology and genetics, functional analyses under physiologic conditions, as well as the interactions of proteins with receptors, nucleic acids, or other specific ligands or substrates. Research in protein and peptide biochemistry directed toward synthesizing or characterizing molecules that simulate aspects of the activity of proteins, or that act as inhibitors of protein function, is also within the scope of PROTEINS. In addition to full-length reports, short communications (usually not more than 4 printed pages) and prediction reports are welcome. Reviews are typically by invitation; authors are encouraged to submit proposed topics for consideration. Proteins is bringing web-based technology to bear to speed and simplify the entire publication process. Proteins now offers online submission and peer review and encourages electronic submission of manuscripts, which expedites the review process. RSC Chemical Biology is a gold open access journal dedicated to publishing and disseminating exceptional, breakthrough research and high-quality reviews at the interface of chemistry and biology. We welcome contributions from across the breadth of the chemical biology field. Given the importance of planning and development issues in tourism, such as optimising the sector's contribution to socio-economic development, sustainability and resource-use planning, capacity planning, strategic infrastructure planning and forecasting, structural activity re-alignments, the implications of advances in information technology and the relationship between globalisation and tourism, this journal focuses on bringing together researchers and practitioners, individuals and organisations interested in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of planning and development. Tourism Planning & Development aims to provide a forum for the publication and dissemination of new and original theoretical and applied research on tourism planning and development issues through fully refereed research papers. At the same time, it also aims to encourage international dialogue through viewpoint articles or shorter pieces designed to stimulate ideas and discussion and/or to present work in progress that has not been developed to a stage suitable for publication as a fully refereed paper. In particular, it seeks to encourage contributions from new researchers and/or work new geographic or socio-cultural settings . Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict (DAC) is a pioneering interdisciplinary journal that publishes original papers and reviews that contribute to understanding and ameliorating conflicts between states and non-state challengers. These conflicts too often lead to violence, sometimes to the extremes of terrorism or genocide. Understanding the trajectory to violence requires examination of conflicts that do not escalate to violence as well as those that do. This means studying individuals, groups, and movements who challenge the state without violence, as well as those who turn to radicalism and terrorism. Similarly, it is necessary to study state agents, agencies, and policy makers who respond to challenge without violence, as well as those who turn to torture, ethnic cleansing and genocide.It follows from this multi-level and dynamic perspective that every social science is welcome in the journal. Scholars from anthropology, communications, criminology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology and sociology are invited to join in a new subculture that includes policy makers, analysts, and officers of police, military and intelligence services, as well as officers of non-governmental organizations and foundations interested in peace and conflict. DAC aims to support an academic-practitioner community that will learn how to prevent and ameliorate violence between states and non-state challengers.The form of contributions is open, and may include interview reports, case histories, survey research, experiments, text analyses, formal modelling, empirical or theoretical reviews, notes identifying new directions of research needed or in progress, and media reviews.Contributions may be between 1,000-5,000 words; acceptance will be based on value per page such that longer contributions must make larger contributions.Special IssuesThe editors will occasionally invite related papers on a special topic, with the aim of publishing these papers as a special issue of the journal. Housing Policy Debate provides a venue for original research on U.S. housing policy. Subjects include affordable housing policy, fair housing policy, land use regulations influencing housing affordability, metropolitan development trends, and linkages among housing policy and energy, environmental, and transportation policy. Housing Policy Debate is published quarterly. Most issues feature a Forum section and an Articles section. The Forum, which highlights a current debate, features a central article and responding comments that represent a range of perspectives. All articles in the Forum and Articles sections undergo a double-blind peer review process. First published in 1982 as Contemporary Policy Issues, Contemporary Economic Policy publishes scholarly economic research and analysis on issues of vital concern to economists, government, business, and other decision makers. Leading western scholars, including three Nobel laureates, are among CEP's authors. The objectives are to communicate results of high quality economic analysis to policymakers, focus high quality research and analysis on current policy issues of widespread concern, increase knowledge among economists of features of the economy key to understanding the impact of policy, and to advance methods of policy analysis. Current Protein & Peptide Science publishes review articles on specific aspects involving proteins, peptides, and interactions between the enzymes, the binding interactions of hormones and their receptors; the properties of transcription factors and other molecules that regulate gene expression; the reactions leading to the immune response; the process of signal transduction; the structure and function of proteins involved in the cytoskeleton and molecular motors; the properties of membrane channels and transporters; and the generation and storage of metabolic energy. Engineering Failure Analysis publishes research papers describing the analysis of engineering failures and related studies.Papers relating to the structure, properties and behaviour of engineering materials are encouraged, particularly those which also involve the detailed application of materials parameters to problems in engineering structures, components and design. In addition to the area of materials engineering, the interacting fields of mechanical, manufacturing, aeronautical, civil, chemical, corrosion and design engineering are considered relevant. Activity should be directed at analysing engineering failures and carrying out research to help reduce the incidences of failures and to extend the operating horizons of engineering materials.

We are entering a new and exciting era of microbiological study and application. Recent advances in the now established disciplines of genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics, together with extensive cooperation between academic and industrial concerns, have brought about an integration of basic and applied microbiology as never before. Microbial Physiology aims to reflect this development by publishing original research papers from all areas of microbiology and biotechnology. It also features written symposia on selected topics, timely reviews, and mini-reviews. Theoretical approaches and descriptions of novel, microbiologically relevant software are also considered. Contributions and ideas from large segments of the scientific community are welcome to make Microbial Physiology a viable, much needed, and up-and-coming forum for current basic and applied microbiological research.

Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy Review publishes papers dealing with both applied and theoretical aspects of extractive and process metallurgy and mineral processing. It emphasizes research germane to specific industrial processes and research that examines economic and environmental issues as well as basic engineering technology. Review papers devoted to ore genesis, properties and uses of minerals, the scientific, engineering and economic aspects of the extraction, separation and purification of minerals and metals, and the post-treatment of mineral processing and extractive treatment of mineral processing and extractive metallurgy effluents are also invited. In addition to regular issues, special issues addressing narrowly focused subjects of regional or topical significance are published when the Editors feel there is sufficient interest among readers.

Modern Rheumatology publishes original papers in English on research pertinent to rheumatology and associated areas such as pathology, physiology, clinical immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, experimental animal models, pharmacology, and orthopedic surgery. Case reports and occasional reviews of topics which may be of wide interest to the readership will be accepted. In addition, concise papers of special scientific importance that represent definitive and original studies will be considered. Letters should be limited to commentaries on previous articles published in Modern Rheumatology and subjects relating to rheumatology and the Japan College of Rheumatology. Rapid Communications should be very short reports of cases or research findings, with no abstract. Other types of articles may be published at the discretion of the Editorial Board. Papers are welcomed from members of the Japan College of Rheumatology and nonmembers alike. Six issues and a supplement are published per year. Papers may be submitted at any time.

New Forests publishes original papers on fundamental and applied aspects of afforestation and reforestation for an international audience of scientists and practitioners. Articles discuss reproduction of trees and forests originating from seed, seedlings or coppice for resource protection, timber production, and agro-forestry. Coverage includes natural and artificial methods of regeneration and all stand structures from even-aged to uneven-aged. Topics include silviculture, plant physiology, genetics, biotechnology, ecology, economics, protection, and management of all stages of afforestation and reforestation. Research papers and reviews are reviewed by a coordinating editor and two reviewers.
